In Hearts of Iron 4, the United States have 2 resource weaknesses, rubber and chromium.
Conquering South Africa cuts off the United States from chromium, making the United States have a resource shortage that your faction doesn't have. When the United States is cut off from both chromium and rubber, then it's just a matter of squeezing the United States into an ever constricting zone, by way of snatching various island and peninsula outposts.
Once the United States are sufficiently constricted, a diversionary attack can be launched on Alaska, partly for the sake of avoiding the United States being able to use its repeatable Alaska chromium decision. Next, Nova Scotia can be attacked. Then the real attack can be launched from the south. Mexico and Florida are both good to launch from, but for some reason the AI seems especially vulnerable to a Florida attack, perhaps because Florida is far enough from the steel and oil and aluminum regions of the United States for the AI not to give great heed to what happens in Florida.

Below are budget ideas for 1936 tech and 1940 tech heavy fighters
      1936 design
2 1936 era engines, giving 25 metric tons of takeoff capacity.
Subtract 8 metric tons for the weight of a 1936 era medium airframe, leaving 17 metric tons for weapons.
Subtract 8 metric tons for 4 sets of quadruple light machine guns, leaving 9 metric tons for accessories.
Subtract 2 metric tons for the weight of 2 single machine gun turrets, leaving 7 spare metric tons of takeoff capacity.
With 1936 era tech, there's nothing else worthwhile adding.
Air Attack is 42, and combat diameter is 90% of that of a transport plane.
      1940 design
With 2 1940 era engines with a combined lift of 38 metric tons, and a 12-ton 1940 era medium airframe, 26 metric tons of weapons and equipment are allowed.
      26
-15 (3 quadruple heavy machine guns)
      ___
      11
      - 4 (2 light quadruple heavy machine guns)
      ___
      7
      -1 (self-sealing fuel tanks)
      ___
      6
-5 (1 extra medium fuel tank)
      ___
1 spare metric ton of takeoff capacity for the 1940 era heavy fighter.
Air Attack is 76. Combat diameter is 165% of a transport plane.
Summary: Better engines and better weapons tech and better accessory tech result in more powerful heavy fighter airplanes with longer ranges. In the case of the 1940 era heavy fighter design, more lift and self-sealing fuel tank tech allowed adding an extra medium fuel tank, with the self-sealing fuel tank tech thereby allowing, in spite of the extra medium fuel tank, a greater airplane Defense stat for the 1940 heavy fighter design than for the 1936 heavy fighter design.
