Agreed, there was another young man who sounded like Layne Staley and Scott Weiland put together. His name was Leon Busby and he died from an overdose way too young. He didn’t realize the gift he was given and wasted it. I had the privilege of playing guitar in a band with him, it was hard not to just stand there and watch and listen to him instead of play guitar. RIP Leon

I sure hope he develops his own unique style (which will inevitably happen over time if he continues to write his own music), and he stays the hell away from those goddamn cursed drugs. As a musician myself of 36 years who's had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most talented, some of world's most famous, and even some of the most legendary musicians in the industry, I've seen some of the most talented people on earth selfishly throw it all away over chronic drug abuse.

Brendon joins Jar of Flies, an ultimate tribute to alice in chains, but sings in another band as well. His voice made me cry. it was my first year attending the Layne Stayley Tribute Weekend in Seattle last weekend and there were SO MANY amazing voices and musicians, I've been back home for 2 days now and the whole experience is just on repeat in my brain. Tears, joy, pain, goosebumps, and purely awestruck. If you haven't already, check them out!
It's a nice simple song, with easy and familiar chord structure. I don't think his voice sounds like Layne, but, his style sounds inspired by Staley. It's the vocal arrangement (Layne was really good at that) and the recording style that makes it sound AIC-ish. This guy is a good singer on his own merits so writing songs is the way forward. Do your own thing and being creative, that's the ticket. Well done.

I know you can sing in the same style ... but damn .. as someone who at the very least has said for at least 20 years+ that AIC is my co-favorite band ... this guy sounds EXACTLY like Layne AND the music sounds like Alice in Chains ... like if someone played Skorned to me and said it was unreleased AIC music, I'd 100% beleive it. .... I just dont know why I am JUST finding this when it's been out for 5+ years

I think imitation is the highest form of flattery, Layne inspired so many people this young mans name is Brenden Mair and I think its beautiful that Layne inspired him, Lets face it it's not easy to imitate Layne Staleys voice..This young man is talented, and from the way he sounds he may even have the potential to even have a stronger voice if he doesn't let his passion for music die, unfortunately Layne did. Nobody will ever replace Layne Staley, but for everyone with negative things to say I think we should give this young man credit where credit is due. who knows Layne Staley could have been reincarnated in this guy, and if hes not I am just so happy to hear his voice lives on, and I know Layne is smiling down right now, going Hell yeah Kid Rock that Shit!! Rest in Peace Layne Staley! Your Loved missed and will never be replaced, Your a legend Brother! And if it is you in that kid, lets stay drug free this time please!!
