  • Maria Sharapova Forehand Slow Motion - WTA Tennis Forehand Technique
Maria Sharapova WTA Forehand is one of the smoothest and most powerful in the world. She uses great body momentum and a flat contact to generate a clean strike on the ball which allows here to hit many winners with a low trajectory over the net.
Maria Sharapova retired this week as she struggled to regain form following her drug ban which saw her sidelined from the game for almost two years. Sharapova retirement will no doubt send shockwaves around the tennis community and the former WTA World No.1 will be missed. Her forehand technique will be taught to junior WTA players for many years to follow.
Who has a better forehand Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams?

With time, Serena added much more spin to her forehand, making it versatile and with more margin.
Sharapova's forehand, on the other hand, till the end of her career was that classic flat slap women used to do. Interesting that nowadays, we see a lot of WTA players using a more compact swing, adding much more spin to their games - just look at Barty, Muchova, Brady, Kasatkina, Sakkari, etc.
And more interesting is the fact that Sharapova's game, so flat and with little variety, has won her two French Open titles. This shows us how great she was!

@@davidvscalvim2836 great comment, thank you. A very famous UK coach told me this February that I should just look at how many tournaments are played on clay and how many on hard to decide that hitting flat is the way to go. Landsdorp (Sharapova’s coach) went as far as saying that coaches doom their students to failure a few years before they even attain maturity by teaching them “the academy lift” as he termed it. Sharapova’s Grand Slam titles go some way to support that view. Does Serena hit mostly topspin?

      To blunt upfront:
Sharapova lost to her about 17 TIMES before she retired.
      TF do you think?

So flat, so pure...still do no not understand why most of the girls can not copy atp forehand and add wrist snap and pronation for top spin and more control

I guess her true talent without her "juice" was revealed. Had she not taken it she would have had a far greater legacy than what's left behind. Not hating
