Oh man, I loved this short film. Definitely more like this. Wow, the quality of the new Black Magic camera is incredible. I so agree with you though, that in some spots it looked maybe "too good". Giving it that digital feel, instead of analog film. Not complaining though. This was awesome content. I will be watching this several times and sharing with anyone I can get to watch it.
For me? Honestly, mixed. When it works, it’s great. The Immersive view really puts you into the claustrophobic spaces of the submarine and the vastness of underwater. The special effects are well done. Good acting. Story is the best you can do in the short format. The problems, in my opinion, stem from the filmmaker not taking full advantage of the medium. In most shots, while you can look all around, there’s nothing to see except what is right in front of you. The director is bound by his previous experience, so it’s important that you be looking at just one thing. But (based on the documentary shorts that have been released in this format before) I’d say that the value is in rewatching. You can’t take in everything in every direction at once so you’re motivated to rewatch to see what’s happening “over there.” Where the clash between medium and direction is most evident is in the early establishing shots. One example, a shot of the main character in profile. It’s shot over his shoulder with her head turned. The problem? The background is blurred and out of focus. In this format, that really looks unrealistic. So, definitely recommend if you have the chance, but it’s clear a new filmmaking language is necessary for this new medium.
Great film. I can’t see it replacing flat screen movies, but I think for the right content, it’s great. Looking forward to Black Magic getting their camera out, and seeing what people do with it.
Can someone tell me how this film compares to the 180 immersive series on Meta Quest 3 called The Faceless Lady, which I loved but had issues w picture quality imo.
Yes, I have both and the image quality and immersion of the Vision Pro content is 10x better than the Meta. Meta better for games, but that’s about it.
I didn't like the use of bokeh (background blur) in this film, especially in the establishing shots at the start. It seems to me that such strong bokeh is completely inappropriate for VR180 immersive content like this because you want to be able to look around in an Immersive film and the human eye would not have such strongly blurry areas in your field of vision. For a longer film it would be nice to have more that draws us in to really care about the characters. The film was generally good and I don't want to downplay the obvious talent of the actors and director but it definitely requires storyboarding differently and, although this got 75% of the way, I feel there's further to go.
Yeah, it’s not super clear what exactly they’re using. But as far as I’ve seen online, they are using a modified Black Magic Design Ursa Camera. So basically, it’s a Black Magic camera that is modified for the immersive content workflow by Apple. But, other sources just say that it’s a specially designed Camera by Apple. Who knows? Whatever it is though, it does look amazing!
The soap opera thing is like when a TV is playing back at 120 hertz versus. 60 hertz. It makes everything look extra sharp and detailed and less cinematic. As far as what else I didn’t like, not much, I wish it was longer. I can’t wait till we can see a movie like this that’s about 1 to 2 hours long!
The shot where the POV is immediately above the torpedo tube, and when they load the torpedo and push it towards you, it seems to go right through your chest. That really spoiled the illusion of ‘being there’ which is what this technology is designed to achieve like nothing else.

Yea, me too!
Agree 100% - this film is the future of entertainment

Very well put!
Did anyone else hold their breath when the water started rising 😮
Love it ❤ I agree we need more is unbelievable how good was this short film
They need to do a horror film like this. I will wait and buy the next generation of vision pro
Agreed! And great vid.
thanks man!

I agree but I’m curious, what do you think it’d take for it to replace flat screen movies?
need more like this!
Agree, loved it!!

You should test a Vision Pro in a Apple store. The quality is not even remotely comparable.

@markoconnell4518 is there an app on the AVP to watch immerdive 3d animated films? Meta has a largeibrary on meta tv and theater elsewhere apps.

Yeah, totally agree! Can’t wait to see in what different ways this is used.
it is not the blackmagic camera it was recorded with, apple built its own camera system , if I m not doing a mistake

Is there anything you didn’t like about it? You mentioned soap operas, I’m out of the loop by what you mean by that. Is it sharpening or frame rate?

@@VisionProforNerds Ah I see, that makes sense. I am looking forward to see more long form content in this medium as well. Great video by the way!

Can you download these immersive films to the decice to maximise quality? If so, how large are the files?
