    Let me take you along to Amsterdam Airport, Schiphol (EHAM). A cockpit view landing in a Boeing 737-800 (Boeing 737NG) on ‘the polderbaan’, runway 18R. The video shows what it's like to fly a standard ILS approach in a Boeing 737-800. Interesting facts, approach charts and actual call-outs and Boeing procedures were added to provide a sense of everything that is going on inside the cockpit during landing. Let me know what you think of this video guys! BOEING 737 800 LANDING Amsterdam Airport 18R | Cockpit View | Life Of An Airline Pilot

    Michelle, another great video! A couple of points:
    1. Somehow this video felt even more immersing (better!) than previous landing videos. Maybe it's the cameras' locations and switching between them.
    2. It's surprising how shallow is EHAM descent. You stayed at 5000/4000 feet for miles!
    3. You need a new aircraft, the way the top of dashboard was moving at landing made it look like a WW1 plane :)

    You always produce nice and educational videos, very useful for a flightsim addict like me. I did about 1,500 roundtrips, working in a global function. Most impressive landings in real plane: Florence (maiden flight Sabena Embraer) by the mountain side; Kai Tak (now closed) on very windy day and hard landing; Quebec with a KLM MD12 (medical emergency landing November 2001); Aspen during snow; many LCY landings. Preferred airports for flightsim: Innsbruck; Sion; Serajevo; Salzburg from the South; Nice; Zurich

    I am sure there are rules and regulations working for an airline, but one thing I love, when I watch more General Aviation youtubers, is they almost always have full ATC recorded. So the viewers hear the pilots communicating with each other as well as any ATC communications. I understand if it is not possible, but if there was any way to include those, it would make these even more special. Even the ones that include ATC are usually not monitoring busy Bravo Airspaces, as GA flights are usually routed around them, so it would be great just to hear all the other chatter you are dealing with as you land, at a large airport, as I try to follow along as well.

    • @jpdj2715
      @jpdj2715 Год назад +4

      @@BillAnt - as she takes the plane to Pier D, this must be a passenger flight. Pure cargo planes go elsewhere on this airport, not to passenger terminals afaik.
      Not making announcements must have fallen into the editing out cracks. I Guess she was co-pilot here and the other person may have made the announcements.
      I was wondering the same thing about the dash vibration. Seems to me this will wear out cable connectors in the dash faster than desired - but it my be catered for in the design and component selection (that said, considering how Boeing cut corners in recent years, I feel this needs very good monitoring from the airline's maintenance dept.)

    We didn't have doppler to warn us coming into Livermore at this time. I was flying with mybuddy in his Cessna 310 after an annual. I was at 810 AGL and the wind gusts were unbelievable. Suddenly, it was like a giant hand pushed the nose of the Cessna down hard. I had to fight the instinct to pull back on the stick because I was coming in without power. I would have stalled. I pushed the control yoke down slightly and made the landing. He and I both kissed the ground that day as we exited the aircraft! That landing had to be a little scary in gusts like that!

    A picture of calm competence! As a retired RAF transport pilot I rarely watch aviation videos nowadays but occasionally I need a fix and this did it for me. Great camera angles. The only additional thing I would have liked to see was the stand entry guidance system. This was hidden by a windscreen pillar. It was very helpful to include views of the STARS and the taxiway layout. I have often flown in and out of Schiphol but never as an operating pilot.
    My daughter flew for 13 years as first officer for Flybe until shortly before that airline's demise then for about 18 months as first officer with BA on B747s before being made redundant because of the effects of the pandemic. She then worked briefly on the shop floor of a supermarket before returning to BA on the ground in the LHR cargo department. She has now just been offered a position as B747 first officer with Longtail cargo airlines and thus avoids having to join the BA low cost operation planned to start at LGW which would have been for a minimum of 5 years during which time she would not have been eligible to apply for another BA long haul fleet at LHR which is what she now hopes to do in due course. I am happy for you that you apparently managed to avoid the dreaded Covid redundancy epidemic.

    I really love your videos, thx for making them available. As a non pilot who loves aviation, I really appreciate watching them! Question- are there limitations or certain policies you must follow to film inside the cockpit? For example, do you need permission from your airline or regulators? Do they require seeing video before made public? Do your co pilots need to sign off? Or do you just sneak your camera into the cockpit 😉. Thanks for all you do.

    I was surprised to learn how much of approach is done by looking at instruments and only occasional glance through the window. Great video. I would love to see SFO approach (love that last moment when runway all of the sudden appears after long approach over the water). For European approaches, please consider filming approach to MUC, with the Alps on the horizon. Admire your work and sharing it on YT, please carry on!

    that looked like a really smooth landing :)
    my compliments.
    just had a less smooth one yesterday in almost zero visibillity.
    sat right behind the wing and were on final aprouch with flaps down and gear out when all of a sudden the engines powered back up and gear and flaps retracted.
    so they flew us around once and i guess they decided to land us on instruments.
    deff. my first experience of this kind, and i did put a hand to the seat in front of me :-D
    but a minute later we were taxying the runway :)

      After hearing the various pilots on RUclips talk about go-arounds and the reasons for them, it's comforting to know that if the plane I'm in does a go-around, it's because the pilots are putting everybody's safety first by not landing unless they are 100% sure about it.

    Loved this video. By chance I flew exactly that approach in ms flight simulator last week. It's a long taxi to the gate from there. Wish I could have seen the docking guidance better but I'm not sure where the camera would need to be to get the pilots view
    It must be hard swapping seats and learning to fly with the other hand.

I am wondering what happened to the air traffic chatter and other communications? Was it quiet on that particular flight? Do you n your other colleagues chat n share stories in flight? I think it would be an awesome idea to include that in your videos. Just my humble thoughts. 😊 Wonderful video over all. Please keep them coming. 😊😊😊

    The caption about the automatic adjustment of the trim wheels had me thinking: Is there any health and safety concern related to those trim wheels adjusting spontaneously, like getting your fingers jammed/pinched next to them or something like that? And then I wondered more broadly: What health and safety concerns are there for pilots when you exclude everything that deals with keeping the plane safe? That could be a video :-)

    • @DutchPilotGirl
      @DutchPilotGirl  2 года назад +11

      It's definitely something we have to be aware of. Many pilots, me included, bumped their knees into these trim wheels at least once!
