    I own an AVP and love it so much for movies. And 3D movies are absolutely insane. I love in France and the 3D movie list is pretty light. I’m praying for this list to grow, because once you’ve seen a movie in 3D on this device, I can’t watch it again in 2D with it. Image is perfect, especially in the cinema environment. Crazy. Even better than in the movie theater.
    The only problem is that as long as the AVP is a niche product, it’s not going to be a quick process …

    I bought a Vision Pro when It came out, and the 3D movies alone was almost enough for me to keep it. If there were more of them, I would have. It was mind-blowing then, can only imagine what it will be like in the future.
    The only movie theater than can compare to this is one with just Vision Pros in every seat instead of a screen.

    I bought a couple 3D tvs both passive and active, my active one is even 4K, but its when I got a projector that truly immersed me into the picture, I have over 200 3D blurays now and watching them in 3D is the best experience over 4K and 2D imo, I'd more than welcome a new home media format and would happily rebuy movies I already own

    • @WRNFILM
      @WRNFILM  4 месяца назад +1

      How were the 3D TVs? Are the reviews I referenced in the video relatively accurate in your opinion or by the time you purchased the 4K model had the tech improved?

    • @Lighthouse3D
      @Lighthouse3D 4 месяца назад

      @@WRNFILM yeah you got them mostly right, not a lot wrong, the "problem" with passive 3D TV sets was that some of them required you to be directly in the "sweet spot" to get zero ghosting (crosstalk), my passive 3D TV has this issue, so even if you're in the sweet spot,if items had more depth in or out of the screen you would see ghosting, it's a shame and diminishes some of the 3D effect, but if you can live with it its fine, some passive 3D tvs have zero crosstalk, but you have to get the right models, 4k 3D passive models solved the resolution issue as half of 2160 is 1080p, the 3D 4k oleds are said to be the best 3D experience when it comes to 3D TVs. A plus on passive 3D TVs is motion since you don't have to rely on flickering and frames, the TV is able to move nice and smooth with zero stuttering
      For the 4K active 3D TV it's almost the same thing, the plus is you don't have to be in a sweet spot, and you can sit far or close as you want, the 3D 4K image (even though I know 3D Blu-rays are 1080p) look stunning, crisp, and sharp, colours and contrast are very nice, the problem is the limitations of the LCD display technology as the screen itself doesn't change frames fast enough to compensate for the ghosting, so there is ghosting, I mostly see it in very high contrast items like lights and texts, if the 3D strength is too strong and volumetric then you also see ghosting around said object. I don't have a problem with the active shutter glasses since I'm used to it on my projector, but if they sold emitters for existing TVs to make them 3D, they'd have to be active, I would buy one for my oled since the screen response time on oleds are instant, this removes the ghosting issue, and modern TVs now have black frame insertions which would also help eliminate the ghosting issue for non-oleds

      @@WRNFILMI have an LG 4k TV with passive 3D, I bought it right when LG announced their next TVs would not have 3D. It’s far better than the active 3D TV I had before, and the passive format doesn’t lose resolution like the first passive TVs did. There is still a bit of ghosting however.
      I’m a huge fan of 3D though, I have nearly every 3D Blu-ray that was put out. Plenty of new movies are still being made in 3D but not many have been released for home viewing now, which means I’ve been buying far fewer movies altogether.
      If my TV ever dies I’ll have no choice but to get a projector with 3D. I have zero interest in watching movies on a head-mounted device.

    The reason why 3D movies look impressive on Apple vision pro is because of the pixel density of the lenses. There was a single CES where 3D 8KTVs were shown in prototype form without the need for 3D glasses. People were blown away only for us to never hear from the tech ever again.

      3D on AVP isnt magic. Compared with going to an IMAX theater, its a pick your poison scenario. AVP eliminates most visual crosstalk (Flicker) due to separate lenses, but has a low refresh rate (100hz). 3D content on AVP offers great contrast and sharper image, but in a smaller field of view, and worse audio. IMAX theaters by comparison offer a higher refresh rate (144hz), seating with greater field of view, better audio, lower price of entry, and the ability for social interation.

    The one thing I don't like about 3D movies on Apple Vison Pro is the fact that their is no ownership of anything. Studios can take their content off the platform tomorrow and your left with nothing but memory's. Even though 3D Blu-rays don't look as good as what's on Vison Pro. You still own it at the end of the day and its not going to disappear over night like what's happen with so many digital forms of media on other platforms.

    • @ObserVR-gamer
      @ObserVR-gamer 3 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately digital is the future. Most people actually don't have or use physical media players anymore. The last 2 generations really don't bother with DVD or Bluray players and quite frankly it won't be long before there is nothing to connect these devices to. TV's last about 10 years, and in about 5 years, everyone will have some form of head mounted display, so TVs will be obsolete. Meta Orion has already been shown as a working prototype of Meta Holographic glasses. The Snapchat Spectacles 24 are already available. Google, Samsung and Qualcom are partnering on a AR device. Cell phones will be worn on peoples faces within a couple years, and even the elderly will have adopted AR glasses by 2030.
      While 1080p 3d blu rays are cool to have, I have some myself, I just don't think they will be a useful item in 15 years, when all of the televisions are breaking down. In fact... most of the 3d tvs have already started breaking down. 3d cinema is not going to be held back to 1080p resolution and tech isn't going to restrain itself to what televisions can handle. With HMDs everyone will already have 3d displays and 2D is going to feel old and retro, just like black and white movies do now. Everything from home videos to Facebook feeds to Amazon online shopping will be 3d.

PS4 and the original Xbox One. My (then) new BenQ projector. The only thing I needed were glasses - 20 dollars a pop. I still use this setup - and in my living room. @@WRNFILM Not sure of your tastes but you mentioned Jaws 3D. I'm happy to report that the 3D Blu-ray of that is easily the preferred way to watch (I have a soft-spot myself). It's very well done considering the vintage. One thing to note as you go forward. I've found that whether the movie was shot in 3D or was a post-conversion began to matter very little as the tech matured. Post-conversions used software and it turned out that starting with a 2D image gave them more flexibility to manipulate the image. Films shot natively were locked into whatever they did during the actual shoot. So if they messed up during shooting, there wasn't much they could do to fix it in post. As such, at the end of the initial run of 3D we got some magnificent post-conversions - Top Gun and Jurassic Park, just to name a few.

    I don't see IMAX and Dolby Cinemas as a competition to 3D but rather as an enhancement since they already support 3D for a long time. My favorite way of watching 3D that's non VR would be IMAX 3D that uses dual laser projection so it supports 4K, HDR and HFR as well. (I also love 4DX even more for more sensical enhancements but unfortunately it isn't offered with that same visual immersion that you get from IMAX 3D yet).
    But I agree VR is definitely the future of immersive motion picture content it's just gonna take a while for it to become the standard cause currently 3,500 USD is way too expensive for the masses which is why people will still use their 2D screens for a while.

My guess is that 3D is done to diversify these risky assets and to eck out a few more million dollars.... but why can't we get good movies in 3D?

    LOL. Nice video but you crossed off extreme cost barriers for the average consumer... Let's think about that one. I have one and I don't even think that's true. You could say that other headsets make will exist, but they don't yet. The apple vision is the only one I know of that can stream these, and it isn't exactly affordable.

    • @WRNFILM
      @WRNFILM  4 месяца назад +1

      Ah! Totally agree with you. I could have done a better job clarifying why I crossed that one off because it was not in reference to the Vision Pro.
      It was about access to a 3D setup in general (Projector + 3D Blu Ray + glasses) which can all be purchased new or used at a far more reasonable consumer price than back in 2010 / Vision Pro.

    There are 4k 3D televisions so that is inaccurate.
    Bigscreen VR has been around since 2016 and has had a much bigger impact on 3D movies than the Apple Vision Pro that has only sold 60k-80k units.
    Yes, you can now stream higher quality 3d movie files on Apple Vision Pro, but nobody is going to bother distributing to a user base of less than 100,000 people, and Apple didn't seem to invent any of the codecs you mention, so Apple Vision Pro at best is nothing more than a very limited use device that is capable of running the digital 3D movies in 4k, but so are many other headsets, especially in that price point. The Pimax Crystal Super releases this year 3840x3840 per eye panels available in Qled or Micro Oled with superior Glass Aspheric lenses and only costs $2k. As a PCVR headset. The Crystal Light has a per eye resolution of 2880x2880 a variable refresh rate of 120 Hz, Glass Aspheric lens (superior to AVP's Pancake lens) and has QLED screens, and is only $900. So what exactly did Apple Vision Pro do other than making a backroom distribution exclusivity deal with Disney?

    Anyone who thinks the people who couldn't bear wearing light weight 3D glasses for 2hrs in 2010 are going to spend $3500 to wear a brick on their face to solitarily watch 3D content is delusional at best.
    As a 3D TV enthusiast from back in 2010, my recommendation to revive 3D TV is to create a new 1080p HDR 3D content standard streamed at 120hz. This allows inexpensive TVs to become 4k/120hz 3D TVs that offer polarized screens and cheap 3D glasses. This eliminates flicker, insures a bright image, lightweight glasses, and low costs for content, hardware manufacturer/ consumers, thus eliminating every complaint from 2013.

    Hey WRN FILM, I have a question, but you don't need to answer it if you don't want to. Do you have a form of dyslexia?
    In the video you will sometimes miss out phonemes from words, or misspell them. I am asking this out of genuine curiosity, of course there is nothing wrong with having it. (and if anyone thinks otherwise they suck).
    Anyway, I have always enjoyed 3d movies, especially 3D max which looks more three dimensional than regular 3D. I hope 3d movies will stick around.

      Not as far as I’m aware, but then again I don’t think I’ve ever been tested so 🤷.
      Spelling errors on my videos at the very least point to poor QC on my end. I type out these titles very fast while editing just to have them where they need to be.
      I need to take the time to spell / grammar check them.

    We just need movies shot in 180° 🤦 you can keep all the focus in the center for flat media and the extra dimension for a more immersive experience in vr. You can have whole movie theaters with vr headsets without the worry of people wondering what's behind them. If you're not into the headset you can always continue watching the movie on the screen duh I'm seriously wondering why it's taking so long for people to figure this out 😤

    Someone just sold me an 1,800$ Panasonic 3D plasma TV last week for 40$. I’m waiting for the glasses to get here. I Love my PSVR2 but I wish I could watch 3D movies on it. Seems like a really big missed opportunity by Sony. If Sony offered HFR 3D movie streaming for the PSVR2 like Apple does with the Vision pro I would absolutely use my PSVR2 for watching movies. The flat 2D large screen feature is boring compared to the actual VR games.
