Vielen Dank für wieder eine interessante Strecke, auf der ich trotz 50 Jahren Sommerlaub mit GA noch nie gekommen bin. Auf der Hauptstrecke von St.Gallen bin ich nur bis Mörschwil gekommen (als da noch ein bekannter Modelleisenbahn-Hersteller war...). Den Bahnhof St.Margrethen habe ich fast nicht wiedererkannt - das waren noch Zeiten, als man über Bohlen von einem Gleis zum anderen musste und bei Ankunft aus Bregenz durch ein ziemlich marodes Zollgebäude (unter Begleitschutz).

Just one short story - I was travelling along the Toggenburg line when a young man asked me if I would change seats so that his elderly mother, who was suffering from dementia, could sit by the window. I was happy to do so, but seeing the delight on her face as she admired the lovely scenery and recognised places she knew, made the journey extra special. Seeing Altstätten SG, I wonder if you or Fabio could film a short video of the steep ride from GaÏs, which always feels like falling off the edge of the world!
Absolutely superb video! Judging by the blossom on trees this video was filmed early/mid-May 2020. Although this as during the 'lockdown' period, almost all Swiss trains were running - and there were quite a few passengers! (We also saw a British-built Double-deck bus!)

Not a joke, by the way, since my audio system on my computer is normally used for a VPO (Virtual Pipe Organ). To reproduce 16' and 32' registers, the subwoofer goes down to 11 Hz. And exactly this feature turns cab rides on RUclips into an extremely vivid experience.

Thanks for yet another ride full of detail - one that I only notice now is the step up at the platform edges in Mörschwil and Ebnat-Kappel - these must surely be recent safety upgrades for otherwise low platforms - when did the relevant rule come into force? I distinctly remember walking across tracks on wooden boards at places like Flüelen to board local trains back in the early '80s - clearly modern traffic density and safety standards demand greater segregation of the customer \m/
Low platforms are either lifted (the vast majority are already) or get these steps installed. In curves or on very low frequented stations, they keep them this way, at least for now.
I ws wondering... To me it looks like you drive almost in every part of Switzerland (or I’m really bad at the Swiss map/topography). Is it in CH the same as in NL that the train driver has to have certain track/line familiarity or do you drive all/a lot of the carriers (SBB, Thurbo etc)? Great video again btw! Enjoying it a lot :D
Yes, route knowledge is required to drive on a route. It is possible for a single driver to work for multiple companies, but my/our secret (which is not actually a secret) is that we're a little team behind all this. ;-)
There are 5 Au's in Switzerland, one in the canton of St. Gallen, one in the canton of Zurich, two the canton of Aargau and one the canton of Thurgau. "Au" is an old german word that means something like "a landscape surrounded by water".
