For doing the sleeve cuff, or any cuff for that matter, … at the end of your sleeve, just decrease by single crocheting the first row, then do a single crochet decrease every 2 or 3 stitches until you get to about 24-26 stitches. That makes a good sized cuff. You can always just crochet the cuff on by using a half double crochet front loop, then half double crochet back loop, or (DBL) till your cuff is the size you want. No extra stitching. Also, instead of single crocheting your 2 back panels together, you can always just slip stitch them. Less bulk. Its nice to see younger people keeping crochet alive and making garments! 🎉😊

This is exactly how I make my patchwork cardigans. The first one I made was individual squares and took months. My most recent one that I made at the beginning of the year, crocheting whole panels, took me a week. A WEEK. so much easier and far les taxing.
Ikr!! Just a tad more planning and it speeds the process up by weeks
Also way less ends to sew in.
The patchwork has its perks, though, if you’re looking for projects that you can easily work on in class or on the go :)

I have been crocheting for over 40 years but when I saw this I ran right out to buy more yarn I just have to make this! Finally a project for myself! Thank you!!! But have decided to make one in black, red, maroon and white with skulls instead of mushrooms for my goth daughter for Christmas. She’s gonna love it.

I’d make as panels automatically.. like you said.. too many pces.. common sense / or due to being a knitter too.. I’d just add as I worked and reduce the sewing.. mainly for a much nicer look .. but, each to their own!
@@susanvanderbilt358thats definitely a knitting thing, before i even started crocheting squares, my thoughts were how to apply the new knowledge to crochet panels. Common sense doesnt exist, because whats common one time and place, might not be for another time and place.
im SO happy. I saved this video on Nov 11 and very slowly started on this.. today i am done with the panels! 🤩 I put my own twist on it.. pastel with kitties instead of mushrooms. The Catigan will be possibly jank, but im so excited to complete it! 😻

My colours are (Stylecraft Special Aran): Mocha, Khahki, Camel for the squares; Mushroom and Copper for the little mushies, and I was going to use the copper for small edging details and joining.

just finished making this cardigan!!! I decided against making the mushrooms in the end cuz I actually loved it just like this!! This was my first ever crochet project and I am absolutely in love with it!! I adjusted the sleeve panels to be 3 squares across, due to having thicc upper arms and wanting it to be oversized and it's so comfy!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I had a lot of fun making this and I am so incredibly proud of it!!! Additionally, this was great for my ADHD, since changing colors made it interesting for me to continue, instead of making so many individual solid color squares!!

I am making my first patchwork cardigan and watching youtube videos on different methods while I stitch. I hadn't seen anyone do it this way and I think it's great. I am doing strips to sew together because individual squares sounded like a nightmare. I like your method even better.

Wow this is definitely much easier. I want to make a Tanjiro cardigan and one person that I've seen make one used this techic. The only difference is, for the back panel, she seperated the back in stripes and then sewed them. I'll try it your way by make two blocks of two rows and them make a single stripe to sew them all together. Thanks for the help!

I made this cardigan as a knit. It looked awful and super dense so I remade it by knitting long strips. 10/10 would recommend

Yeah it does get overwhelming a but! But I don't like sewing squares together too much so it's a good tradeoff
i swore i would never make another patchwork cardigan because it just took SO. LONG. but i honestly might try this way in the future, it seems so much less painful than making individual squares and then being trapped in sewing purgatory forever lol
Yes that's 100% correct. I really didn't want to make the 3rd one after the first two with all the sewing. But now I'm about to make a 5th one with no fatigue afterwards!

I really love the concept of this. As someone who crochets a lot I’ve made my own versions of this with modifications that better suit me. My one main suggestion for this video would be to give out the hook size you are using. I had to guess and ended up deciding in a size K or 6.5 mm hook because I thought it work best. I made another one for my friend with a size J or 6.0 mm hook and it’s vastly different in size. If you’re going to be giving out stitch counts and such, hook size matters as well as dimensions of the finished product typically. Still a great video though.

At 36:54 ...I noticed that you have a green against green and gold against gold on side seams. I'm thinking now that squares of white and gold houndstooth could be added to this sweater pattern to avoid that...
As I'm dictating voice to text, you discover the sleeve inside out. It sounds like something I'd do...but I'd prob'ly already have the ribbing in!
By the way, I suggest to everyone, when doing the half double crochet back loop only, in a patchwork with a more solid, less vertically stretchy stitch to go down 1 size of hook and crochet a little tighter... Close to the bone, if you know what I mean.

i feel so weird in crochet spaces where pretty much everyone universally hates sewing, and here i am, also sewing in my free time
I never learned to sew so it's mostly because it hurts my back

Well I learned to sew early on n even won costume contest for things I made so Im not against sewing. I only been really crocheting the last few years although I learned at 21 the chain n single crochet. Now I can do amigurumi n I'm in the middle of making a purse. Decent posture helps for back pain. Although it's nice to sit higher up it's bad for crochet n sewing try to sit lower than your table if you can. For crochet specifically if you can get a table to reach you or have a pillow on your lap even a boppy that fits around you (pregnancy pillow) I heard those work wonders so your not leaning toward or over. So basically have your project come to you instead or you leaning to it. I really hope this helps

I'm not sure actually. I think best results would be to have consistent stitch heights

I'm 5' (152 cm) and this will be the very first clothing project Im attempting to make. Is your "shorter version" good for me or should I go shorter, and if so. How? Never attempted anthing like this so I don't know how to make the math mathing 🙈
I think the shorter version would work! It might have an oversized look if you're okay with that

The same way you do all the other ribbing!
You could have used the mushroom square turned 90 degrees so it would be upright when the arm is down and still look good with movement.

I like sewing so sewing the blocks together wouldn't bother me, also if you want a mushroom on the sleeve just turn the mushroom around so it's up and down.

I think your best bet would be to take an oversized cardigan you own and measure it and work from there

I kept seeing this video and wondering why the one on the left was “wrong”, especially since I like the color scheme more 😂 but now it makes sense! Work smarter not harder. The way you did the color switching was well planned, I always get confused with how to carry my yarns when switching colors like this, but you made it make sense 👍

how did you do the math of sizing it for someone lese? i’m quite overweight and doubt i’d fit into it as is, but the math is so overwhelming to me lol
I usually don’t do math. I just measure a similar item that fits me. Then I guesstimate how big a square would be on the item I use as references and do a row of single crochet that comes to the lengths of my guesstimated squares. Then I count those stiches. Hope that makes sense
Is hounds tooth like the moss stitch?
Not exactly. Moss stitching is ch 1, SC 1 and houndstooth is SC 1, DC 1

where was this tutorial BEFORE i crocheted 36 individual squares that i ended up joining just to hate the end result 🥲 i’ve now frogged half of it to use the yarn for another project instead. i will save this video for the day i end up making a patchwork cardigan that i’ll actually like and wear 🥰

I started a patchwork cardigan because I figured "I'm new to crochet and I'm just making squares for practice so why not make a practice project right?" and as much as I tried to keep that "it's just for fun and practice it doesn't need to be perfect" mindset I've gotten so tired of working on it :(
the bones of it are done I just need to make the ribbing and sleeve cuffs and really *finish* it but it's just so heavy and I'm constantly worried that I didn't stitch it together right and it's just gonna fall apart and it looks so janky and just dfgsdfh
I planned it out as best as I could and I wanna finish it just to say I finished it but it just makes me so sad to look at
I feel that. But the best way is to just do it! All of my projects look janky if you look close enough so no one will notice

@happyplant8439 I've had mine for a bit under a year and there is some fuzz bit minimal pilling. Hand washing is best for me

I found the arms way too small, increased the stitch count to 30 (+1) for these squares and made 5 blocks of colour).
I don’t see why it would take that much more to do it the little squares method versus the panel method but it would probably be easier to store and work on is discrete squares thing. Had to make a sweater in panels. I can tell you I’d work on that thing for months for each panel and honestly I lost interest I made two afghans that way and I meant to make a sweater And it literally never got finished. It’s been in my storage for about 15 years. I have no desire to go back to it but yet I do find that I’m making granny squares for now. A new project so granny squares. Yay hole heavy panels definitely no.
Sorry but I like the brown and green one better.
