Jeff is the absolute BEST DIY professor anywhere. He’s brilliant!
So I'm a master HVAC technician and a Journeyman Electrician, and I'm that guy that will lean over the rail to exchange those out every now and then, and so far, I've been lucky. But I know my times coming where luck runs out. I tried thinking of a handful of different ways to go about this but this right here, os worth the extra 15 minutes of work. Thank you sir!!
I’ve been looking at precarious looking stair ladders online all weekend... I should have known that the king of DIY would have a better solution. Thank you! 🙌🏻
Pure genius! You've saved me from falling off a ladder and wood plank death trap that I had planned. The simplest solutions are always the best
Easily and without question the best DIY instructor in RUclips.
How? What about for beginners without any DIY experience who just wanted to find out how to access a stairwell globe? This video leaps into constructing wooden frames and stuff, it's clever and I'm sure it's DIY-boner material, but for those who struggle with DIY like I, it's far in excess of my abilities.
@@DanielVerberne I realized that I wrote that comment a while back and your point is valid. I don’t even really agree with the comment I made in fact. I think the guy’s effective in an intermediate standpoint. The Honest Carpenter is a good account for someone just starting out to understand tools and methodologies
You are friggin AWESOME. Sure with I had you around my house to help me with a few projects.
Best video ever! I do all my house renovations at home, and I've been trying to figure out how to change all the hideous 70's light fixtures on my 17 ft ceilings since forever. I'm a tiny female and not strong, so this is something I can do myself. Thank you sir!
Same!!! Im glade I’m here
This is absolutely brilliant! I did it yesterday and it worked just as described. I can't wait to watch your other videos. THANK YOU!
Excellent idea! Big brain!👍
An electrician I called, quote me for $1,100.00 to install my chandelier. I saw this video and your stairs has the same layout of ours, I went to Home Depot to purchase the materials to build. Cost me only less than a hundred dollars and it took me to build and install about 8 hours including break time.
I just wanted to thank you for posting this video! 😁
@DaveGhidiu and I used your technique to change a chandelier in my foyer about 5 years ago - worked super well and honestly it’s thanks to you that I didn’t die trying to do it with a long ladder or something. Thanks!
I used this system today; worked like a charm! Very safe and easy to assemble. Thank you for posting. Cheers
Awesome Austyn. Thanks for getting back to me.
Thanks for the tip. I was able to replace the light fixture in my stairwell today. I couldn't figure out how to place a ladder to reach the fixture. You saved me tons of time and money.
FREAKING GENIUS!! I love DIY creative outside the box ideas how to do things alone since its rare I'll have immediate help of others when I want to do things around the house or when I do not want to hire someone to do it for me. I'm going to get my scrap wood together right now and made me a platform today to change out a 20' ceiling fixture. OMGosh I'm sooooo excited! :-)
This video was extremely helpful! I built a platform following your steps and will have it for years to come!
I just made one to change a chandelier. Thank you so much !! Worked perfectly
I installed a new chandelier with the help
of this video at my new home in Toronto, ON Canada. Electrician was asking $500 CDN did it with $35. This works!! Thank you so much for this video. saved me ton of money. I wanted to share picture but it isn’t allowing me to add one. Thanks again!
I've been racking my brains and going crazy on amazon looking for a supposed scaffolding-looking structure to support me while I try to replace my broken ceiling light. Now you've shown me a solution. Thank you very much.
Great video and fantastic system. Easy to assemble and made the job safe and easy. Thanks for posting!
I am fairly useless and Home RenoVision has still saved me a lot of money, all the videos are well done.
I'm about to do this. You saved my butt. Thanks.
Glad to help. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
Home RenoVision DIY would a pendant light in a gymnasium sway if struck by a ball ?
This is awesome. It saved me a lot of money and gave me satisfaction of installing myself. Thank you very much for posting this video. God bless.
Well, that certainly answered the question on how to paint high ceilings. Thanks!!
Glad to be of service. Cheers Teresa!
One man lift, will allow you to paint high ceilings too.
I used this method so I could install recessed lighting over my stairs. I can't believe how strong it was. Awsome idea.
Thanks for putting this video together. Very helpful and to the point. Perfect how-to video.
Thanks Matthew, glad to hear that you enjoyed it! Cheers!
Nice, simple, smart and safe! Thanks for the vid. I was thinking of drilling into my wall, this saves from doing that and can bear much higher loads. Thanks!
So glad you like the idea Jorge, It works great for painting as well.
Omg lifesaver; my lights went out in the stairwell I'm super short and clumsy wasn't sure what to do to fix it. This solution is super doable!
I too have a similar job in hand and was looking for ideas. Great idea, practical and simple. I would however support the two legs against the wall from swaying sidewise.
Thank you so much for this most informative how to video. I've had a beautiful lighting fixture for a few years but uneasy on how to get to the cathedral ceiling safely. Entryway light is in split level home this technique you've shown will work perfectly. It'll cost more than $30 though but worth it instead of hospital visit or paying electrician >$100 to do
Now you have faith and hope,. nothing left but to show the love and you did that with your comment, so appreciate it!
Love it dude. Thanks for the hack!
I've a learnt so much following your channel and have done major renos myself. you're the best DIY guy I know of.
This man is a national treasure.
This is going to make today’s job so much easier thanks!
Extremely Helpful!!!! Love the video and the advice.
Not the most common problem but a very handy solution. Cheers!
This guy is a genius 👏
Ok, I haven't installed my staircase light for 10 years now being it around 17 feet above the staircase and didn't want to spent big on a special ladder. This will do the trick for me, thanks!!
You are the best out there. Amazing videos with so many technical ideas. You are thorough and hilarious. Thank you sir.
I've been dreading the day I would have to replace the lightbulb over the stairs in my house. This is such a terrific idea that now I am excited to do it. Thank you so much!
put in a led bulb so it lasts longer. Cheers!
Great idea! Thanks again.
Bravo. You just saved my neck, literally and figuratively.
Genius! Thank you so much for showing the average person how to do this type of thing SAFELY!!
You are my best Best Client Ever.
I have a light in a tricky spot too, but I was going to create a platform by drilling the 2x6's right into my wall until I saw this video. Your solution is way better. Genius!
Thanks Steven, be safe
This is such a smart idea. My house does not have a fancy stairway like that, in fact I live in a ranch house so no stairs, buy I will remember this if I ever upgrade. Thank you.
Share with your friends. It is amazing how many ladder injuries happen every year just because people are willing to take the risk not realizing how dangerous it is.
How innovative! Our new house will have one of those fixtures above the stairwell (although it will even have an opening to below) and the first thing I thought to myself was "How do you get up there?". This is a lot cheaper than scaffolding and even way more cheaper than a chandelier lift.
Done this today to make some joint repairs in the stairs, strong and easy to do, thanks for this trick.
Good video. Just FYI, the light switch being off doesn't guarantee that the power is off to the light. Someone could have accidentally switched the neutral instead, and can really surprise you while your'e up on that ladder.
Concise and clear, I learned something today. Cheers from a fellow Ottawan!
I've been trying to figure out how I was going to change my stairway light fixture for the last couple months. I finally decided to rent an extension ladder. This is so stupidly simple, yet absolutely genius, I'm just sitting here flabbergasted right now. Thanks for such an elegant solution to an annoying, and potentially dangerous problem! Subscribed!
Brilliant. This could come in handy. We’re building a new home and I’ll have a stairway to paint that I’ll use this method for 👍🏼
You would be surprised how many horrible paint jobs in stairwells exist.
Great job! Much respect to you!
Thank you Carlie!
Thank you, nice video.
Excellent bit of engineering, thanks for the video!
Cheers Robert!
thanks man, this is such a useful video. I am going to use what I learned here this week to change an old lighting fixture in my house. :)
Awesome, I keep my parts in the shed for whenever it is necessary.
So simple so brilliant!! I'm trying to figure out what the 123 people who disliked this video are thinking. Maybe they own shares in stairwell ladder companies.
Great concept, thanks!
Our pleasure.
A brilliant idea. Thanks a million.
Got a thousand of them. Stay tuned.
My initial thoughts before seeing your video was find three studs and screw 2x6 horizontally into wall securely. Then run a few planks on top and screw ends into horizontal 2x6. Then have to patch screw holes and paint wall area afterwards. But all areas challenging to reach with this stair configuration.
Thank you *very* much, saved me a lot of coin with a contractor.
Man!!!!! Thank youuu for sharing it with us, your brilliant ideas that you have
Your genius never ceases to amaze me :).
Jeff has the biggest contractor brain on the planet.
Great work!
Thanks Robert!
Jeff, my electrician has suggested using 2x12 boards for the platform and I was wondering if there is extra support required for the frame. The gap is ft. Thanks
This is awesome....Thank you!!!
Thank you for the comment. cheers!
Cracking solution to a procaras problem well done👍
Love this! We have a split foyer and didn't know how in the world my husband was going to reach the ceiling to replace a ceiling fan. Problem solved!
glad to be of some help Lynda. Cheers!
Great channel . I was trying to figure out a way to replace a chandelier without having to rent a scaffold or find a rig that fits the location.
awesome just what I was looking for
glad to help.
You are heaven sent.
Smart idea, I like itThanks
Thank you for the comment.
I did it after watching your video.. using same idea to make platform according to my stairs ..I wanted to send you pictures of my project but anyway, Thank you so much for the video.
I love your thinking! I have a small similar problem, but my stairs are straight and parallel leading into the downstairs hallway. I have a short wall of my upper floor where I need to fix the problem fixture. could I do something similar to your setup across the stair well?
Hi Rochelle, first this idea is not engineered. I cannot give advice over the internet about your specific idea.
Awesome idea!! Thanks so much!!
You are a genius! Thank YOU!
I wouldn't go that far but I have been known to be handy on occasion. Cheers. Glad to hear this helped.
Thanks for sharing it! and I love your system. Do you think it would be safe for 16 feet length space from the front wall to the opposite side wall? I need at least 14' lumbers to adept this concept, and I wonder if it would be okay to use 4 of 16' 2x6s? Or if it's too long for the load?
I have the same question except I have about a 10 foot span. Maybe 1 or 2 more structural point loads and a few more platform boards?
@@kristawolf6687 I ended up renting the interior scaffolding from HD for $50/day. It worked great. The best part was it fit in my 2011 Subaru Outback.
Life saver! Worked like a charm!
dude!!!! you are amazing!!!
You are!
Great Creative Thinking to make a job that seems so out of reach possible! Yes, it is not going to be a quick project, but it sure helps to solve the problem of accessing a high ceiling in an open area on a stairway. Thanks!
Not everything is easy, but at least you won't have to paint the walls again when you are done.
Awesome 👏🏾
very helpful thanks
Thanks Mathieu, hope this helps with odd situations
So we just borrowed our neighbors 22 foot little giant and my husband zipped up there and changed out the light fixture himself. But this is a very cool idea.
You earned another sub! Awesome video!
so easy, thank you for the idea. You're the best!
Nicely done.
I learned a lot.Thanks!
I Subscribed.
Love your channel, thanks for everything. I'm thinking this method might work best for my circumstance. I'd like to know your thoughts . I'll try and contact you so I can send you pics. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
IT'S very hard work but itis beautiful thanks Mr.Thorman
Thank you for watching
Awesome video! Thank you!!
The best. Thank you
I tried this on a spiral stairs and failed. Is there something specific that I need to do for spiral stairs ? Or does it simply not work for spiral stairs
BRILLIANT
Can you do a video on how to update a winding staircase. I took the carpet off mine and cannot decide if to sand and refinish or put new wood on top (laminate floor) I have kite shaped stairs that wind and those are kind of a pain
Great tip. You don’t wanna know what I was planning to do lol
Great solution to a very common problem
Great video!!
Awesome video. Thank you!!
Glad it helped!
This just helped me big time thanks
very Nice technique
Thanks, just combining structural knowledge with a little ingenuity.
Amazing!
OMG!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
OMG, your welcome.!!!!!
perfect , thank you!
I know now how I'm going to paint my stairwell/foyer. The cost of the lumber is small compared to the cost of painters/scaffolding.
For a moment, I was wondering why you used screws in those brackets. It makes sense since the structure is for temporary use.
