Aquamarin emerged in the mid-80s as a synthpop ensemble, orchestrated by the multi-talented Georg Kleinebreil, whose roles spanned from songwriter to keyboard and guitar maestro. The group was further enriched by the talents of Jens Soffing, Frank Otto, Mario Hattemer, and the vocal prowess of Katia Ebert. Their existence, albeit brief from 1984 to 1986, marked a vibrant chapter in Kleinebreil’s career, which later flourished through his contributions to the German film industry’s soundtracks from the 90s onwards.
Frank Otto, another notable member, had a fleeting yet impactful stint with Blue System during 1987-1988. Tragically, on July 8, 2008, the music world bid farewell to Georg Kleinebreil, who passed away at the age of 45 due to a heart attack in his recording studio located in Königswinter.
Aquamarin’s legacy, though short-lived, stays true to the creative spirit and the enduring allure of synthpop during its heyday. Their music continues to resonate with fans who cherish the genre’s golden era.
