I don’t care what nobody says, the trio was bumping. Not too many people, including a lot of pop stars, can dance and stay in tune while singing. They did it live while a lot of pop stars lip sync their routine. I give the trio an A+ for effort.

My mother had a theory about bad church singing. If their heart is right by the time the sound reached heaven it got all straightened and they sounded great.
I agree with your mother. Too often the praise team becomes more about the performance, than about the spirit. However, it is a bit distracting if one can’t carry a tune. The praise team at my church seems to have the right balance of just enough amateur talent to be relatively pleasing to the ear, and and not so much talent that it becomes a performance. The praise team should become “transparent”, so that they help lead the congregation in song and praising of God with their talents, but not so good that their talents distract you from praising God yourself. If they are doing it right, they should almost “disappear” during the service, and all that is left is praising God.
A similar thing happened once during this one church service I went to with my family. This dude sitting near us starting ripping loud farts and I started choking trying to hold in my laughter. My sister and I ended up leaving the sanctuary to go into the hallway because we couldn’t stop laughing.

Well put. I am a performer, I don’t offer to sing in church because it is difficult not to perform. When I do sing in church I have to kill that in myself. That is when I get nervous. Doing it for worship versus to get the applause.

I lived through an experience like this. A family, dressed up in cowboy clothes, performing three(!!!) songs in a row at a Christmas church service. All out of tune and no singing voice at all... Eternity, got a new meaning that evening.

My Church likes for everyone to sing I have lovingly refused for 30+ years. I was asked why I told them I I've never been kicked out of Church before but If I started singing I would be shown to the door. One of these days I will be able to sing to my Lord and Savior with a voice that wont peel paint off the wall.
Singers in small churches are often told it doesn't matter if you have talent as long as you give it everything you've got! But, if you're being recorded, it matters.
Its easy to get away with making bad music in small churches and rural America because standards are much lower. Put them in larger churches or the big city and they are in for a rude awakening

I lived through an experience like this. A family, dressed up in cowboy clothes, performing three(!!!) songs in a row at a Christmas church service. All out of tune and no singing voice at all... Eternity, got a new meaning that evening.

I would have desperately tried (and probably failed) to hold back laughter during that. How did no one else, including the pastor there, not burst out laughing during that.

My Church likes for everyone to sing I have lovingly refused for 30+ years. I was asked why I told them I I've never been kicked out of Church before but If I started singing I would be shown to the door. One of these days I will be able to sing to my Lord and Savior with a voice that wont peel paint off the wall.
Singers in small churches are often told it doesn't matter if you have talent as long as you give it everything you've got! But, if you're being recorded, it matters.
Its easy to get away with making bad music in small churches and rural America because standards are much lower. Put them in larger churches or the big city and they are in for a rude awakening
