Dog Treat Recipe ©Gardenfork Media LLC
1 medium sweet potato
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup whole oats
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
preheat oven to 350F
poke 4-5 fork holes into sweet potato, microwave for about 8 minutes, or use the "bake potato" setting on your microwave. let the potato cool before handling it!
mix the two eggs together in a small bowl, set aside
remove the sweet potato from the skin and mash with a fork
add the dry ingredients together with the mashed sweet potato
add in then eggs and milk. you want a thick dough that isn't sticky, you may have to adjust the amount of milk.
flour a board and roll out the dough, you don't want a sticky dough
roll out to 1/2" or 1/4"
cut out dog treats with cookie cutters or a glass or a tuna can or just use a knife to cut out whatever shape you like.
grease a sheet pan with cooking spray, butter etc. put the dog treats on the pan
pick up the leftover rolled out dough and form it into a ball again, and roll it out into a sheet, and cut more dog biscuits
bake for 30 minutes or until slightly browned on top.

We were told by our vet not to give our dog so much wheat, to use brown rice instead. Would brown rice flour work as well as the wheat flour? I would like to make these for our Kipper.
Hi Linda, did your dr. Tell you why not to give your dog wheat?
I just made treats for my dog, she is a chihuahua, and used whole wheat and all purpose flour, she loved them, but I don't want her to get sick.
Thanks if you can respond.
@@noraparra8029 Whole wheat flour nor is all purpose flour, healthy for human nor doggie consumption. It makes them, and us, fat. Also, it's not good for people with celiac disease. Just fyi.
@@candlenthedark2955 thank you, I made her treats with oat and rice flour, I hope I got it right this time, my dog is 12 years old and I don't want her to get sick, I had 3 dogs that lived 16 years each and I hope Mia lives longer .thank you again, please stay safe.
@@candlenthedark2955 thank you, I made treats with oat and rice flour, carrots, zucchini, eggs, sweet potatoes and applesauce, Mia loves them and I hope I got it right this time, I don't want her to get sick or fat, she is 12 years old, thank you again, please stay safe.

Hello :-) Thanks for a realistic and family orientated video - was such a nice feel to watch you guys interact together .... I wanted to ask if you would post a video making bisucuits for dogs who have allergies to wheat / grain / dairy ... I know it doesnt leave a lot of options - but something like sweet potato and honey with cranberries in a bake or something ? Would be marvellous x

Nice recipe - thanks for sharing - one request though - in your recipe you put the cooking time for the sweet potato in a microwave - any idea of what the times should be for those of us still in the 19th century that don't have a microwave? Thanks
google it , i think its the same as a baked potatoe once they are soft to put a fork through ???
Can you use regular flour?
Also a pizza wheel is good for cutting this kind of dough.
Can you use silk almond milk?
How do you store the dog biscuit?
Lorraine Sardone put them in the freezer

Found Evanger's Brand, Grain-free 100% Sweet potato's in 13 oz. cans. All natural, contains Beta-Carotens and Vitamin C for antioxidants, Manganese, Copper, B6, Potassium, Iron and disease-fighting fiber. Many of these nutrients are also anti-inflammatory. I also use Arrowhead Mills Organic Gluten Free Brown Rice Flour. This can be found in most stores.

Hi, I just found your recipe. your dogs are adorable by the way, including the Lab! I'm going to use buckwheat flour (no gluten, at all) instead of whole wheat flour, which I was told, isn't good for dogs or people! I know my 3 dogs, Mercy, Sarah and Eli will absolutely love these ~ especially the sweet potato! Thank you sooo much! Valerie
Thank you!!
with milk and egg in this dog treat do they have to be refridgerated after baked. I have 2 terminally ill children we are starting a non profit baking business and all proceeds with go back to our 3 local charities for medical fragile children . I'm researching trying to find the healthiest , tasting dog treat. do we have to do anything by law to sell our products
most pups like sweet potatoes, give it a try and let us know, eric.
This is much cheaper than the store bought. I am in doggie heaven! :D
annette brent great to hear annette! thanks for watching, eric.

ehh,,Christmas is starting early this year :)
Very nice video to start my day.
Love your show!!
Like your wife,,i also don t want to be in the picture in my videos :)
is this a sweet potato or yam? i thought sweet potatoes were white-ish and yams were orange-ish?
Add Brewer's yeast and they will repel fleas.
The random gamer
I'm sure the poodle will live them I have a yorkie/mini poodle and he loves them
Does it have to be whole wheat flour?
its best that way, yes.
Nice
We had a dog, who is now sadly no longer with us :'(, and we would feed him vegetables and pasta on it's own with no sauce...he loved it! The only thing was that he would systematically remove the carrots from the mixture and put them on the floor, then when he was finished with the rest of his dinner he would eat the carrots one-by-one. I never understood why he did that???
The best comes at least :)
TheCosmeticFreak So true!
2-23-2013 FYI as of this date King Arthurs' flour has a recall on their flours... check out their web site all the type are listed. round plastic blue balls (oops) found in their flours.. used during the sifting process. Check out all your KA flour please before you use it.... thia is NOT a joke...different lot numbers.
Here is a really easy peanut butter recipe- mix together a cup of milk with a cup (or more) of peanut butter then in a SEPARATE bowl mix together 2 cups of flour, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of baking powder. Bake for 15 mins on 350. Enjoy!
McKenzie Song thanks for the dog treat recipe, have to try that out! eric.
Super fantastic recipe...beautiful dogs, except for the back seat driver.
I dont have any o en can i fried it thou
i don't think the dog treats would be good fried. if you have a toaster oven, that would work for these dog biscuits. thanks, eric.
Great recepie. Thank you. If you take the time to make home made treats, avoid the microwave. It changes the molecular structure of foods and harms your dogs health. The same applies for humans. Any vegetable used can be cut into small pieces and boiledl in water. It only takes from 5-7 minutes.
I must point out that I enjoy your videos very much!!! :)
Dogs are not suppose to have oatmeal it’s not good for them can you leave the oatmeal out. My dog only gets all natural stuff no grains
could you use chicken broth instead of milk I heard dairy isn't good for dogs
probably, but none of my dogs has ever had an issue with milk or cheese in moderation. thx!
why have to be whole wheat flour?
white all purpose flour isn't great for dogs to eat. thx!
Getting Ingredients tonight... and making tonight. Stopped all store bought dog food and treats...
you wouldn’t know the calorie amount in eat... would you. I have and 11 lb and a 13 lb Chi.
Sorry I don’t know calorie count. Moderation is good in everything 😀
By the way..... they really liked the treats...and I’m thrilled I know everything that’s in these treats...nothing that’s bad for them. Thank you!
you can eat them?!!!!?
my dog would go crazier than usual
