YummO! That's the same recipe as my farm-raised mom's. I use it for plain or "pretty" loaves, like she taught us 3 girls to make. On Monday I baked 3 different flavored loaves: a cinnamon raisin bread, an almond poppy seed bread, and an orange zest bread. They're delicious for a sweet treat with coffee. I still call them "pretty" breads, with their swirls of color when sliced.
I pray for everyone to be healthy, and to seek help, and share help where needed. We're expanding our garden, to share more produce with friends. And, we are tilling Saturday for our young new neighbors to have their first home garden. We appreciate how loving people have done good deeds for us over the years. I don't like to think about what troubles my family had from the horrible late 2009 - 2011 years.

I work at a grocery store in Chicago and the other day an elderly woman wanted 1 loaf of bread. Of course we had none my heart broke. People are panic buying leaving nothing for anybody else. Thanks for caring and sharing stay safe.

Oh hi I'm a Chicago native! I lived in the Belmont Dragon area. Then went to Schaumburg HS MANY years ago. Now I'm a little old lady living in California for 40+ years. People are panic buying here as well. I'm earthquake prepared so have lots of stored cans and items I've put up. I saw the writhing on the wall in time before the panic, so for my birthday we skipped a sit down meal and bought fresh perishable items as well as dry foods.

I live in chicago too. The panic buying is so stupid. I couldnt find toilet paper and bread. My mom went to aldi and someone grabbed a pallet of spinach and threw it in their cart. Like....why? It's going to rot before you make a dent in it

Ms. Lori, I just want you to know, I've been making your recipe once a week for months now & it never disappoints! Forget about store bought bread ever being in this house again! And my father-in-law is currently sick, I took them two loaves last week. Now that's what he's been asking for for breakfast each morning, a slice of it toasted with my homemade grape jelly.💗

You're in my thoughts and prayers for peace, comfort and understanding from God. You're right about Mrs. Lori...her kind spirit and gentle voice are calming to the soul. I made this last night and everyone loves it. So much so that it’s just about gone, only half a loaf left. I’m sure that’ll go with the leftover pot roast. It’s also great lightly toasted with homemade strawberry jelly. This was so easy to make and came together just like the video, 4 cups flour and a couple tablespoons more. I had no problems making this what so ever, and will definitely be making this again. My mom even made me write down the recipe for her. Definitely gets 5 stars from me and my family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks for a great recipe 🙂🙂🙂

For SO many years my go - to activity to deal with stress and/or anxiety has been baking. I love the process .. the results.. trying new things and tweaking recipes. I found out a long time ago that my tastes differ a bit from the norm and when I make my own I can adjust and experiment until I come up with the "perfect recipe for me" The experimentation is part of the fun as well. I have been on this crazy diet for over a year and have not been baking .. BUT ... Last week I hid out from the keto police and baked bread ! shhhh ! LOL .. It turned out SO freaking good I even amazed myself ! The thing is... it was one of those just throw stuff in and see what happens.. I should have written it all down ! HA .. I guess I will need to do it again and write things down.. in the name of science of course .. ; ] I must agree that home baked bread just BEGS for the privilege of being a invited to the BLT party ! ... Baking bread is such an enjoyable, rewarding activity .. and the end product so satisfying ! Even if it is your first try.. and you are not an expert and it doesn't turn out "perfectly" .. It WILL be delicious !! : ]

The last two weeks have proven to be chaotic, at best. I don't think times will get too tough right now, but I am already seeing that people are worried about learning to bake bread, can food and such when they've been living on restaurants and grocery stores. I'm sharing the daylights out of your channel these days to those who need a good resource to learn (when they could have learned from Momma and were too hard-headed!) and also to those who want a good resource to share instead of trying to teach everyone the old ways...we'll let you and Mr. Brown do the honors, Mrs. Lori! LOVE, love, LOVE your videos...God's richest to you and yours!

I better get the rest delivered out to the ones I promised some to, or there won't be any! SO GOOD, MRS LORI!

Lori, I just found you this year when I discovered RUclips! Who knew there was so much variety in the programming. You have become a fast favorite! Mr Brown reminds me so much of my husband, the way he really really likes your cooking, gardening and enjoying the outdoors. You make me(and I’m sure everyone else) feel like I just walked into a best friend’s home. One of the shows I watched today, you were talking about cookbooks and not buying new ones. You showed one of Loretta Lynn’s country cooking and mentioned that y’all really liked her very much! She is a favorite of mine too. She has a way of singing and talking that is very homespun. I’ve heard you say before and again today that you are an old soul. My friends have heard me say that forever. I’m stopping now because I feel like I’ve known you forever. I’ve been using some of your recipes and have gotten many good tips on canning and stuff. May God richly bless you and Mr Brown always. Rosie Oliver in Webster, Tx.

Hey Lori, thanks so much for this recipe. I could not find any bread in the grocery store. My son is still working the in local Nissan plant and needs to fix his lunch to take with him since the cafeteria is closed during the plant shutdown. I made this recipe and it turned out perfect for a sandwich loaf. Thanks to you, I was able to make sure he had a good lunch during the shutdown. God bless you and Danny too. We love ya!

I also put melted butter on top before baking.. A lot of people use and egg wash , but I much prefer the butter .. in this instance. I also put some melted butter on top after it comes out as I like a soft crusted bread. Really enjoyed the video.. and the bread looks DEE LISH ! : ]

Ms. Lorie, this Mrs. Laurie writing to you. I make a similar bread. Except mine uses 7 cups of flour. 2 1/2 warm water. 2 pkgs of yeast. Bloom it in the water with 2 TBSP of sugar. 1/4 c of olive oil 1TBSP kosher salt. Mix it all together in a stand mixer. Oil a large bowl and place the dough in it cover it for 40 min. In a warm room 70degrees is best. After 1st rise cut and separate and place them in bread pans and cover them. I use 4 pans for 4 loves. Let them rise for another 40 min. Then 400 on the oven for 15 min. Then take out and brush on cream to brown the bread. Put back in for another 15min. After bread is done. Cool and eat. It is soft bread too. My Mr. Loves it. I can make olive bread with this recipe too. Love you.

It felt like what I imagined yours did when I was watching the video. You've baked a lot of bread, so I know you get what I'm trying to say. I have a feeling this will be a keeper recipe.

Thank you Lori. I made this today for my neighbors who could not find any bread when they risked their lives and went to the grocery store. So sad. I also stared them a bread starter. 2 cups of flour 2 cups of water one package yeast. And you feed it. Alway will have yeast this way. Some people have been know to have this starter for decades. Alway need to be prepared.

I have made this bread before and it was great and I am making it again as well as listening to your video and I put in 4 tablespoons of butter because that is what I thought I heard 4 1/2 tablespoons, put it in and then I looked at the recipe and it said 1 1/2 teaspoons. I keep going and it pulled away from the bowl and I figured a little extra butter would not hurt. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes. The bread was so good. I just had a sandwich. I even put the pan with water in it this time and the bread is so soft.

Lovely. I made a loaf a long time ago and I made it without yeast, and it was really nice. I tried to make it with yeast one time and it didn't come out right. I find yeast hard to work with. But I love it how it makes the bread rise. Thank-you for sharing your recipe. Hugs to both of you.
