    It is SOOOOO important that you cover these topics. So many young girls (maybe even women) didn't have their mothers/parents help them with these tips. I use all these tips and have taught my young daughter the same, but I know MANY who follow minimal hygiene practices and it shows. It's not a fun topic, but def an important one. Great video!!! My guess is most people, even young ones, knows how to shower in a way that suits their needs? Something they should be taught is how to not waste water, how to be mindful when choosing soaps etc, how to pick sustainable habits. We need to think about our earth if we want to keep it 🌸

    • @AudreyVictoria
      @AudreyVictoria  2 года назад +127

      this is a really good point! something i should've mentioned in the video, is how important and helpful it is to use a handheld shower head. i find that i waste sooo much less water this way. because i can control where the shower head is going, the soap rinses off my body much faster, thus using less water. also, if i don't need to have the water on (if i'm washing my hair, face, etc), then i just turn it off until it's time to rinse! hopefully everyone will see this lol, i regret not mentioning these points in the video

      Hi! I agree that we should talk about conserving water. However, I'd like to point out that assuming people know how to shower, or any other "basic" act of hygiene, is a privileged thought process. Not everyone had a proper guardian in their life who communicated or cared enough to teach them 💕 just food for thought!

    notes:
    1. the amount of times you shower depends on your skin type but its better to shower every 1 or 2 days.
    2. shower with lukewarm water!!
    3. wash your hair first
    4. when using shampoo, just clean your roots and scalp because thats where all the oil builds up not your roots.
    5. when conditioning, you want to apply on the mid length of your hair to the ends and leave it there for 2 or 3 minutes.
    6. while waiting for your conditioner, just wash your armpits with your HANDS loofas and stuff like that just harbor bacteria.
    7. while cleaning your armpits, use castile soap DILUTED to get rid of your deodorant residue so your pores dont get clogged or in-grown hairs. it can also clog your razor!
    8. dont use a wash cloths, loofas, body brushes and stuff like that. they harbor bacteria which gives you acne and other bad stuff. just use your HANDS.
    9. apply your soap directly to your hand and rub it on your body. oh and after rinsing the soap, you can just shave your armpits
    10. WASH YOUR BODY *AFTER* CONDITIONING! or you'll get back acne and just acne on your body in general. and it can also clog your pores.
    11. put your hair in a clip or towel while lathering your body or your hair will pick up some of the body soap making your hair dry.
    12. wash your face before washing your body.
    13. bar soap doesnt harbor bacteria!
    14. use irish spring if you are really really dirty and avoid it if you have sensitive skin at all costs!
    15. after using irish spring use shade butter
    16. places you forget to clean: behind your ears, in between rolls, underneath your knees, in-between your fingers, in-between your toes, and in your belly button!
    17: Clean your feet last!

      It's OK. You don't have to start at perfect. If you have zero days now, then 1 day a week will be an improvement. Nobody expects perfection from you. A therapist can help you with the feelings about your body as well. Just try for small improvements and if you can't do the whole routine, that's OK, because you tried and still made an improvement. Wherever you are at now is OK as long as you try to go forward.

    • @kireikiku
      @kireikiku 2 года назад +5

      @@lauramikic3636 Not a dermatologist but I am a hair stylist. You can't really "train" your oil glands to a new schedule, you have to work around your oil glands. I'm able to wear my hair for 6/7 days if I push it. It's a matter of finding the right products that target your hairs need without weighing it down. If you go for intensive moisture on wash day and you don't have a coarser hair texture, it's going to weigh your hair down. By day 3 or 4 it will most likely feel too oily to work with. Learning how to style your hair throughout that many days is just as important as finding the right products. I wait until I'm closer to a wash day to break out my dry shampoo to avoid too much build up of product. The closer you get to wash day/the oilier your hair is, the easier it is for it to hold texture. Nearing wash day I gravitate towards dutch braids, top knots, ponytails, or any type of curling/waving. Hope this helps!

    If you are going to shower at night and therefore wash your hair at night DO NOT go to bed with damp hair. It will create the perfect environment for yeast/fungus to grow on your scalp because of the combination of humidity and heat that gets trapped between your hair and pillow or towel. Showering specifically with the purpose of also washing your hair is sometimes better in the morning for this reason.

    Irish Spring and body wash from Bath and Body Works are exactly the same thing in that they’re just fragrance and strong, unnecessary surfactants. You can for sure use something to assist your body washing technique aside from soap. There are antibacterial gloves from supracor or exfoliating gloves that can be found in Target and many other stores. Throw them in the wash after your shower like you normally would a rag and you’re set to go.

    You need to use a washcloth to remove the dead skin that feeds the B.O. causing bacteria. Btw washcloths ARE much more sanitary than a loofa and don't "spread bacteria," at least not when you use them correctly. You can get a pack of 7-10, use a fresh one each time you shower and then wash them all on laundry day.

    I have always showered at night. I don’t want to go to bed dirty. I wash my hair daily because it is fine, thin and oily. I don’t wash my whole body daily but I wash the important parts. I use fragrance free Dove baby soap or occasionally Panoxyl because it is exfoliating and antibacterial. I only shave my legs in the bath with colloidal oatmeal. If I don’t I get razor burn.

    My father swears by Wright’s Coal Tar bar soap, it’s an antibacterial soap that’s still gentle (comparative to other antibacterial soaps) for face + body, and as we always had a couple extra bars in the cupboard, my siblings + me always ended up using eventually. Its my default soap for travel, overnights or 2-3 week trips, I’ve even used it to get deodorant stains and smells out of sportswear! It’s the Ol’ Reliable of bar soap, if you don’t want to spring for Dr Bronner’s Castile
