- I put this video together a couple years ago as a before-service countdown for a local church. Some have criticized me for putting this together and uploading, saying I am mocking good church people and all. I understand; I get it. But far more people, for whatever reason(s), just needed a good laugh in their lives. This is for them.

I don’t care what nobody says, the trio was bumping. Not too many people, including a lot of pop stars, can dance and stay in tune while singing. They did it live while a lot of pop stars lip sync their routine. I give the trio an A+ for effort.

Maybe it's not totally lip-synched, I don't know, but there definitely are some vocals being sung that aren't coming from their mouths.

I agree with your mother. Too often the praise team becomes more about the performance, than about the spirit. However, it is a bit distracting if one can’t carry a tune. The praise team at my church seems to have the right balance of just enough amateur talent to be relatively pleasing to the ear, and and not so much talent that it becomes a performance. The praise team should become “transparent”, so that they help lead the congregation in song and praising of God with their talents, but not so good that their talents distract you from praising God yourself. If they are doing it right, they should almost “disappear” during the service, and all that is left is praising God.

Ok. As a kid who grew up with Southern Gospel quartets and trios coming for “Nights of Worship”. The blue group was them trying to be hip. It made us kids cringe.

The trio sounds great but the dancing seemed rather out of place . I do believe in more free dance not necessarily to entertain people but dancing to the Lord in praise . Like praise Him with the dance in Psalms 150.

As someone who's run sound board for a number of churches over the years, there's really only two golden rules as far as who's cut out for worship.
1.) If you're making it a performance and about yourself, you're not ready yet regardless the talent level.
2.) If you don't have the talent, you don't have it. Many people judge a church (incorrectly, but still) solely off the worship and the mood it sets. It is a large part of each Sunday and shouldn't be neglected.
That being said, that trio would absolutely kill it in children's ministry. Just change the moves to something fun and the words to content kids could understand and they would be a smash.
Well put. I am a performer, I don’t offer to sing in church because it is difficult not to perform. When I do sing in church I have to kill that in myself. That is when I get nervous. Doing it for worship versus to get the applause.

I lived through an experience like this. A family, dressed up in cowboy clothes, performing three(!!!) songs in a row at a Christmas church service. All out of tune and no singing voice at all... Eternity, got a new meaning that evening.

Do you have any idea how boring church would have been for me as a kid if I didn’t get to go home mocking these bad solos every Sunday? We enable them because we need a comedy break.
When I was in church as a kid, Mrs. Smelly and Mrs Hamburger (real names) got up in front of the church to sing. I had to leave bc I was laughing so hard.
When all of us laughed, the pew would shake. My dad (a pastor) was not amused!

Thank you. Recalling my childhood church....there was a family there who sounded an awful lot like the Muppets when they sang hymns. It was agony to try to keep it together if you were sitting anywhere within range of them.

My Church likes for everyone to sing I have lovingly refused for 30+ years. I was asked why I told them I I've never been kicked out of Church before but If I started singing I would be shown to the door. One of these days I will be able to sing to my Lord and Savior with a voice that wont peel paint off the wall.
