I used to play my clarinet in a music ministry at a church. They always waited until the congregation was there to do any sound check, etc. I was supposed to play a solo, but the church organist decided to improvise the music and I was lost and stopped playing with the spotlight still on me. I have a degree in music and couldn't overlook the unprofessionalism and left. They tried to justify it by saying it is not a professional performance. I told them that is no excuse for unprofessional behavior. That church organist eventually got fired.
There is a time and a place for everything. During service, in front of the congregation, is not the place or time to humiliate the choir and current leader by telling them you do not feel their singing is up to par. Wisdom would say do this in private, during a rehearsal, and do it in love. Seems like people will say amen to everything a pastor says these days.
This is probably the “nth” time he has mentioned it on the Low. (Probably even in his sermons, too.) Maybe he thought it was time for a more Direct Approach.
He was telling the truth!! Sometimes the people with the worst voice loves to lead most of the songs, because people are afraid to offend them. But that Pastor should be commended for being honest! Because God wants the person with the skill and anointing to sing, not the untalented and bold!
Sometimes OPEN rebuke is what’s needed, according to the Bible. If he has warned them on previous occasions, then biblically, as a Pastor, he’s obligated to tell them openly if they have previously ignored his reprimands!! So until we know all the circumstances, we can’t say he was wrong!!
Yea that should've been said in rehearsal not embarrassing the choir even though they do sound very bad. Not just one person the entire choir and the pianist.
Oh please. That congregation has probably been sick of this, and been “biting their tongues” (and Gossiping about it) for a Minute, now. They probably slipped him an extra “Love Gift” that day.
It is a reoccurring motif in music ministry. Someone is always chosen by leadership to direct a chorus but have absolutely no training. As to music, one mustn't make choices based upon a person's enthusiasm. Neither is something from on high going to fall and provide one with supernatural enablement. Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm.
Exactly..even the person playing the piano was off just playing random stuff smh... if the entire choir is sounding like this then that's 100% a lack of teaching and vocal training. A sincere heart means nothing with teaching and growth.. They kinda remind me of the nuns who were on the choir on Sister Act. They were absolute trash until Deloris (whoopi goldberg) came in.
@rachelmm05 There are alot of unknowns here; one being who placed the individual who heads this chorus, was there an interview to differentiate the " can " and the " cannots ", how much prep time, who put leadership in place ?
THIS TIME... THE PASTOR SHOULD STAND HIS GROUND... AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A SENIORS CHOIR... THE CHOIR DIRECTOR AND CHOIR ASKED FOR THIS CORRECTION...
Is there no chain of command? Pastor should let the Worship leader know. The Worship leader makes the adjustment. But if the Pastor already had a talk with the Worship leader, and nothing changed, then yes, this also got the job done.
The Pastor was NOT wrong, if he’s told them previously, because the Bible makes it clear that open rebuke is good to make others take heed. I use to be over the choir, and it’s unbelievable how many people want to lead songs, but can’t sing, and they’ll get mad if you kindly tell them NO! Look on those folks that use to come on American Idol, who thought they could sing, because nobody wanted to offend them. They embarrassed themselves, and they would also cuss the judges out!😅
Pastor pastor....my eldest sista Irene can toot a lil bit. Her and dat gal Flo be going down yonder by the barn. Meet up wit dem fellas. They be justa Squawking
I'm not mad because I've been in churches where there absolutely WERE people who couldn't sing their way through a wet sheet of tissue paper but were always the ones who insisted on leading the songs. Unfortunately, the choir directors didn't have the spines to tell them no. This falls on the director! Don't be mad at the (non) singers. Everybody did their own soundcheck in the shower that morning where even a laborious mule would sound half-decent. lol
What does singing has to do with the teaching of Jesus. Are the singing verses from the Bible? How does singing in the church brings you close to God???
Good question tbf - but in the Bible, there are instances where people sang or danced to God as an act of worship and appreciation. For example after God parted the Red Sea and freed the Israelites from Egypt, Moses and the Israelites burst into song 🎶 I think we all have our ways of connecting to God through our own interests - like I’m a musical person and I really connect to God through that. So I think God connects to us in the way he’s made us 😊
This is not the time and place to say this. I have sung in a choir in the past and yes, there are those that are tone deaf. But this was handled distastefully. How embarrassing and insulting for those choir members. Church isn’t a production, and some lose sight of this. It’s suppose to be worship, not performances.
INappropriate behavior from the pulpit, very inappropriate! Vid does not care whether we are “expert singers” or not. Not does he care what this man thinks of people singing to him. Scripture says to “make a joyful noise” NOT an expert or beautiful noise unto the Lord. This man apparently does not even know what scripture says about singing praise! Embarrassing!
@@malakaivfx1770 not really though. He hasn't attended choir practice? He couldn't have told them that behind the scenes? In front of everyone is tacky.
