  • We take you through one of the most rewarding performance upgrades you can perform on your LS 6.0L engine as we prepare our engine block for new race heads (CNC ported Higgins Race Heads). Installing new race heads can improve compression, increase flow performance and allow you to fit enhanced valve spring hardware to support high lift camshafts in your quest for big horsepower. Cleaning and preparing the engine block is important to remove head gasket sealant residue and to ensure your new race heads fit with no leaks. We also show you how to remove carbon from the piston crowns and clean the cylinder bores. We will shortly be installing the heads and camshaft with target power output in excess of 500hp normally aspirated.

    Glad to hear you're getting the heads shaved to bump the compression up a bit. The L98/L77 only has a weak 10.4:1, compared to 10.7:1 on the LS3 and 10.9:1 on the LS2. Holden really did everything they could to hold back the L98/L77, as if the the factory 200/208 .472/.479 cam didn't already hold them back enough 🙄

    I hope you can get that compression up to 11:1, should bark very nicely with a grumpy cam. Can you use a thinner head gasket for a bit of extra compression?

    I found acetone removes that black head gasket stuff without needing to scrape it

      G'day, oh really, good to know. I did use acetone to remove some serious gunky gaskets on the heads off an LS1 a few years ago. Thanks for watching mate.

    Been watching this build closely. Are you going to use head studs?

    • @ClunieGarage
      @ClunieGarage  3 года назад +1

      G'day Tom, we will probably just go with ARP bolts. No plans for forced induction so we don't really need studs at this stage.

      G'day Shak, we will be talking with Higgins to work that out. We are looking for a big bump in compression so will be interesting to see. Will need to match the head shave with our cam selection.

    I’m just getting full rebuild of my l98 has oil pressure issues I heard that gm cam bearing walk in the jernals change to power bond better design what you think

      G'day mate, we have seen cam bearings 2 and 3 be particularly problematic on L98 and L77s. Best to change these when doing a cam replacement for safety sake.
