So my father gave me some good ideas behind the shower debate. He told me that Showering at night is more Blue Collar vs morning being a more White Collar thing. If you have been working in the shop all day working on cars, wood, etc; you're gonna want to shower at night to get all the dirt/grim/oil/greese/saw dust off. If you wear a suit and tie when you go into work, you should take a shower in the morning to assist in shaving and smelling better throughout your work day. Just some... shower thoughts.
Yeah I agree with this. I worked in a restaurant washing dishes. I felt so grimy by the time I got home I felt like I fell in a vat of grease. Took a shower and felt like a million bucks, slept like a baby.
I’d have to agree with your dad. I used to work at Amazon in a fulfillment center. You get so gross and grimy by the end of a 10 hour shift even your clothes stank.
As a night showerer myself, a major point in favor of night showers that you didn't mention is time. I happen to have a fairly long shower routine (curly hair and shaving means longer times). If I shower in the morning, it feels like I'm on a time crunch because I have other things I need to go do after, plus I would have to get up significantly earlier to ensure I have time to do it before I go. Showering at night, on the other hand, is quite relaxing: I can take my time and don't have to worry about going anywhere or doing anything after. Showering at night is also often more appealing to women who have more complex beauty routines (skincare, haircare, etc.) for this exact reason (also helps to get any makeup off at the end of the day). Showering at night also gives my hair plenty of time to air dry, while morning showers would mean I'd have to blow dry it or have wet hair for half the day.
I have long hair, but I mostly shower in the morning or during the day (so, 3rd option here, maybe?). But I normally get up, take a walk with my dog, do some excercise (at least, lately I did more often than not), so showering in the morning washed all the sweat off etc. Also, I'd rather head into office freshly showered etc. As a child, I did mostly shower before heading to bed. That changed, when I went to the US for a year and my hostmother was showering in the morning. I just kinda picked up the habit. And it kind sticked with me. But, also, if I don't feel like showering in the morning (because, working from home or weekend) and I didn't excercise, so not sweaty, I might wait until midday to shower or early afternoon. Like, it's hot currently were I live and showering, using colder water, is just sooo refreshing and can give me a much needed boost later in the day. But the same would wake me up too much at night.
Well i have very long curly hair but i shower in the morning. I find it easier to handle my hair when it's wet and my shower time is about 9 min using conditioner and showergel so i think it's still preference
Maybe it's because I have shorter hair (but very thick), but I don't like showering at night because I have to stay up for 2 extra hours waiting for it to dry enough that it won't look like I have bedhead in the morning.
@@mandigummels I literally shave my head, no we absolutely get it. I want to take my time showering. I don't want to wake up EVEN EARLIER to rush my shower.
I’m an afternoon/evening shower taker Primary reason - I have an outdoor physical labour job, so I get very sweaty and greasy/grimy, so I get home from work, have a shower, into clean clothes, go to bed, then get up and go to work, which also allows me an extra 10-15 mins sleep instead of waking earlier to shower before work
You know what's better for stress than showering? GETTING MORE SLEEP. You absolutely sweat WAY more in the day when active than you do laying in bed in an air conditioned room. I feel nasty when I get home. No way in the world am I getting to bed without showering. Then I wake up the next day still feeling good and not needing to waste my sleeping time with something else. Really need to emphasis this because it wasn't mentioned at all. I CAN TAKE MY TIME AND I DON'T NEED TO WAKE UP EVEN EARLIER. Night is objectively better you can not change my mind.
See I don’t have air conditioning, so I have to shower in the morning. I sweat so much at night, especially in the summer, that I cannot go to work without having a shower first.
Me! I'm almost 45 and I always shower/bathe in the evenings. Sometimes in summer when I get very sweaty after mowing the lawn or something like that and have things planned afterwards I shower in the afternoon and then usually in the evenings too. I am NOT a morning person and getting up earlier just to shower would make me grumpy and irate for the rest of the day. A small wash in the mornings is fine, but don't drag me under the water in the mornings. I don't care about pseudo health benefits, but someone who tried to force me to shower in the mornings would seriously shorten their own life span! Also going to bed all sweaty every night? How much money for new mattresses do these people think I have???
Night showers team here! I have horses, when I get home from barn I am covered in dust, hay, animal hairs, mud and sweat. Even if I am not with my horses for a day, I still shower before sleep. I am night owl-just an idea of getting up earlier in order to shower make me sick 🤣 Every minute of sleep is precious in the morning for me. I can't go sleep much earlier, my peak of mental activity is between 20-23 h. I have to get up to my job at 5 am, so I am abosulely not willing to waste my time in the shower in the morning 😂
Former horse person, night person, also night showerer but mainly because of my hair, even if I were willing to blow dry it (I'm not) I still fog the heck out of the car if I drive to work after a shower, and freezing hair in the winter sucked when I was a morning shower. And it'd happen even when I had short hair, my scalp wants to stay damp for hours so it's way easier to hang it over the pillow and let it dry when I sleep.
Same ! I have two horses and have barn chores to do ! I’m filthy at the end of the day so I have to shower ! I could not go to bed without showering. I guess morning showers are for people who don’t have physical work?
I’m also a horse person and team night showers. Washing off all of the sweat, dust, and animal hair at night when I get home is so freaking satisfying and it makes me feel refreshed going to bed
Hospital employee here. I prefer to shower as soon as I get home because I work in the Dietary Department of my local hospital and I want to get all the smells of the hospital's kitchen off of my skin. This is especially true if I am going to be visiting my mother and I don't want to deal with her dogs hopping all over me.
I never thought I’d disagree with Dr Mike, but there’s no way I’m getting in my bed without showering😩 if I feel sticky in the morning I’ll take another shower
I shower at night because when I shower my entire shower routine from the moment I step into the bathroom to the moment I step out of the bathrom takes 2.5 hours 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I'm a girl so my hair care routine, my body care routine, my shaving routine, my hair drying routine - it takes sooooooo long. I can't imagine wasting 2.5 hours in the morning, absolutely not.
I don't really get all gross and sweaty during the day, but I absolutely do at night in bed. I can't imagine not showering in the morning, I'd look so gross
I started showering at night just because it worked much better with our household schedule. After a while (and understanding that, yeah, it washes off allergens, keeps the bed and pillow cleaner, etc.), I began to REALLY enjoy the fact that I get up in the morning, wash my face & brush my teeth, and I’m ready to go. It makes my mornings SO much happier!
I’m the opposite my schedule means that mornings are the best time for me to shower because night time really doesn’t work with my schedule(partly because my brothers(13 and 10) hate taking showers so at night my parents are having an argument with them over they have to take a shower 😅) Edit: I do have really bad anxiety + I rethink all social interactions I had throughout the day I tend to be awake in bed for at least an hour with anxiety before I go to sleep. I started sleeping with stuffed animals because it kinda helps(I’m going into my junior year of high school). In your experience does showering at night make it easier to go to bed?
@@AnnabethOwl Well, maybe…? Sometimes it feels like washing the day away, which is very good. But other times it’s just another step in my getting-ready-for-bed routine. If you can manage it (around your brothers and parents’ battles ☺️), it might act as a signal to your brain that it’s time to relax and sleep.
For the shower debate, I shower at night because I have low blood pressure (sometimes 80/50 at times) and when I shower in the morning, even with cooler showers, I nearly pass out rather than at night, when I've been moving around and my blood pressure is stable. It also means I shower in peace because my child is in bed and means less stress for me!
For real though, showers are super therapeutic for me and the best part about winding down at night imo. Plus I work in a warehouse, so sleeping in a cast of dried sweat and dust after each shift is an absolute nope. Team night shower!
I love that Dr. Mike has such fleshed out pros and cons for the shower debate. I take night showers simply because I waste too much time during the day with my terrible time management skills to have time in the morning, night showering is the only option 😂
I take showers at night because I have long thick hair and pollen likes to get stuck in if I go outside. Also I never have the time in the morning to take a shower because I'm busy with a lot of things. It takes me 10 minutes sometimes just to brush my hair because of how long and thick it is but I like my hair really long.
i take showers at night because i have long hair & it can dry more fully while i sleep. i've had pvc for decades & every doctor i've asked has never told me that. thanks, Dr Mike
I used to do this, until I went to change my pillowcase one day, and there was black mold on the pillow. Washing my hair in the morning does mean I sometimes leave the house with it damp, but I'd rather deal with that than sleep on mold.
Eating veggies is a struggle for a lot of people. It's good to talk about different tastes and the fact that everyone experiences food differently. It can be hard to eat well, but be kind to yourself and look for people who have the same struggles and see what's helped them. I believe in you!
I used to have an acne problem but it's gotten SO MUCH better ever since I started showering at night. It also helped with my insomnia, and improves my focus throughout the day + I'm not drowsy when I wake up in the morning because I feel ready and clean and just need to brush my teeth before I can go ahead with my day.
For me, I do both showers. I do full shower at night to remove all the dirt and allergens I got during the day, especially on my hair. Then I do a light shower in the morning (hair not washed) to make sure the sweat I accumulated during the night is washed off my body before changing clothes.
I'm probably going going to start doing this. I'm more of a night showerer but I always feel jealous of those morning showerers looking so refreshed lol.
Showering too much can damage your hair and skin, you’ll end up drying out your skin and same with your hair. Your body has natural oils it needs. If you wash twice a day then your body and hair doesn’t have an opportunity to take in those oils. So technically you’re harming your hair and body by doing that.
As a tropical nation, it is actually very common to shower at both day and night (or at least thats how it is here in malaysia). You actually get the best of both worlds. Showering with cold shower during the day right after you wake up is super refreshing. It gets your brain moving, and overall freshes you up very well for the day both physically and mentally. Being a tropical nation, its common to sweat so a lot of people also shower at night. The time people shower at night varies from dusk to a bit late at night around an hour or two before going to sleep. Night showers can help you wind down and relax after a long day. This works very well if you exercise or workout during the evening as you can clean yourself up for a clean night/sleep. I highly recommed showering at both day and night 👍
In the summer I shower in the afternoon if I've been to the beach and at night. If it's very hot and I sweat during the night, I shower in the morning too
As a tropical area people, 2 showers per day is our minimum unless you're living with air conditioner place. So we are really grossed out when someone question about taking a shower less than 2 times.
On one hand I agree that showering two times a day would be best (I would love to do that if I had the time lol), but as someone with super thick hair and excema I have no idea how I would function taking two full showers per day
I live in a subtropical U.S. state, basically in a swamp (not FL or LA state). The humidity is an average of 85%, often reaching 90%+ midday. I only shower once a day. Not sure why you'd need to twice a day regularly.
@@Nicholas-ze5vv Kinda understand your point but when you're near the equator and average temp is 35c, things kinda changed. For context, I mean Thailand
Another benefit of showering at night (for people in dry climates) is using body lotion after the shower! If I shower in the morning then I have to skip the body lotion because it makes it so time consuming and annoying to put on anything form fitting (skinny jeans, leggings, tights, fitted long sleeve shirts, etc.). Not an issue at all if I shower at night. My skin is always way softer and healthier if I routinely shower at night. Plus it just makes me sleep so much better. 😊
Hey Doctor Mike! This is the earliest I've ever been to a video. listening to the first 5 seconds alr got me rolling. Thanks for always being there for us!
I’m team….AFTERNOON shower. Lol Also re: the poppy seeds and drug test thing: Mythbusters actually did an episode on that. Jamie ate three poppyseed bagels while Adam ate a whole poppyseed cake. Their tests both came up positive and continued to do so 18 hours after regular testing. Definitely give the episode a watch if you’re int in the science behind that since they live for busting stuff like that.
im team lunch shower. i eat at my desk at home while im working and then i get 30 minutes off for lunch. saves me time after work and i dont have to get up early.
A lot of people with long hair shower at night because your hair can dry overnight and no need to use a blowdryer, which is damaging and a waste of time. I used to show at night, now i prefer to take a bath at night while watching RUclips videos. I take a quick shower in the morning (3-4 minutes) after working out but don't wet my hair then. I wash my hair separately at a moment that's convenient.
I had three straight weeks of headaches brought on by the smoke from the Canada forest fires, most days resulted in a migraine. Had a day with an 8 hour migraine that I couldn't sleep off like normal followed by a 12 hour headache. Saw my new PCP next day got on preventative medication and haven't had a migraine since. A couple of headaches still but no migraines, best thing I've done in years.
the smoke gave me a 2 day migraine and they’ve never lasted more than 12 hours. i believe i suffer more from cluster headaches. it’s really good to see someone speak about their experiences w/ the meds. i’ve only seen commercials but never actual opinions. might need to look into it in the future if it gets worse
@pinkfeet518 it is one 25mg pill every night for me and that is it. I've got another med just in case I still get a migraine but haven't needed one of them yet.
I live in a state, Arizona, where wildfire season lasts for months. Smoke headaches are common here and they can last for hours up to days. They are no joke. We haven’t had any rain for over 2 months. We’ve had one big fire already and several smaller fires. I’m fairly certain this season is going to be the worst we’ve seen in years. We haven’t been in this much of a drought for a LONG time.
Another pro to evening showers, at least for me, is mood boost. I generally am in a much worse mood in the evening than the morning, so it helps me reset and at least feel decent before going to bed. I like to shower not super close to bed though to make sure my hair can thoroughly dry beforehand
For the people struggling to swallow pills, this is something I struggled with and one thing that really helped me was to put the pill under my tongue and then swallow a bunch of water. Goes down way easier, hope this helps someone :)
I still can't swallow pills. I'm defective when it comes to anything medical. I was out of commission for a whole day when I got my Covid shot. I was having anxiety attacks for the rest of the day even after it was over.
A way i learned to swallow pills (i learned later too due to struggling with it) was to chew some bread, and just before i swallow the bread, slip the pill in and swallow everything all together- I would do this with a small piece of bread, like a bit less than a bite, and followed with drinking water. It helped train me to swallow pills-
My problem with pill swallowing was my tongue catching the pill and holding it. I used a hard plastic straw, crazy straw for us 90s kids, and it held my tongue down. After awhile, I no longer need the straw.
Hii dr.mike! I am a NEET aspirant (NEET is an entrance competitive exam held in India for getting into a med college), Trust me you have been an inspiration to me since i decided to become a doctor,, it was yoir vids that made me interested in medical field.. So,I would appreciate you giving guidance to students preparing for their exams and make a vid on how to handle peer pressure and be positive during such situations!

I'm actually super happy that someone brought up Rosacea! I had it REALLY bad about 5-6 years ago, to the point where even full-coverage makeup wouldn't hide the bumpy/tough skin. It can be agitated by certain foods (e.g. sodas, chocolate, fried foods), but in my experience it can also be caused by stress. I finally got put on the proper mental health medications in late 2018, and within six months my rosacea went away. Now I'm not sure if there's also a correlation that the medicine I was prescriped helped treat whatever actually causes rosacea or what, but I haven't dealt with that pesky condition since!
I’m totally team morning shower, to me it does feel best to have that refresh before starting my day. And morning showers are when I usually have the best hair days. Occasionally a night shower happens and it can feel cozy to get in bed right after… but morning still wins for me. Awesome video, Doctor, as always it was a pleasure to watch! Also stoked to have a new workout playlist to try!
As someone who showers at night and in the morning, I see this as an absolute win. I usually shower every night, but sometimes I take showers in the morning because they feel really nice and putting on clothes after a morning shower just feels better than putting on pajamas after a night shower. That’s just me though-
My doctor proscribed me something for my migraines thats main use was for Blood Pressure, Difficulty Sleeping, and Depression... Not only did it cut the migraines down to 2-3 every two months instead of 2-3 a week... I also suddenly felt better about myself and more social. Go figure: Sleeping well and not having to suffer all week makes a person happier overall!
I retired from medicine in two thousand and seventeen I was a c t tech and I was old school period I was so frustrated with the unethical treatments going on in the hospitals , especially the v a v a that it took me four months to realize how mad I'd been Thank you for coming on with a common sense medicine. That should have been practiced all along
My dad says that if you shower in the morning, it means you didn’t work hard enough the night before to need to shower at night. 😂 so I always shower at night now.
Night showerer here. Sometimes in the worst of the summer, if I've been outside and gotten all sweaty, it'll be an afternoon shower, but mostly, I do it at night. Among other reasons, my hair looks its best if I wash my hair at night and go to bed with it wet. It dries more slowly that way, and I wake up with amazing, smooth waves and no frizz. The other benefit, especially when you have roommates who shower in the morning, is you don't have to worry about running out of hot water. :)
Yup, the pollen comment is exactly why I shower on an evening. If I don't get the pollen off, I legit struggle to sleep because of how bad my hayfever gets. Even with loratadine to help control the symptoms, it can be absolutely miserable trying to sleep in the summer
I have terrible allergies, I typically shower in the morning though if I was doing something outside with lots of pollen I’d definitely shower after to get the pollen off. But I like taking showers in the morning since I feel grimy otherwise
It's weird for me, as a Brazilian, seeing you guys debate on whether it's better to shower in the morning or better at night. Here we take showers in the mornings, after lunch when we can, and before going to bed. Sometimes, when it's top hot we can take up to 4 showers a day
It is a first world problem I guess? Lmao. Maybe people who live is warmer climate tend to shower at least twice a day compared to people who live in a colder climate. I even shower twice during the winter when I was in Japan for 5 years lol.
Thank you! I live in Trinidad and the only time I shower once a day is if I've been in bed in ac all day. And I *still* need to shower before I go to sleep at night.
You guys ARENT using shampoo and soap and all that every time, right? Because if you are you're wasting most of it and harming your skin and hair with excessive soap! Where I live summers arent exactly mild but not nearly as hot, and I still find myself rinsing off sometimes in the afternoon or night even if I showered/will shower already. Just to get all that sweat off
I used to shower at night when I was in high school/ started college but I quickly changed to morning showers early on so I agree with you. I felt so much more ready for the day when I showered in the morning. Prescription toothpaste has a higher amount of fluoride in it. I used to sleep walk but then I started talking in my sleep instead of walking in it.
I shower whenever I feel like it. I like it in the morning because then I get a clean, fresh start for the day. At night is nice too though, like at the end of a summer day a nice cool shower to cool you off is amazing.
Without showering in the morning, I would literally die on my way to the coffee machine, cuz my morning vitality, orientation and agility resembles that of a zombie. In addition as a teacher I want to enter classroom "stage", nice, clean and energetic. Best thing at night to prepare for sleep: a good and relaxed bubble bath - and watching your content. Thx for sharing your medical advice and your hilarious humour with us - greetings from Germany ✌❤
Same! If I try to go downstairs first thing when I wake up my balance is terrible and my knees hurt so bad. I feel like taking a nice hot shower warms up the muscles after being still all night
Dr Mike you should talk about dysautonomia. I haven't seen a doctor that is a youtuber talk about it and as a person with dysautonomia and other chronic things i find it important to bring awarness of this barely known symdroms or chronic illnesses. I love your videos and i hope you do talk about this. You make my really awful days better 💌
I'm also a 🦓 and would ❤ content specific to Dysautonomia and/or POTS because the diagnostic delay coupled with being under-diagnosed or misdiagnosed is a barrier to treatment.
@@michele0324 It took the Doctors a decade to diagnosed me and they gave me 2 misdiagnoses and there was somuch gaslighting from the medical field. It got to the point where i believd i was crazy.
@@handonstark I'm sorry that was your experience. Living with something without knowing its name is awful.❤️ It took me 4 decades to be diagnosed. I figured out my diagnosis then found a specialist to formally diagnose me. Same with hEDS.

I think the shower debate just depends on peoples schedules. I'm personally team morning shower because I work a lot in the afternoon and evening. My hair is also loosly wavy and loses its hold easily, so I like to air dry and allow gravity to make it manageable
His answer to the daily migraine question was SPOT ON. I have had daily migraines since 2021, which my doctor in my previous state ignored because they "aren't isolated to a single side of your head", so they "couldn't be migraines". Got a new doctor, he immediately said they were migraines and referred me to a neurologist. Went to the neurologist, he put me on an antidepressant (Amitriptyline - non SSRI), which he said, in his words, "studies have shown it doesn't work for depression very much, but great for migraine prevention." It's been only a couple of weeks and I've seen about a 50% reduction in frequency and intensity. The only drawback of this medication for me is that I can't really miss a day, at least not until I'm migraine free for a couple of months. And its other side effects have also helped me with my chronic anxiety and sleep problems.
I’m not a doctor but I’ve had rosacea and nighttime charlie horses throughout my 54 years and would like to add to those two points. Rosacea was explained to me as bacterial. I was prescribed a topical antibiotic and it was gone by the end of the course. For charlie horses in my arches at night, I now take a potassium supplement daily and they’re since gone. (Only sporadic potassium in my average food consumption.) The art of science is fascinating, and I’m not being facetious. 🤷♀️💃👏👍
@@xMoepXx I actually take magnesium at night too but thought it helped me fall asleep. Maybe it’s helping the foot cramps too! 🤷♀️Never been a huge supplement fan for reasons like this but my diet’s poor so doing the best I can now 💃
Personally, I live in a REALLY tropical country and (as Dr. Mike and many others) I sweat a lot, so I tend to do both! Because I find showering twice a day with COLD water super refreshing. (which I do almost all year round, because we don't really have a "winter" season here, just either hot or rainy days). But, at the same time, when I traveled to London a few years ago I showered once at night with warm water, because of the cold (even after a full day of constant walking). So yeah, weather is a big factor there.
Yes, definitely And it can differ based on your physical appearance as well, because from the chat it seems as though, for many a shower must include washing your hair ,when for 3 - 4 hair types that can be extremely damaging.
i think you mean hot and rainy days, you can sweat even more with the rain as the humidity just picks up all of a sudden. Because of all the water vapour it can still be hot at night (water vapour slows the heat loss from the Sun's UV rays)
Day vs Night showers are truly a "you do you" situation. (For me, it's night, unless I need one after exercising, then it's both.) Any differences are likely to be statistically insignificant over a whole population. The best time of day to exercise is kind of the same - when it works best for you, that's the time to do it.
I took a Japanese test that was 45 minutes my heart rate was constantly 130+ and I legitimately burned 300 calories and my Fitbit counted it as exercise 😅
8:30 years and years ago when my mom was struggling with alcoholism, she was normally still conscientious of not mixing medication and alcohol, but one time she did, and she started hallucinating. Imagine, me, a teenager at the oldest, being called upstairs by my drunk mom in her bed. And she's softly giggling to herself, and points at the closet, telling me there's someone in there playing hide-and-seek. Absolutely terrifying. Thankfully nothing worse happened, but I'm begging people to please not take that risk.
The best time for me to shower is at night. I have major depressive disorder, autism, and severe anxiety (among other things) and it was a struggle to sort out what worked best. I bought artificial plants and submersive fairy lights and decorated my shower. Then I bought lavender shower steamers. The only lights I have on during the shower are my fairy lights. This gives me a quiet and soothing time before bed.
With regards to swallowing pills. I used to have a hard time with them and they would catch in my throat. I overcame this by using the following steps: 1: Take a massive breath in and fill your lungs. 2: Place the tablets towards the rear of your tongue. 3: Swallow a big gulp of water. I find that this opens the throat a lot more and gives the tablets a better chance of going through unimpeded. This took me a long time to work out, but it works every time for me. Try it, I hope it helps.
I've had issues too. For me it was all about feeling it. What I did was get yogurt, stick the pill inside (not open it), cover it so I wouldn't see it or feel it, then swallow. Eventually, I moved to V8 because of the thicker texture. Then I moved on to water. Even to this day, I take a big mouthful of water, hold it in my mouth, put the pill in so the water and tongue cushions it, and the continue drinking water, getting it down in a big gulp. Hope this may help!
for the shower thing, if I went somewhere during the day, I shower at night because I don't want to get other people's germs on my bed. If I didn't go anywhere, I'll shower in the morning because sweat when I sleep
1:03 the human muscle is, if I’m not mistaken, only attached on one end to the hyoid. And look at any mollusk they move without bones. I’m not saying the motion could be complex or useful but a deboned human (assuming they didn’t immediately die from everything) could still contract, wait for the muscle to relax, and contract again resulting in some useless writing. Not to mention, ignoring the fact it’d be crushed, the heart could still pump.
3:48 Or you could take a shower before you go to bed to refresh yourself and another shower when you wake up to wake yourself up that's what I usually do.
Everytine I see your videos, I think your knowledge is very helpful!. It is very helpful maybe not a problem or question I have but I can help someone else that I know. I’ve been hiccuping for the past hour bc I ate 2 spicy peppers and I tried the method by inhaling, inhaling again without exhaling and the inhaling again really fast and really hard it actually worked tbh 😂
As a Brazilian, when I see heated arguments on whether to shower in the morning or before bed, I can’t help but wonder: DO THEY KNOW THEY DON’T HAVE TO CHOOSE? 🤔 Guys, please don’t go to bed without a shower, especially when you’ve been in public transportation and all out and about the whole day 🤢 And also please don’t go to work in the morning without a shower, especially when you’ve been sweating all night long and you will also share public transportation and a workplace with others 🤢 That’s the way to go. Hope it helps 🫠
@@sophienachbaur6516 I respect the argument that it MIGHT not be good for your skin (very subjective and it depends on a lot of factors), but nobody will convince me that they’re too busy to take two 5-minute showers a day. It may take longer if you’re washing your hair, but generally speaking 5 minutes is more than enough, and absolutely nobody is that busy.
As a disabled person, sometimes a 'five minute shower' isn't that easy. It takes considerably more energy, and people should shower as needed to feel clean. Seems pretty condescending to decide what other people have time or energy for.
I was at a coffee shoppe years ago & a girl came in that lost her job because of a drug test. The girl knew her because she came in everyday for a coffee & a muffin. A poppyseed muffin. She had an attorney to help fight the dismissal. Maybe an occasional muffin won't show but frequently does.

Not sure why, but it doesn’t happen at night. Plus I love it when I wash the sheets, make the bed and take a shower all on the same night. It is a glorious time known as “clean body, clean sheets.” That’s always a great night of sleep. 😆
Yes! My sheets are in the wash right now and I always shower the day I change them. Been waiting a couple weeks for a good day to do both, actually. (That is, waiting to give the sheets their biennial wash while still showering regularly.)
So one thing i read about showing at night, is that you might want to change your sheets more often. Because you are trapping moisture under your blankets which causes bacteria to build up.
About this whole morning/night shower debate.... I shower in the afternoon usually... 😅 I dislike taking a shower in the morning, while i'm all grogy, and at night, it takes a long time for my body heat to dissipate after a shower and the shower wakes me up, so I can't take a shower just before bed. So for me, I usually take my shower during my afternoon break. (Work from home is awesome)
There are two kinds of jobs; the kind where you shower before going in to work, and the kind where you need a shower when you get home. 😁 Different people have different types of day, and different needs when it comes to when they need to be cleanest. There's also nothing wrong with showering more than once a day, if needed, or skipping a day if not. Why is this even a debate at all? 😆 *By the way, I love Bear's punkrock hairdo! 🤎🐻🐾
Hi dr mike!! I love your videos! They never fail to entertain me when I’m feeling down. This is the earliest i have ever been. Thank you for all of your funny videos!! Keep being the funny and cool doctor you are.
Personally, I feel disgusting if I shower in the morning and not at night. Granted, that’s the only time I have to shower, as a student.
Ikr
Me too and sad I never shower in the morning I do not have time as a student
So my father gave me some good ideas behind the shower debate.
He told me that Showering at night is more Blue Collar vs morning being a more White Collar thing.
If you have been working in the shop all day working on cars, wood, etc; you're gonna want to shower at night to get all the dirt/grim/oil/greese/saw dust off.
If you wear a suit and tie when you go into work, you should take a shower in the morning to assist in shaving and smelling better throughout your work day.
Just some... shower thoughts.
Makes a lot of sense!
Never thought of it like that.
Wise man!
Yeah I agree with this. I worked in a restaurant washing dishes. I felt so grimy by the time I got home I felt like I fell in a vat of grease. Took a shower and felt like a million bucks, slept like a baby.
I agree completely. Depends on type of work one does.
I'm as blue collar as blue collar can get, I'm a truck driver and I shower in the morning.
Yes thank you! HAIR is the main reason I shower at night. If you don't have a lot of it, you don't get it 🤣
I have long hair, but I mostly shower in the morning or during the day (so, 3rd option here, maybe?).
I’m an afternoon/evening shower taker
Primary reason - I have an outdoor physical labour job, so I get very sweaty and greasy/grimy, so I get home from work, have a shower, into clean clothes, go to bed, then get up and go to work, which also allows me an extra 10-15 mins sleep instead of waking earlier to shower before work
You know what's better for stress than showering?
@@1402kiki you do both?
@@1402kiki That's a shower at night and morning situation

All the people that shower at night STAND UP!

Same here, also a horse person and my peak time where I feel the greatest physically and mentally is around 8-12 at night. It’s so peaceful at night

I don't really get all gross and sweaty during the day, but I absolutely do at night in bed. I can't imagine not showering in the morning, I'd look so gross
Better yet, let’s shower morning and night! Best of both worlds!
I’m the opposite my schedule means that mornings are the best time for me to shower because night time really doesn’t work with my schedule(partly because my brothers(13 and 10) hate taking showers so at night my parents are having an argument with them over they have to take a shower 😅)
Edit: I do have really bad anxiety + I rethink all social interactions I had throughout the day I tend to be awake in bed for at least an hour with anxiety before I go to sleep.
I cannot sleep if I don't shower before bed. I feel so gross in my covers if I don't.

Same for me, I get so so tired after showering.

It makes me feel refreshed before bed and I also don’t do great in the morning😂

I used to do this, until I went to change my pillowcase one day, and there was black mold on the pillow. Washing my hair in the morning does mean I sometimes leave the house with it damp, but I'd rather deal with that than sleep on mold.
You have to fully dry you hair with an hairdrier before you go to bed, or you might develop yeast

Someone like me 😂😂
I also do this but my hair gets so greasy during the night so I might change
exactly me as well!
For people with allergies, it is often suggested to shower before you go to bed to keep allergens at bay.
Can confirm it makes a big difference. Also helped my acne by washing my hair before bed!
People always judge me for showering in the Morning. But i love it.
Same In india
Same in Panama!
In the summer I shower in the afternoon if I've been to the beach and at night. If it's very hot and I sweat during the night, I shower in the morning too
Here in SE Asia, you'll smell and itch if you don't shower regularly. It's like we're in a constant free trial for Hell 😂
Right, like how come it's a debate?
As a tropical area people, 2 showers per day is our minimum unless you're living with air conditioner place. So we are really grossed out when someone question about taking a shower less than 2 times.
Very interesting!
In some parts of the world, showering daily isn't even necessary because it doesn't get too hot and it's not humid
Dr. Mike, make a morning vs nightime shower poll and let's settle this once and for all!
Agreed 💯😂
Another benefit of showering at night (for people in dry climates) is using body lotion after the shower! If I shower in the morning then I have to skip the body lotion because it makes it so time consuming and annoying to put on anything form fitting (skinny jeans, leggings, tights, fitted long sleeve shirts, etc.). Not an issue at all if I shower at night. My skin is always way softer and healthier if I routinely shower at night. Plus it just makes me sleep so much better. 😊
Same!
Omg I was thinking that same thing but didn’t know how to do explain it!!
5 min shower at night, 5 min shower in the morning. I find it helps me sleep better and I find my morning to be a lot better mentally after showering.

I do this too! I do also sometimes swallow pills dry, tho.

This is the correct answer. I shower at least twice a day but if it’s summer I shower 3-4 times a day.

Doctor Mike, I love starting my day with one of your videos! I learn something and I'm entertained. How cool is that?
Gotta love these RTC videos man! These are so informative yet relaxing and also funny in a way that makes my day better. Thank you dr.mike❤
Not a problem at all. Being in a Tropical country, I take shower 2-3 times a day, early morning-noon-night or morning-night before sleeping.
I shower both at night and in the morning. Beat that Dr. Mike 😤
Living with something without knowing its name is awful.❤️
It took me 4 decades to be diagnosed. I figured out my diagnosis then found a specialist to formally diagnose me. Same with hEDS.
Thank you for answering these questions. Sometimes we have these burning questions. Your answers are so insightful. And they are funny always. Keep up the great work on the videos. And we all love Bear. 🐕
i love u Doc, u make my day. ur a natural.
Once again Dr. Mike uploads yet again another fantastic video! Leep up the good work!
I think the shower debate just depends on peoples schedules. I'm personally team morning shower because I work a lot in the afternoon and evening. My hair is also loosly wavy and loses its hold easily, so I like to air dry and allow gravity to make it manageable
I love the Q and A format today. I always learn something new.
Same for me. Hope you're doing great
I’m not a doctor but I’ve had rosacea and nighttime charlie horses throughout my 54 years and would like to add to those two points. 🤷♀️💃👏👍
Quinine water is often thought to help with muscle cramps/charlie horses. As is an increase in potassium and magnesium. And in some cases sodium.
Magnesium helped me a lot with the cramps :)
@@xMoepXx I actually take magnesium at night too but thought it helped me fall asleep. Maybe it’s helping the foot cramps too! 🤷♀️Never been a huge supplement fan for reasons like this but my diet’s poor so doing the best I can now 💃
I did not expect a sequel to the shower debate, lol. I appreciate the pros Dr. Mike laid out for morning showers, but I'm still team night shower!
Yes, definitely
And it can differ based on your physical appearance as well, because from the chat it seems as though, for many a shower must include washing your hair ,when for 3 - 4 hair types that can be extremely damaging.
Well mine is even more tropical (Maldives)
@@lukeliam6614 nothing is more tropical than the equator (Malaysia/Singapore)
i think you mean hot and rainy days, you can sweat even more with the rain as the humidity just picks up all of a sudden. Because of all the water vapour it can still be hot at night (water vapour slows the heat loss from the Sun's UV rays)
Thank you for raising awareness for Lupus!
Omg thats so scary, I couldnt imagine that happening to effectively a child. I hope your ok
I just shower at both night and in the morning. Just feels good before I go to bed and after I wake up
Hey Mike! Please do an Indian medical exam (NEET) review! It'd be really fun to watch! Loads of support from India 🇮🇳
With regards to swallowing pills. I used to have a hard time with them and they would catch in my throat. I overcame this by using the following steps:
1: Take a massive breath in and fill your lungs.
I think it's personal preference with what time a person showers. Do what makes you feel more comfortable. It's not going to do any damage either way.
for the shower thing, if I went somewhere during the day, I shower at night because I don't want to get other people's germs on my bed.
It is very helpful maybe not a problem or question I have but I can help
someone else that I know. I always go online when I find a health issue for a family member or myself. You keep yourself fun that it makes
you interesting to listen & watch. Thanks for making me laugh, nice job?
I’ve been hiccuping for the past hour bc I ate 2 spicy peppers and I tried the method by inhaling, inhaling again without exhaling and the inhaling again really fast and really hard it actually worked tbh 😂
As a Brazilian, when I see heated arguments on whether to shower in the morning or before bed, I can’t help but wonder: DO THEY KNOW THEY DON’T HAVE TO CHOOSE? 🤔
Guys, please don’t go to bed without a shower, especially when you’ve been in public transportation and all out and about the whole day 🤢
And also please don’t go to work in the morning without a shower, especially when you’ve been sweating all night long and you will also share public transportation and a workplace with others 🤢
That’s the way to go. Hope it helps 🫠
sim!!!!!! essas discussões são tão fora da minha realidade kkkkkk no mínimo um banho de manhã e um a noite!
Some people do but it takes up a large amount of time and can increase water bills.
Not everyone has the time and money to shower twice a day. It can also be bad for your skin if you shower too much.
RTCs are the best videos
I was at a coffee shoppe years ago & a girl came in that lost her job because of a drug test. The girl knew her because she came in everyday for a coffee & a muffin. A poppyseed muffin. She had an attorney to help fight the dismissal. Maybe an occasional muffin won't show but frequently does.
How about showering both morning and night... I absolutely enjoy all your content Dr Mike
that's what I was thinking. A quick shower in the morning, then a normal shower at night.
@@love_nyc_ geez I'm a girl but what you just mentioned is like my weekly routine. I can't imagine shaving everyday not to mention if I washed my hair everyday I would end up going to school with wet, super curly/messy hair.
I’m on team nighttime shower. 😂 I think this comes from growing up in a family of 8 with only one small bathroom. We had to take turns. Also when I take a shower in the morning my eyes burn.
1:36 me too 🙂
So one thing i read about showing at night, is that you might want to change your sheets more often. Because you are trapping moisture under your blankets which causes bacteria to build up.
About this whole morning/night shower debate.... I shower in the afternoon usually... 😅
I dislike taking a shower in the morning, while i'm all grogy, and at night, it takes a long time for my body heat to dissipate after a shower and the shower wakes me up, so I can't take a shower just before bed.
So for me, I usually take my shower during my afternoon break. (Work from home is awesome)
Team morning!🎉
Cold showers helped me with my eczema. Especially living in a tropical country showering is definitely advised
I love how Doctor Mike said “Esparagusei” I think he got it from “Bronchioles” and “Bronchi”
*By the way, I love Bear's punkrock hairdo! 🤎🐻🐾
3:54 that’s why I take showers both in the mornings and night
Hi dr mike!! I love your videos! They never fail to entertain me when I’m feeling down. This is the earliest i have ever been. Thank you for all of your funny videos!! Keep being the funny and cool doctor you are.
SHOWERING IN THE MORNING IS ALWAYS THE FIRST THING I DO!!! IT JUST HITS DIFFERENT
