What I like about the end fight is that while Shifu and Tai-Long were fighting it dark and stormy, but as soon as Po arrived, the sun was shining through the clouds.
@@NiceDudeMovieNight It's actually more than that. It's Colour Theory: Gold represents Heroism in the series: in that instance, Gold light from the sunrise was symbolising Po's arrival. The Dragon Scroll is golden. Even Tai Lung's flashback was golden, until he turned into the villain. And consider all this, then look at Tai Lung's design. He has *golden eyes* because he *views himself* as the Hero claiming what's rightfully his. But if you check when he's a kitten, he doesn't have that gold in this eyes, because that view came later in his life. And notice how Tigress, who Shifu also thinks should be the Dragon Warrior, also has golden eyes and views herself the better claimant of the title, and similarly lacked the golden eyes as a cub... The colour theory really develops more in Kung-Fu Panda 2, but I'll leave that for you to see in that movie.
@@tsuumee4545 But of course! I love colour theory myself, especially when it just subtly enters the scene. Ever seen the Iron Giant? Towards the end, when certain events transpire, watch the colour of the sky :P
I love this movie! The Fight scenes are so epic its unbelievable. Also I love the shot of Thai Lung looking at the scroll with his face being reflected while saying "It's nothing", really shows that his real problem wasn't being snuffed for the Dragon Warrior title but rather that he defind himself solely by his supposite destiny of becoming the Dragon Warrior that it consumed him.
Yeah, he was so consumed by the concept of "destiny" that he never took any real control of his own life. It makes for a really interesting and kind of tragic villain!
Not sure whether I'm looking too deep into it, but I like to think from 25:03 to 25:08 was symbolic of him accepting both parts of his new life: being both the Dragon Warrior and being a noodle maker.
Blank is something that can be fill up, like a blank paper that can be draw or write over to make it better. Nothing is like you can’t replace it with anything. I love the point of view of Po and Tai Lung’s characters
What does one see when one opens the Dragon Scroll?….(it’s a mirror, so; self-reflection, psychological projection, perception, judgement) the answers for these visual metaphors are limitless, clearly why we all love this movie.
"There is no secret ingredient" is partially a commentary on other American-made martial arts flicks where there is some secret deus ex machina technique that is not only unrealistic but thematically undermines the main character's growth. Even the original Karate Kid had its special "unblockable kick" (which turned out to be a very basic and easily blockable kick you learn day 2 in most dojos). The "secret ingredient" in Kung Fu Panda is simply all the hard work you put in to be able to knock down the Dragon Scroll in the first place. It's much more applicable to real life anyhow.
My wife and I saw this on our honeymoon. We wanted to go to the movies, but there wasn't a whole lot out at the time. We picked this one because we didn't have any better options and went in with little to no expectations. Needless to say, we came out totally blown away.
I was 6 when I saw this in theaters, and it's absurd to how much time has passed since then. I would definitely be interested in seeing you guys react to the sequels, they're also really good.
One of my favorite details from the movie: In Po and Oogway's interaction, Oogway calls out that Po eats when he's upset. Then later once Po has finished his training, he refuses to eat the last dumpling because he isn't hungry, showing that for the first time he is truly happy and proud of his accomplishments.
Something i hadn't noticed until watching y'alls reaction is how full circle it comes with him realizing the meaning of the scroll that they keep the theme of food being a catalyst to his learning since he needs to hear about the secret ingredient to further his training even more. Super happy y'all did a reaction to this btw honestly one of my favorite movie series where every iteration is a solid 10/10.
8:32 "You've never seen _Bear_ Style!" This is a reference to the Furious Five, who represent five different styles of Kung Fu: Tiger, Monkey, Crane, Snake, and Mantis.

Heck yeah, saw the community post, glad to see you all enjoyed it. Highly recommend the other films. The trilogy is a whole lot of fun. And if we’re doing some of Dreamworks movies here there, other recommendations I can give are the How To Train Your Dragon movies, MegaMind is a fun ride, their first film Antz, any of their 2D films, and their most recent hit Puss In Boots The Last Wish. Seriously all good stuff imo.
@@NiceDudeMovieNight Nice. MegaMind isn’t mind blowing but imo is a fun flick and a lot better than what you would think. Puss in Boots 2 is amazing tho, like you wouldn’t think a sequel to a spin off to Sherk would be anything special, but the team behind it went all in in terms of animation, story, characters and just generally going all out to make an enjoyable movie experience, it’s legit really really good.
I absolutely love how your sponsors are SO ON THE NOSE. No subtle at all. You act as overthetop as you, stare at the camera, smile and BOOM, ad. It's such a funny gag
I'm a bit disappointed you skipped the "I'm not hungry" line. Po eats when he's sad, and he's been bullied so much throughout his life that he eats constantly. Now, for the first time in a long time, he feels proud of himself and happy with who he is. He's realized that he doesn't need food to replace good feelings.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is one of my favorite animated movies of all time. I think you guys'd love it. I know I'd like to see your reaction to it. You can take or leave the third one
Can we take a moment to appreciate Shifu? Not only is this guy capable of weaving the furious 5, but in his expertise as a master and teacher, he was able to figure out Po’s strength (food) and use it to his advantage to train the next dragon warrior from scratch. What an amazing character man
Kung Fu Panda is prolly the best example of a movie whose sequel is just as good, if not better. It is *incredibly* hard to determine if the second movie beats the first. It's definitely bigger, and deeper, and gives us more about the main character (as a good sequel should). Also, the cast in the second movie is just as stellar as the first. If you haven't seen it yet, I don't wanna spoil it, because it'd be great seeing you figure out who's who. Definitely do it, guys.
I really liked how the message of the story was incorporated in this animation. No one can feel they are too old when seeing this story, I think there is something intrinsic about this story that I cannot tell why a movie like puss in boots which came out this year did not have. Is it a more mature set of characters which made this a classic whereas puss in boots had an adult topic at its core but very child like characters. All this to say that kung fu panda is a special product for what it delivers.
One cool thing about the floor creaking at 9:09 is that was an intentional thing in China and Japan. Homes would have special floors that would intentionally creak to alert when a ninja/thief was trying to sneak around, or when children were out of bed.
The best series of lines in this movie is the characters reading the dragon scroll for the first time, the scroll being reflective. Po says "It's blank" as in unsure of what it will become. Tai Lung says "It's nothing" as in hollow and empty.
Can't wait for you guys to react to Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3! It's a big claim but I'm gonna say it: Kung Fu Panda is one of the best trilogies of all time.
You should definitely watch the other Kung Fu Panda movies. His dream in the first movie even comes true somewhat in the second which was a nice touch.

Can’t believe this movie came out almost 15 years ago. I remember watching it in theaters with my mom and when the credits rolled, I thought that this was one of greatest movies I’ve ever seen. Also, now that I’m in college, I’ve realized how inspiration the song Kung Fu Fighting is
I think a lot of people when they saw this movie the first time didn't care about Tai Lung except as a cool character because of the action, which can change on a re-watch, and looking at things from a different perspective. Tai Lung is a warrior who didn't deserve the treatment he got, he grew up thinking he'd become this legendary warrior if he only trained hard enough, and was disciplined enough, to learn everything he could, plus Shifu filled his head with dreams, pushed him in training, promising him that they would all come true if he hones his skills and abilities to the very limits, but when Oogway said NO, Tai Lung's world crumbled because it turns out that he had been struggling for so many years for nothing. He was furious and must have walked to the village because he was completely lost, or else he was telling everyone before how he was going to become a Dragon Warrior, and when he didn't become what he said he would become, maybe someone in the village angered him very easily, he was on the edge of snapping out of anger when he was rejected without an explanation, he just knew he wasn't good enough in Oogway's opinion. Later he spends twenty years in prison, immobilized, he finds out that someone is good enough, and then later he finds out that someone is good enough but is not trained, and disciplined nowhere near his level, Tai Lung is even more disappointed by seeing what was chosen instead of him. Now we don't know if Tai Lung rested at all on the way to the valley, but it seemed that he didn't, and at the end of the fight when he took the scroll and found out that what he was looking for was not written on some paper as he was led to believe, his tiredness finally caught up with him, and Po used his fat to win literally, and used this crazy move which he did not deserve, what's worse, there is no explanation or hint as to why he would know how to do this he just realized how the move works (That's what I dislike most about the movie of all things). So Po kills this tortured warrior in the end, and if you ask me, Tai Lung did not deserve such treatment, and I believe he could of gone in a better direction if anyone cared, and gave an actual chance, but no everything revolves around Po.
Fun fact about The Furious Five. Their species and specific fighting styles are based on the real martial art styles of Mantis Style, Monkey Style, Viper Style, Crane Style, and Tiger Style.
Love you guys! You guys should try and do an all-timer like ‘No Country for Old Men’ or maybe ‘The Shining’ next. Maybe the new Mad Max if you guys have watched those two already? Either way love the channel
I’m very glad they dropped the original idea for this film of being more a king fu parody w/ Po becoming cocky after being titled “Dragon Warrior”. Basically Shrek again, but Kung Fu themed.
Xiran Jay Zhao made a video analysing the Chinese cultural and philosophical inspirations in the movie and one of the things she talks about is how Shifu represents Confucianism (which focuses on control) and Oogway represents Taoism (which focuses on going with the flow of the universe) and the contrast between the two philosophies is best shown during the peach tree scene before Oogway dies
Never thought I'd live to see the day you guys see this movie! It was a big hit with the kids at my elementary school, and we had it as one of our movie nights! All of the cast consists of endangered or uncommon species, which is something I've always loved. Tai Lung, for example, is a snow leopard whose habitats are threatened and are the target of poachers. Since they live in high altitude areas, Tai Lung was already innately able to escape Chorgam Prison with ease had it not been for the chains. Master Oogway is a Galapagos Tortoise! The high-end life span of these creatures is over 100 years!
Kung Fu Panda was the first movie I saw on premiere day. The sequels are great too and this and How to Train Your Dragon remain my favorite DreamWorks movie series.
I think you need to add in a BIG ol asterisk in there on the statement "Jack Black is a great movie star for kids!" *ASTERISK* "...provided you don't let your kids see any of Jack Blacks movies or appearances that were not specifically made with kids in mind."
I love how Seth Rogen voices the badass superspeed Mantis. You all have GOT to watch The Legends of The Furious Five. It actually taught me a lot more about certain values and how they're connected.
For real!! I also loved the secret of the scrolls( If I remember it’s canon to the franchise) and I was really surprised by how the furious five meet each other and how Po start to love kung fu. Accident or Destiny? 😂
Po: it’s *blank* Tai Lung: it’s *nothing* Really helps cement their perspective and why one is actually the dragon warrior despite the other having literally been raised on it in a sense
This is the best kung fu fighting movie ever. I love that Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen and David Cross are in the movie, delicious foods, funniest moments and awesome kung fu fighting scenes 🐼🐍🐯🐵🐢🐲🔥🔥🔥🍜🍜🍜🤣🤣🤣
I didn't know this cuz I saw this movie when it came out, but apparently there's a "post credit" scene where the two eat rice buns together under a tree (i think under the same peach tree) The seed which Oogway plants in the dirt while talking to Shifu, actually gets brought up again in the TV show when Tai Lung's nephew comes into the episode. Spoilers: The peach tree did in fact 'defeat Tai Lung' metaphorically
Another couple of funny Kung Fu movies are "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist" and "Kung Phooey". The first actually has scenes from classic kung fu films that have been cleverly dubbed over to help tell the story, and the second is more of an "Austin Powers" kind of spoof to kung fu movies too! 😊
I remember when I first saw this. I was training to train others in suicide intervention. It had let out for the evening and since I was in a hotel far from home I didn't have much to do, but there was a theater nearby. I didn't have much interest in the movie, but it was the best thing playing. I am so glad I decided to see it.
The second one is also really good and has my favorite actor in it (Gary Oldman). The third one I don't remember that much about, which makes me think I probably liked it less.
I feel a little bad because Jackie Chan ACTUALLY FIGHTS, is a reference of the genre, and his character has like two lines. But those movies are so fun.

Oh! You're right! I never caught that 🤣
Is it weird that I was just as hyped for the movie as I was seeing the clip of Jack and the Saxaboom?
lollll the Napoleon dynamite clip in the AG ad. Love it
It was actually from Benchwarmers ;) same actor, though!
Fun fact about The Furious Five. Their species and specific fighting styles are based on the real martial art styles of Mantis Style, Monkey Style, Viper Style, Crane Style, and Tiger Style.
Yes, and Tai Lung is a snow leopard, which have been revered in Chinese culture for thousands of years.
I'll be damn if that sponsor moment wasn't awesome... You guys were made for this, dudes...
I like how the reaction of the Chinese is basically, “We love pandas and kung fu. Why didn’t we make this?”
Part 2 is, in my opinion, the best of the series!
I love this movie, and James Hong is just the icing on the cake.
Po: it’s *blank*
Tai Lung: it’s *nothing*
Really helps cement their perspective and why one is actually the dragon warrior despite the other having literally been raised on it in a sense
This is the best kung fu fighting movie ever. I love that Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen and David Cross are in the movie, delicious foods, funniest moments and awesome kung fu fighting scenes
🐼🐍🐯🐵🐢🐲🔥🔥🔥🍜🍜🍜🤣🤣🤣
I didn't know this cuz I saw this movie when it came out, but apparently there's a "post credit" scene where the two eat rice buns together under a tree (i think under the same peach tree)
The seed which Oogway plants in the dirt while talking to Shifu, actually gets brought up again in the TV show when Tai Lung's nephew comes into the episode.
Accented Cinema did a fascinating video essay on this movie... worth a watch.
Oogway: "I will allow myself to die now 😶🌫️"
I love how much you love what you’re watching. It makes it so enjoyable for the rest of us! Great movie, great reaction as always : )
I remember seeing this in the theaters when I was 7 and I loved the hell of it its also one my dad's favorite movies
Glad to see that Papa Franku is still being refrenced to this day!
Kung fu Panda and How to Train your dragon is PEAK Dreamworks.
Great reaction! The second one is my favorite, hope you guys eventually get around to watching that one
I remember when I first saw this. I was training to train others in suicide intervention. It had let out for the evening and since I was in a hotel far from home I didn't have much to do, but there was a theater nearby. I didn't have much interest in the movie, but it was the best thing playing. I am so glad I decided to see it.
Food is such an important element in Chinese culture and if you watch any Chinese Fung Fu cinema, you will see how much influence there REALLY is.
I forgot how golden this movie was.
i too yearn for the day when I can look at what I am doing with my life and say,
"I'm not hungry."
Yes, Jack Black was made for this role. But, that's also true about School of Rock. What a gift!
The second one is also really good and has my favorite actor in it (Gary Oldman). The third one I don't remember that much about, which makes me think I probably liked it less.
All 3 of these films are some of my favorite. So hilarious.
I feel a little bad because Jackie Chan ACTUALLY FIGHTS, is a reference of the genre, and his character has like two lines. But those movies are so fun.
I forgot how amazing the combat animation was in this film lol
Can't wait to see your reaction for Kung Fu Panda 2 !
Gotta watch the sequels now. Both amazing.
Maybe try HTTYD series as well.
BTW, that was Cee-Lo Green singing Kung Fu Fighting during the credits
I’ve seen this movie a dozen times and I loved watching your commentary. Kung-Fu Panda 2!
You guys awakened Filthy Frank Batsu games from my subconscious with that firework chair reference. I know what I'm watching after this
The bunny in Po's dream that calls him attractive was voiced by Jack Black's wife.
As to doing the rest of the franchise, one has not lived, until one has seen Gary Oldman as a peacock!
Just for Information: Shi Fu is chinese for teacher. And Oogway translates to tortoise.
Tai Lung's escape is in the top 5 movie escapes of all time.
That was C-Low Green singing at the end.
