It was Queens University over here in Ontario! I got a chance to use the scent last summer in some super clear water and it was amazing to see how the fish reacted to the baits with the American baitworks scent vs without! So far its been good to me😁
Bait fuel was developed at Queens University right here in my hometown of Kingston Ontario Canada. Queens Biology department works very closely with our local tournament scene here that runs on Lake Ontario and The St Lawrence River. So it's been proven on our big clear water pressured smallmouth to work extremely well. I truly believe it's gonna be the game changer of the 2022 season.
I've been a huge fan of roboworm since 2006, when my buddies' dad brought them to Wisconsin from Arizona. I caught more bass on margarita mutilator than any other soft plastic. Still my go-to neko rig.
They are super popular in az. :) glad you got to use something uncommon in your area. Congrats on the fish you landed with them. They are an amazing soft plastic. If you ever find a brand called arizona custom baits try them as well.
Would love to see a bank angler video, baits for bank anglers, rods for bank anglers, walk the dog tips for bank anglers. Just think it’d be nice to see bank anglers shown some love.
It was so awesome to see you pull out the Topspin. If you all haven't tried it, it works incredibly well and the slightest change from an underspin makes those fish come unglued! Also a HUGE fan of the BaitFuel. Thanks for the support!!!
I have ALWAYS been a fan of Berkley Powerbait. IMO scent infused baits are more effective than add-on scents because scent needs to be designed to disperse in water, but that very fact means the scent won't stay on a soft plastic for long. If the scent actually stays on the soft plastic cast after cast then how well is that scent dispersing???
thank you for showing the new super shallow crankbait. i do a lot of pond fishing with my kids and like to throw cranks. but to find good ones that will stay between 1 and 3 feet are very few and far between. thank you again for showing that bait and will be picking a couple up. keep up the great work and the amazing videos. would love to see you guys do a video fishing extremely shallow and how you go about it.
Power Team Lures Hog Tonic. Squirt it into the bag. It absorbs into the material. I've caught 15 fish on a dropshot worm and could still smell it, and it's STRONG.
Based off your recommendation I bought a bottle of Bait Fuel.....and first time I used it I had one of the BEST days on the water that I have ever had....Water temp was about 60° on an overcast day so maybe I just got lucky but the Bait Fuel definitly didn't hurt!!! Will keep you updated over the next couple weeks...
Loved the new 1ST GEN Top Spin. The underspin work great on the clear water of the Great Lakes and I will be trying these out very soon on St Clair, as soon as they arrive.
Super fun video Matt! I had bags and bags of the sculpins in most colors that I purchased as a tourney angler in 2003-2007 and they were money in the clear lakes of San Diego and still are in your old NorCal haunts. You should have called me for some! 🤣. I am just now starting to run low so great timing by Roboworm. Also, the overspin is very similar to the old SK Rocket Shad which my competitors used to tease me about but I still catch a ton of bass on those. Especially bumping them through flooded willows and brush. Thanks again, great video.
Roboworm on drop shot is no joke in the north, I caught a fish almost every cast even pickeral compared to the other 3 guys on my boat using a wacky rig, chatter bait, and regular drop shot worms and they had trouble even getting a bite.
I didn't know a "cover shot" was already a thing. I've been doing that for a long time with my use of a drop shot while bank fishing. It helps a ton to prevent snags when using it from the bank. For hooks I've been using a thicker bait hook from H2O Express (Academy's brand). It's worked great for me, my go-to for bank fishing.
If you like that Madbob you'd like the 6th Sense Munch 40 as well. Shallow diver, smaller profile, wide wobble. A bit of a slow roll retrieve with some good thump.
I switched over to the seaguar basix not long ago and I really like it! Along with Matt I noticed the diameter size but really can't complain with the price point
(The OWNER HAYMAKER)... I was waiting on you to talk about the the fluorocarbon, and then you started talking about the HAYMAKER hook!!! TODD CASTLEDINE did a video on that hook and he broke it down literally by spec.. and it just made so much sense before he ever played any footage of him catching fish with it, when those fish bite whatever bait you have on that hook, THEY get it deep and they get it good.. that hook penetrates in the side of their mouth, the roof of their mouth, the corners so perfectly and so deep that they can't shake it.. the dude literally hooked like a six or seven pounder and just let it play just to see if it would shake the hook and it couldn't do it. I mean he was sitting there like "watch this this fish, he cannot shake this hook, I'm going to sit here as long as it takes and he cannot shake it" !!! And when he pulled it out of the water it's a 6 pounder and the hook is in the corner of its mouth about an inch down with the best penetration and so much hook hanging out because of the way they designed it.. there was a lot of intake from consumer to product on that hook and they took everybody's ideas and thoughts, sat down at the drawing board and Incorporated everybody's input into one hook and dude they hit a HOME RUN.. I mean they hit it over the fence out of the parking lot and into the next stadium!!! I literally was waiting on you guys to drop a video on that fluorocarbon and on THAT hook and you did it all in one video.. and my mouth is salivating because I cannot wait to order a handful of it.. I understand the lime diameter size and I've been fishing long enough to understand what you mean by diameter with pound test.. and I usually buy the big spools of the red label anyway just because I just don't care for the yellow, it really does not make that much difference to me.. besides my wallet.. but I bought one box of 15 lb test of that line and spooled it on to one of my light flipping rods and haven't even used it yet because I just wanted to see what everybody's opinion was and now I'm fixing to go out and lay the wood down and test it myself... but as far as it laying down on the spool like mono and it's so smooth and it doesn't come off the rod loopy like a lot of stiff fluorocarbon does, they literally hit that one out of the park too.... Awesome awesome video.. but duh, what do I take you for right? You know you guys bring so much value to the fishing community for all the hard work that you guys put into your videos, and I think it's so underrated that you guys don't even understand the appreciation that guys like me have for guys like you that link everything from A to Z.. this is where you can get it, this is where it's at, this is how much it cost, this is what I think about it.. no biased opinions, honest from the word GO... Great great video, thank you again for everything you guys do, it's getting warmer, so you know the weekend warriors are coming, lol, you guys STAY SAFE, best to the FAMILY and to TIM AND HIS and TIGHT LINES BOYS✌️✌️✌️✌️
I've been running the 15lb BASIX for a bit now, really pleased with it. I normally run Sniper (on your suggestion initially) and while I wouldn't say it's as nice to work with, it's not bad at all. When you figure in the price difference... A lot of the competing lines are equal in diameter so I don't really hold that against it. I'm using it on my moving bait stuff for now, but didn't feel that it was as sensitive as the Sniper or InvisX. On moving stuff that didn't matter much so I'll probably keep using it and save the expensive stuff for more tricky strike detection. My main concern was break offs and I haven't had any despite some situations where it would have been warranted. *knocks on wood* so far so good.
Scent is a real thing. I've noticed over the last few years not only does it get a few more bites day to day but I notice short strikes become more aggressive & the fish returning seconds later to smoke it again. Its a thing I've watched it happen. Craw is one of my favorites.
I throw a lot a fluorocarbon line, I have tried a lot, I love all seagur lines , I use all brands, but the basix is Def a good quality line , and cheap is awesome
These are some of my favorites to watch!! Thanks Matt and Tim for testing all this stuff out for us!!! I'm sure TW Dark Junebug will be sold out in no time!!! Lol! LOVE the budget line thrown in the mix!! The bank fisherman really appreciates when you guys are lookin out for us!!! Just put in an order for X-Zone craws and 2 S Waver 168s because every single swimbait video I hear this one talked about! Tackle Warehouse is almost banned in my house! Thanks guys!!
IMO most types of scent out there aren't exactly to attract fish, but to cover up our own "human" smell on the bait. So far, the only ones that target fish directly are Berkley's PowerBait/MaxScent stuff and this.
, we have finally reached the outer limits of the Twilight Zone.. This is not science but a marketing gimmick. And for only $10 a bottle.. Just for the record I have purchased many of the products in this video and love the fact that you try To field test these products for us.
Great video. Passing on all of this information is appreciated. As a bank angler you can’t beat seaguar basix. I agree you have to pay attention to the line diameter in certain applications, specifically cranking / jerkbaits. Crank / jerkbaits are the only baits I still buy sunline or p-line for now. I’ve switched my remaining 4 reels over to basix. it’s a nice line for learning new casting techniques and I’ve already found it on sale for $7.
Lol ... I'm a Tactical junkie as well !!! But don't have the money so I use 2nd hand lures or whatever I find outside on the ground or whatever I pull in from another's line or when I get stuff on sale from the store ! Don't feel sorry for me bc I do my best and still try to catch em lol . Love all your videos too .... their great ! Keep them up brother !
lol top spin I've been making for about a year now. I got the Yo-Zuri 3DB Knuckle bait on sale for like $2 each while ago. some colors get follows but never bites. so I took off the ball and added a blade and now they get bites.
The bait fuel scent has definitely changed my mind on scents. I have noticed fishing different baits that when using the scent the fish hit the bait harder and held on longer. Makes no sense to me cause it has no smell and isn’t oil based. It really works.
I love that seagur basix line I can actually afford to change it out like I should and I got my first dirty 30 pound five bass on the Delta two days ago on that line I trust it I had a six pounder get into my trolling motor and hit it right at the boat and just drove straight for it and I was able to pull it out of the water and get it off without breaking my line
I use to fish quite a bit back in the 70's and 80's but the horse business kind of took away all of my free time, however, There wasn't all the gear back than as there is now but I ran into an elderly bass fisherman that was on vacation fishing on a small lake in Minnesota that I happened to be at and we became friends while he was there. Nobody used scents or even heard about scents but he told me that the bass can smell me on the purple worm that I was using and could also smell me on the line. Well, that made sense to me as I also used to hunt whitetail deer and you definitly know that they can smell you. Anyway, he told me to use this anise oil on my hands when I put a worm on my hook so as not to leave any of my scent on the worm. My scientific experiment was to go fishing with two of my buddies and not tell them about what I was doing and I would catch 6 bass to everyone of theirs. Now I am retiring from the horses and bought a boat to start fishing again (I am 75 years old) which means I have to start over with all the rods and tackle since its been over 40 years since I was on the water, and I got to tell you, going into Bass Pro Shop is crazy for me, I don't know where the H to start. I can't believe all the scents that are out there now and I didn't even see any anise oil. I am suppose to be getting my Ranger RT178 the first of June and I will keep you informed if I find any anise oil to see if it still works. I don't know why it wouldn't. By the way, I have been watching you channel since I got back into this fishing thing and I really enjoy yours. Thank you for doing this.
Definitely a few things caught my eye. TW order is calling to me. We have some old Robo Sculpins still from like 15 plus years ago. Great bait glad to see it’s back. We use smelly jelly, I’ll have to see how it compares to BaitFuel. 😂
For me I think scent has a time and a place. Sometimes I think no scent will cause a fish not to bite, and other times too much scent will also steer fish away. The same way not enough flash can make a fish not interested and too much flash may make a fish flee
Hey Matt! Love the vids! The tips and tricks are normally spot on! I have the trouble of timing what baits you are recommending for a certain time of year being up here in the Northeast. I'm in Southeastern Massachusetts. I've found that we are a month to a month and a half behind you guys down south. Any advice as to timelines to really pinpoint what your recommending down there to uphere? Thanks!
That Basix fluro I like. I like it up to 15 pound test. The 20 is just too thick. It's not Invisx, or abrasx, but it is definitely great line for the price. I'm running it now. I have had some issue with the 6 pound on leaders fraying really bad. Way up my line.
I've been hearing good things about Smelly Jelly, which is a bait scent with the consistency of Vaseline so I doesn't come off. I haven't tried it yet, but I just ordered some (not really expensive at all, which was surprising) and when it gets here I'm going to give it a thorough test.
I feel like there should’ve been an explosion in the background and a bald eagle holding a bass flying over head when he said “we take a very tactical approach to fishing, THUS THE NAME..”
I used that Seaguar. It caught my eye. 10 bucks. Why not? It frays way too easy. The first couple cast it’s pretty wild. For cheap line IMO Vanish is unbeatable at the price. I use Assassin when I can.
Great video, I certainly hope you guys are being well compensated by TW or Product manufacturers. Great common sense products. Tackle junkies like myself are going broke watching your videos. LOL Glad I am retired and don't have to work, more time to watch TB.
Great video thank you.... I also like a EWG hook for flipping but most of the time i miss the fish because the bait slides down the hook. Any suggestions?
Mustad ultra bite was incredible but is no longer imported from Europe. It was incredible but it was unholy when it came to smell. It did things no other scent would do. It was science based and incredible.
man I wish we could get that bait fuel out here in Japan. our bass eat sculpin too btw so its fairly universal globally I think. seaguar is made by kureha the guys who first came up with FC and they make most of other brands FC OEM so I go with them for all my FC needs.
Hey Matt I'm looking for a shimano reel to put on my new dobyns 745. Any recommendations for a good flipping and pitching reel? Appreciate the help im a big fan!
Im surprised you haven’t talked about the TN Skull Shell yet. Those Mushbobs are dope, the MR is good to. It does great on rocks, i love that roundish square bill design Jackall did. They hit a home run on this one! Are you guys on with American Baitworks?
The Seaguar Basix line frays REALLY easily. Do not flip with this line or fish in any scenario where line fray is a possibility because the line will fray and you will lose fish. I rigged up the 20lb to flip light light light cover and lost a 5 lber. Re-tied, fished for about 5 more minutes and then casted my bait off. For fluoro I've stuck to Red Label and Abrasix (for heavier stuff) and never had a single issue. Had two issues with the Basix line within a couple of hours. I would not recommend saving a few bucks on this line at all. I really wanted it to be a great product because I pay a fortune on line a re-spool my rods frequently, but it's just not worth potentially losing your fish of a lifetime for a few $$$. Could be good for jerkbaits, open water cranking, or fishing a swimbait to a school of fish. Really anything where fraying is not a possibility.
Good stuff Matt. As you were talking about the new Legend Series rod for cranking, I got to wondering. Have you tried the new Lew’s XD Series rods? I bought the 10XD rod to throw the 10XD but I haven’t been on a boat were I can test it out yet.
It was Queens University over here in Ontario! I got a chance to use the scent last summer in some super clear water and it was amazing to see how the fish reacted to the baits with the American baitworks scent vs without! So far its been good to me😁
I seen your video that you did it a few months back
Bait fuel was developed at Queens University right here in my hometown of Kingston Ontario Canada. Queens Biology department works very closely with our local tournament scene here that runs on Lake Ontario and The St Lawrence River. So it's been proven on our big clear water pressured smallmouth to work extremely well. I truly believe it's gonna be the game changer of the 2022 season.
Yessss! As a fellow tackle junky myself, I love these videos.
Matt I could watch and listen to you all day, your the best.
Ahh, hush about the Roboworm Sculpins! [Morning Dawn, Aarons Magic +Red Flk]
I used them forever ago and am really glad to see them offered again!
That Top Spin looked really good in the water! Kinda weedless too!
You just nailed another great video.
Check out the video where Edwin Evers talks to the guy who works for power bait
We agree...NetBait BaitFuel infused baits will be shipping to stores VERY soon.
You are correct over Tim, wide gap for flipping over straight shank!
IMO garlic scent, like the scent infused in Chompers skirted double tail grubs, makes a BIG difference.
Maybe early on?
Facts
Man this was fire Matt!! That haymaker is exactly what I wished for and everything else was just plain awesome!
Impressive reviews. Thank you for discovering these gems. It gave me an adrenaline rush. Especially the crank bait.
I love the focus on a "scientific approach" and not just jumping on hype trends. Thanks TB :)
JJ's Magic is legit magic scent and maxscent is something special too
Great break down on all this stuff 👌 Thanks for sharing 🎣
That Aftco backpack..heck yeah!..been waiting for something like that..thank for showing us that one Matt..
thank you for showing the new super shallow crankbait. i do a lot of pond fishing with my kids and like to throw cranks. but to find good ones that will stay between 1 and 3 feet are very few and far between. thank you again for showing that bait and will be picking a couple up. keep up the great work and the amazing videos. would love to see you guys do a video fishing extremely shallow and how you go about it.
I still have bags of the original sculpin. Glad they’re back. Works awesome as a dropshot bait and on a darter head
It’s a very common go-to when it gets tough
I didn't know a "cover shot" was already a thing. I've been doing that for a long time with my use of a drop shot while bank fishing. It helps a ton to prevent snags when using it from the bank. For hooks I've been using a thicker bait hook from H2O Express (Academy's brand). It's worked great for me, my go-to for bank fishing.
The sculpin rigged upside down works amazing for a spinnerbait trailer
And chatterbaits when it gets used up
If you like that Madbob you'd like the 6th Sense Munch 40 as well. Shallow diver, smaller profile, wide wobble. A bit of a slow roll retrieve with some good thump.
We have them. 👍🏼 It's a bit wider wobble than I had in mind but we're experimenting with them.
I switched over to the seaguar basix not long ago and I really like it! Along with Matt I noticed the diameter size but really can't complain with the price point
Been slaying on a shakeyhead recently, Roboworm and the fact I just started using scent just took it to another level
I'd love to see you guys review some of the 6th Sense rods.

Love and hate these videos. By the end of the video I already have a cart full at TW. Thanks Matt lol. Great video as usual.
Love these types of videos!
Thanks for another great video

The spotted bass on lanier are loving it
Matt, As usual thanks for the in depth review. Guess I will finally have to try the R-Worm!
Baitfuel! I have some on my boat now. We will see!
I throw a lot a fluorocarbon line, I have tried a lot, I love all seagur lines , I use all brands, but the basix is Def a good quality line , and cheap is awesome
The 13 fishing scamp has been my shallow running crankbait of choice. Great components out of the pack and the rattles on it are crazy loud.
These are my favorite vids!
Great work, thanks guys!

72 year’s old and every video I watch I learn something new.
😂😂😂😂 ur a fresher with old age
starting my work day with you
IMO most types of scent out there aren't exactly to attract fish, but to cover up our own "human" smell on the bait. So far, the only ones that target fish directly are Berkley's PowerBait/MaxScent stuff and this.
That’s the whole point behind bait fuel. Science

I wish roboworm would bring back the EZ- SHAD. Absolutely loved that bait.
The only scent i ever use is Bang crawfish and Bang shad scent.
Been looking at those mush bobs since they came but haven’t got them yet but you convinced me
Those sculpin look a lot like Wyandotte Worms people jig up here for walleye (typically on 1oz ball jig in rivers).
Geecrack scent rocks and their baits come JUICY in the pack
American baitworks is right behind my house, I’m excited to try bait fuel out myself!
lol top spin I've been making for about a year now.
Great video. Thank you for your dedication to the gear guys! Can you guys do a review on the dobyns maverick series of rods??
Tim you left out the braid cutter behind you. The Cuba3 dollar great little cutter. Bassmd
“Tacticalllllll Basssssin” lmao every time I gotta say it with you. Haha
I really want to see a float and fly vid this winter on Dale
I have never seen you do a video on Berkeley baits .
Top 3 tackle you wished they bring back are:
1. Roboworm Sculpin
2. Roboworn EZ Shad
3. ?
What’s the 3rd one?
Yes!!
Jackall Aska is my #1 wish they’d bring back bait , I’m down to 2 lol 😂
And i love them in shallow water
Agreed! For the record Aska 50s are still in stock... bit.ly/2UasX1U

Fishing Lyn has been my go to flouro.
Definitely a few things caught my eye. TW order is calling to me. We have some old Robo Sculpins still from like 15 plus years ago. Great bait glad to see it’s back. We use smelly jelly, I’ll have to see how it compares to BaitFuel. 😂
yall should take a look at producto lures tournament craw and producer worm the underwater action is amazing
Could you do a video strictly on sense and dies and how you use them around the country? tight lines👊
The best hook up out here in California has been making the top spin on the Delta for a couple years now I figured they had a patent on it
For me I think scent has a time and a place.
Thanks!
All good stuff...EVERYTIME I watch one of your videos I'm buying a new lure...
That top spin concept has been around forever , strike king has one and TW has had a couple on their site for a couple years now
That Basix fluro I like.
3X Craw, and regular Bass Feast is the only two you need.
It works
Bass Feast is amazing, especially where it hasn't been used a ton
i swear by bass feast, i put it on every bait i can, chatterbaits, swimbaits, worms, creature baits, jigs, the list goes on and on
I feel like there should’ve been an explosion in the background and a bald eagle holding a bass flying over head when he said “we take a very tactical approach to fishing, THUS THE NAME..”
Oxblood sculpins sold out at tackle warehouse so fast lol
That top spin, haymaker, and bait fuel are gonna get a ton of my money lol
I used that Seaguar. It caught my eye. 10 bucks. Why not? It frays way too easy. The first couple cast it’s pretty wild. For cheap line IMO Vanish is unbeatable at the price. I use Assassin when I can.
Great video, I certainly hope you guys are being well compensated by TW or Product manufacturers. Great common sense products. Tackle junkies like myself are going broke watching your videos. LOL Glad I am retired and don't have to work, more time to watch TB.
Great information ++
The Topspin reminds of the old Beetle Spin.
Great video thank you.... I also like a EWG hook for flipping but most of the time i miss the fish because the bait slides down the hook. Any suggestions?
Good stuff
Mustad ultra bite was incredible but is no longer imported from Europe. It was incredible but it was unholy when it came to smell. It did things no other scent would do. It was science based and incredible.
Agreed I had this. Caught fishes!
Let's sniff some more out!
man I wish we could get that bait fuel out here in Japan.
our bass eat sculpin too btw so its fairly universal globally I think.
seaguar is made by kureha the guys who first came up with FC and they make most of other brands FC OEM so I go with them for all my FC needs.
Hey Matt I'm looking for a shimano reel to put on my new dobyns 745. Any recommendations for a good flipping and pitching reel? Appreciate the help im a big fan!
With that line is the thickness what will make the bait dive deeper or shallower?
Shallower
Roboworm Sculpins = lighter wallet and heavier limit
Good stuff Matt. As you were talking about the new Legend Series rod for cranking, I got to wondering. Have you tried the new Lew’s XD Series rods? I bought the 10XD rod to throw the 10XD but I haven’t been on a boat were I can test it out yet.
