I can’t believe more people don’t talk about how good Serena’s serve was here tonight. She was hitting 124+ mph on BOTH her flat serves down the T and out wide. Her slice serves were also 110+ and some got close to 120 mph too. I think they even said her serves here were the same speed as in the men’s final, and god knows she has better placement and disguise than theirs (bar fed)

Even though it's a one sided rivalry their matches are really watchable as they try to bring out their best to the court. They are so intense you can feel it just by watching it for 5 minutes. Serena was serving amazing too.

In order to have a rivalry, the wins and losses should be relatively close. With that definition, it is dubious that this was a rivalry. And, it was at best, a competition with a loop sided advantage to Serena. Yet, it was fun to watch and very entertaining except all the screaming and grunting. 😆

There is no doubt Serena is better and I would dare to say the best in history so far. Sharapova was great, excellent player. But Serena is Serena.
Is it ignorant to ignore that Serena is in 3rd place on number of weeks ranked #1? She is third behind Graf-377 weeks, Navratilova- 332, Williams, 319. And why does it matter? Because Serena has been playing a selective schedule focused on GS or matches preparing for GS. She is not a grinder like everyone else. She wants to only win GS. She skips matches to avoid injury and burn out while everyone else does the grind. Serena goes into a match rested, fresh and never plays injured. Everyone else is grinding and playing on bad legs, bad wrist, aches and pains. It's kind of like being in the non open era isn't it? Grabbing GS titles at the expense of the rest of the league playing fair. Oh well, melanin. She will never be GOAT. She will have to settle for little goat, of her era. Margaret has 64 total GS. Serena has a measly 40 total GS. Serena is not a complete player, avoiding doubles while Margaret played all three at the tournaments, singles, doubles, mixed doubles. Imagine the stamina? And Margaret played through 4 pregnancies. Serena? 1. Serena is little goat. Margaret is GOAT.
To day I learnt that the GOATs are always hated. MJ, Mohammad Ali, Tom Brady and now Serena. She has changed the sport for the better.
Although she Needs 1 or 2 majors to make it official.

She’s very good at what she’s good at, unfortunately she’s just incredibly limited. Serena’s much better technically overall - her serve is much better, her forehand technique is better, her net play is better and her movement is much better. The only areas I’d possibly give it to Maria is backhand maybe, but it’s close - both have very strong backhands but Maria has a bit more reach on hers and she’s naturally a lefty as well so I’d probably say Maria just edged it. I will say though, I do think Maria beats Serena on mental toughness overall (despite their head to head) Serena has admitted she’s lost matches she shouldn’t have due to her getting angry or upset and Maria’s like a damn Drill Sergeant 😂 and she continues giving 100% no matter what the scoreline is. 🙌🏻
Serena has the better and more stable backhand and her mental toughness is so much better, there is no comparison. Sharapova let someone beat her 20 times in a row; I can't think of a greater sign of mental weakness than that. She knew she was beaten every time she walked on court. Serena would never. Henin had Serena's number all of 2007 and in 2010 when Serena had her chance to beat her in a final and establish her superiority once and for all, she took it.
Serena is just better at every single facet of the game.

No I disagree, maybe in their head to head but overall Sharapova tougher, Serena’s lost quite a few matches where she got upset, angry or half gave up. Maria never did, if she lost it was because she was simply outplayed. Maria’s issue beating Serena was predominantly a physical one - Serena is better at almost everything, it’s not to do with Sharapova having weak mentality. You need to learn to be rational and objective.

Suddenly in January they released a substance list, some 30-40 page pdf that her team didn't read fully. She was not using any performance enhancing drugs to be clear. A substance that was suddenly made illegal by ATP without proper clarity or communication. She did her time without protest.

It's interesting how the GOAT argument on the men's side is getting more intense while on the women's side, just about everyone knows who takes the title.
Whether you like Serena or not. You've got to admit she's the greatest. She has a stable winning record against most of her rivals. And in terms of statistics and world records, she shatters most of the WTA.
She's the only player you can say would beat any other player in the entire league (in her prime). You can't really say that about any player in the ATP.
As much as I'm a huge fan of hers, it's kinda dumb to say she could win comfortably against the strongest ATP players (Roger, Novak, Rafa) in their prime. But that's an entirely different game.
She's dominated the womens' sport just as much as any player has dominated any sport in history. That, in my opinion, makes her the ultimate GOAT.
The only people who disagree are racist or ignorant. She has not only dominated and changed the sport, but she has had to overcome so much throughout her career. She had to work so hard to even be able to play at the pro level, but she has had to work harder than any other pro because she is a black woman. While she may not be able to physically beat a man in tennis, I definitely think she has had better dominance in tennis than any other man has, considering everything she has dealt with as well as all of her credentials. I love her!

one of my fav Serena matches, Maria came at her just like old days, her body was against her, but she kept coming back, every error was followed by an aggressive point, she was on it, she wasn't gonna let the devil win today, not on her watch, so she did what she always does, she fought with everything she had.
