Tai Lung's voice actor, Ian McShane, also delivers what is (in my opinion) one of the best villain-as-protagonist performances in television history as Al Swerengen in the fantastic but often overlooked HBO series "Deadwood". He should be right up there with Tony Soprano and Walter White if you ask me.

“One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it” is a personal favorite of mine because both Shifu with Tai Lung and Shen with himself fall victim to its effects
Shifu wanting to keep Tai Lung in prison thus sending someone to the prison, giving Tai Lung the feather to escape
Shen thinking his prophecy meant a panda, doing what he did, setting Po on the path of the Dragon Warrior, when he himself can fit the bill for a “warrior of black and white” and let his own cannon fall on him in the end, defeating/ending him

The 2nd and 3rd movies are also good.

The third movie was a bit weak, but the second was fantastic.
Indeed, the rest of the trilogy is now must see for you both! I'd call the third about as good as this. The second is the best of the series.

Po's dad, Mr Ping, is voiced by the absolute legend James Hong, one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood history with over 450 film and television credits to his name. His career stretches back to the 1950s, and he appears in small roles in classics like Chinatown (1974), Airplane (1980), and Blade Runner (1982). His most famous role may be as the villainous sorcerer Lo Pan in Big Trouble in Little China (1986), and some more recent roles you may know him from include Master Wong in Balls of Fury (2007), Mr Gao in Turning Red (2022) and Gong Gong in Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
He was brought up with one single thought: he is a Dragon Warrior.
Shifu always told him about it, and he believed in it, he lived it, but everything turned out differently.
He believed in his fate, but it turned out to be false, he was deceived, lost.
He is not evil, he just got lost in this world, because all his dreams were shattered, and he himself ended up in prison for 20 years.
Moreover, he has not gone mad, all these 20 years he has maintained a desire for revenge, and this is justified.
He didn't lose his form, he destroyed the prison, killed the guards and won the Furious Five and Shifu himself.
Tai Lung one of the best characters of this cartoon.
I love how excited Magy was that she recognized the right motivation for Po to learn kung fu.

I remember going to see this in theaters when I was 13 years old. It definitely had me laughing, but I also almost cried when Master Oogway passed.
Then of course my favorite heartwarming moment was when Mr. Ping told Po about the secret ingredient. There’s no secret to success. The moral is that you just have to believe in yourself. You are your greatest weapon.
And people may laugh about Po being Mr. Ping’s son, but family isn’t always about blood. Po didn’t grow up alone. Mr. Ping raised him, and that makes him his father.
I remember watching this movie in theaters as a kid. And looking back at it now. It’s still amazing.

The intro was adorable and hilarious at the same time 😂
As comedic as it is, seeing Po trying to get into the temple, it also shows his tenacity, willing to put in the effort to achieve his goal.
Tai Lung's introduction in that "supermax" prison really paints him as a terrifying villain and later on, when he escapes, it really lives up to the hype created.

Grand Master Oogway's death is probably one of the most well done ones ever, it felt so natural and peaceful, hardly a sad moment.
"To make something special, you have to believe it's special" - that's an awesome line right there.
In the end, it payed off for Po to be so round and bouncy!
Nobody's gonna laugh at you for tearing up at Master Shifu's drama queen moment, it just shows what a kind soul you have and that's something to be treasured and appreciated, not laughed at 🤗

8:33 I love that in the movie it shows Po's dad, Mr. Ping, with the door open in that last "what?" after Po spent all that time trying to get it open. 😄 Film perfection right there!

Look at it this way imagine being Tai Lung and training til your bones cracked for 20 years and mastering the 1000 scrolls and your master hyping you up throughout the whole time and not getting what you worked your ass off for and Po just gets it without doing anything

such a good movie, appearently this movie was so good that china gathered their film makers to discuss how it was possible that hollywood could make better kungfu movies than they could :D also the name of the characters is interesting, oogway means tortoise and shifu translates to master, so master oogway is master tortoise and master shifu translates to master master :) now Po is the son of Mr Ping so his full name should be "Po Ping" this appears (I could be wrong) to mean: "Po" = "break" and "Ping" translates to "level" or "average" which seem to suggest a description of character growth as he would break average level, which I think is kinda interesting :) hope you react to the rest of them also :)
not blaming ya for having shed a tear in that scene,that really looked like a character's death,but Shifu was just trolling Po and us all 😂.

Sifu represents Confuscionism, which is about order and knowing your place. Master Oogway represents Daoism, which is about going with the flow and being simplistic.
Jack Black was such a genius with his voice acting, and he did all his own stunts!

Who would’ve thought a film called “Kung Fu Panda” would be so good? It sounded like a dumb concept that I can easily make fun of. But it managed to be surprisingly great and get two great sequels, with a fourth one coming in March 2024! This is a movie with excellent humor, excellent action, and excellent characters.
You'll love the Trilogy, Magy. It's great character development for Po
Tai Lung escapes... was the dream of Oogway... who sends the bird to the prison... that causes the escape of the tai lung... full circle... That escape was one of the best scenes in any animated movie ever.
Fun fact Jack Black who voices PO is the same guy who voiced Bowser in the Super Mario brothers movie from 2023 this film other projects he did was school of rock and the live action goosebumps movie
I looked up the cast for this, and jack black is the voice of po. Jackie Chan is also the voice of monkey

The one thing I don't like is that they never mention that Sifu just refers to Po as the panda, while Sifu himself is a red panda.

This is probably my favorite Dreamworks film! It's hilarious all the way through and the ending is the most satisfying (even more with your reaction)!! Thanks and keep em coming. 😁
Tai Lung wasn't 100% mad about not being chosen as the Dragon Warrior; I think he was fueled by pure pain and misplaced rage because of the fact that Shifu didn't take his side. Keep in mind that he's an orphan and Shifu was his adopted father and mentor/possible idol, so to have who you look up to (not to mention putting in so much work just to make that persin happen) not even attempt to speak for you would hurt like a mfer. Was more or less proven when he demanded for Shifu to say how 'proud he was' about what he essentially became.
And while Shifu finally realized partial of his fault in how Tai Lung turned out, the latter refused refused to accept because I think he feels that he himself is too far gone. That he wasn't even good enough to accept an apology that he very clearly needed to hear; after that point he just retreated further into his mind and refused to let the one thing he worked hard to get go away.
So ending on this note, I feel Tai Lung wanted the scroll for power but also to be able to get the thing he'd been focused on for 20 years; he probably thought that if he had the chance to finally see what was inside, then it all wasn't for nothing and maybe he'd earn Shifu's love/approval back.
This is one of the best animated movies I have ever seen, right up there with Lion King in terms of sheer perfection. What more could you ask for from a movie?

Kung Fu Panda is one of my favorite films, and Po is one of my favorite characters. The film has so much heart and soul, and a nice message. It’s nice to have a protagonist who isn’t ripped, and has a lot of muscles. You girls need to review the next 2 Kung Fu Panda films.
On another note I must say that both of you girls are very cute 🥰, I’m sure that you have no problem attracting the attention of guys.

I must confess a certain sympathy for Tai Lung. I like to think that there is an alternate ending where he relents at the end and ends up making noodles with Mr. Ping.
Watching Master Oogway fade in the peach tree petals always makes my eyes tear up, and also I'm surprised you guys didn't realize "John Coffey's" voice in this movie.

Definitely in contention with How to Train Your Dragon for best animated trilogy, and only beaten by Encanto and a few Studio Ghibli movies for best animated movie ever, in my opinion.

Awesome Colourful Kung Fu Creatures
'Kung Fu Panda' is another delightfully entertaining flick to come out this summer. Osbourne and Stevenson do a fine job in directing. What I really liked about the film is the sincere effort behind it and its lack of pretension and use of clichés. The directors stay focused on the main story which is Po's struggle. I could really relate to Po's dream and love for Kung Fu and his disappointment and lack of faith in failing to be successful in doing what he loves. The stellar voice cast that includes names like Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross and Randall Duk Kim is impressive but it is Jack Black's show all the way, followed by Dustin Hoffman. Black's comic timing is wonderful as he provides some of the very memorable laugh-out-loud moments and he brilliantly succeeds in making Po both endearing and funny. I would never have guessed that Hoffman was behind the voicing of Shifu. The actor does an excellent job. I wish Jackie Chan had more lines. The music and CGI are good enough. There's a lot of energy. It's colourful and very appealing to the eyes and it's funny as hell. What's not to love? In my opinion, 'Kung Fu Panda' is a winner with both adults and kids.

I wanted to recommend two movies, if you haven't watched them: 'Yes Man!' and 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' they're those feel-good movies, as well as motivational.
I thought you might like them.
I know most people see this movie as inspiring, follow your dreams, believe in yourself, etc. But I see it as the opposite. You can train your entire life for something, and still be beaten by some idiot who started last week, simply because it's his destiny and not yours.

Good on you to finally (re)discover it ! This is an all-time classic, and definitely in Dreamworks top 5 movies of all times, with Prince of Egypt, Kungfu Panda 2, How to Train your Dragon, and now Puss in Boots the Last Wish.
Enjoy the 2nd one, it's even better !
(3 is pretty great too, just not as good as 2, which is the summit of the trilogy).
And the 4th one is coming soon, next year AND it's directed by the directorof Puss in Boots Last Wish ! So I'm VERY excited about it !

I liked that you understood how ridiculous Tai lung is.
He was a combat and Kung fu genius, but he was a complete idiot, when he didn't get what he wanted he lashed out at defenseless animals before going against Shifuu or Ooway since he wasn't such an idiot to directly confront them other than at the end when he wanted the roll.
In the end he also went directly against Po instead of seeking revenge against Ooway because he knew Ooway could beat him up.
It is also clear how Po really was stronger than Tai Lung because even though Tai Lung was looking for the roll instead of fighting in the beginning the fact that Po could hold him back so much shows that his skill was good and in the end when Tai Lung realizes that it is nothing the roll he tries to attack him seriously and even so Po gives him an easy beating, but this happens because when Po returns the rebound hit to Tai Lung is when he started to believe that he was able to beat him and he proved it.
No offense but i feel you are understanding nothing about tai lung
One of the points of the movie is that Shifu is NOT a perfect master and even with tai lung he did all wrong, Shifu adopted him and has forced his own dream on tai lung without ever asking is that's what Tai lung actually wanted and when Oogway said no for some supposed darkess Tai lung was disowned like all the past did't exist, and on top of that Shifu did't go to see Tai lung in jail not even one time.
Just try to immagine you work hard for your entire life to make proud the only parental figure you have and when you aren't meant to become what he wanted you to become you get disowned and imprisoned for twenty years and the man you've tried to make your whole life proud don't come to see you not even one time and on top of that you even discover that you have been replaced can you really blame Tai lung for being so angry?
The reason why Tai lung don't accept that he is not the dragon warrior it's because for his master he is nothing and becoming the dragon warrior is the only way to make the person who raised him proud

Are you telling me that I should understand that Tai Lung behaved like an imbecile, attacked normal citizens with a force that surpassed the totally normal and is capable of murdering others with just a touch of his hand because of a whim and anger because his adoptive father did not say anything in response to Oogway's decision?
We don't know if Shifu even rejected Tai Lung, what we do know is that Tai Lung attacked others because of Oogway's bad decision and that he also lashed out at Shifu himself who failed because he still saw him as his son.
Tai Lung cared little or nothing if Shifu went to see him, the only thing that mattered to him was that his personality which had already been filled with ego was not matched with the highest possible rank in the martial arts and that he was not a child to throw such a tantrum.
Even the 5 furious ones did not act as ridiculous as Tai Lung when they were not selected and although Tigress was less spoiled than Tai Lung she still had Shifu's hopes and Shifu did not go crazy.
Shifu was immature as a teacher, but it's not all his fault that Tai Lung was a jerk, immature and pathetic guy.
