  • Hi guys, I'm Eileen. In this video, I share some of my most unforgettable luxury shopping experience. Most of the customer service I've received has been really great. I know the opinions regarding Hermes customer service can really vary, but my Hermes sale associate has always been very good. I was also treated incredibly well in Louis Vuitton, Rolex, and especially Dior. That said, I once got told off at Chanel, but that's hardly the reason I stopped buying Chanel lol. If you have any tips on "the things you should do in a luxury stop", kindly share it with us xx

I had a terrible experience at Chanel where the sales associate dramatically looked me up and down before saying hi. While I was inspecting the bag he said “are you looking for the price tag?”. I had never seen the inside before of the classic flap in person but had memorized the prices so I felt insulted. He told me that I would be lucky to buy any of their bags like he was doing me a favor to take my money. I told him that I was not interested as I didn’t like the colors and walked out but was pretty ticked at how he behaved. I then went across the street to the other Chanel store and bought a beautiful bag from a lovely sales associate who made it a positive experience and not like I wasn’t good enough to be there. I wrote a message to Chanel to complain as I think the boutique experience should make you feel like a princess.

I travelled to Paris sixteen years ago with my husband. He is not a shopper but kindly walked the Champs-Élysées window shopping. On a whim I stepped into the Chanel store. I have long admired anything Chanel. At my price point, there was absolutely nothing for me😊 But it was fun to look. At one point I was about to take a picture of the store (with a regular camera because this is before iPhones😂). The male sales associate sternly said no pictures in the store. When he left two female associates approached me and one lady kindly offered to take my picture with several beautiful gowns while the other stood watch for the male associate 😂 These lovely ladies made my day.

Don't buy anything when something unpleasant happened before the purchase. You'll always be reminded of the experience. It sours your appreciation of the item.

I had the same experience at the same Chanel boutique in Harrods. I was asked to step back from a long glass counter because I was in a walkway for the S.A's. No way that anybody would realize that without being told. I believe that they get frustrated with asking customers to move constantly hence being abrupt. However, this is completely down to the bad design and flow of the pop up style store, not the fault of the customer.

I have a story for you. I live in Lisbon Portugal, I was never inside a luxury store but once I was at a famous square where there is a small Hermes store. I was passing by and looked into the window to see their stuff because Im curious lol.
By my side were to very animated and very nice Brazilian ladies I guess they were “making time” waiting around since the Brazil embassy is nearby and many brazilians go there to take care of bureaucratic issues. So they were just standing there…
In this moment an Hermes employee stormed out of the shop and told them (them not me) they could not stand around on public sidewalk in front of the store window 😂 because I quote “we are obliged to maintain a certain image of our store”.
I couldn’t believe the audacity! They were informal and underdressed I guess (they looked fine to me).
I told him I would call the police on him lol since we are in a free democratic country and anyone can stand on public sidewalk… we were surprised, i felt offended for them but at the same it was so pathetic lol…. I felt a bit embarrassed to since these were Brazilian emigrants in my country being treated like this… thankfully the ladies laughed… and I said to them “you stand where ever you like this is public sidewalk paid and maintained with our taxes lol”

Eileen, I was queing for Chanel spring / summer last year as I had liked a jacket and wanted to buy it. The sales asssocite came out with his clipboard and asked me what I was looking for, I mentioned the jacket. He looked me up and down and said “I reckon you are a UK size 10-12 which is a difficult size to find in the jacket as it’s so large”, yes ladies and gents, he told me that I am large to my face, I wear a size 10 UK on top and a size 12 UK on the bottom. I’m not skinny and it shouldn’t matter what size someone is, calling them large to their face and saying it so undiplomatically made me leave in tears. I ate a protein bar for the rest of the day as I felt huge and self conscious. Kindness goes a long way and it’s free!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. That man has no customer service skills, much less any class. Those sizes do not seem to be “large”, regardless his job is not to comment on any customer’s size, he made a fool himself, had I been his boss and witnessed the incident or had the incident been reported to me, I would of fired him immediately. Zero tolerance for trying to belittle customers.

That’s really sad but it seems like you’re more offended by your own size than his comment? 12 to 10 is large and it’s gonna be difficult to find your size in that jacket. He knew exactly what your sizes were and he didn’t call you out he just told you what size you are.

@@summer4659 and to that I would say why did he feel the need to assume her size and then comment that the size was large? He very well could have extended the courtesy of simply asking what size she was looking for - she could have been buying a larger or smaller size as a gift - and if she had replied a size 10 he could have simply left it at “that’s a difficult size to find” there was no need to snub her like that.

The best customer service I’ve ever experienced was at van cleef and Arpels. My sister and I tend to dress down whenever we go out and we don’t look like we have any money. But I really wanted to check out the Alhambra collection because I’ve never seen it in person. Not only was the sales associate extremely kind and gracious, but he even helped me decide between pieces. Most sales associates tend to brush us off because we look like we can’t afford anything, but he was having us try on the pieces and giving us information on all the stones. We walked away not buying anything, but as my sister and I were discussing how great of an SA he was, we went back and purchased an Alhambra necklace from him.

Many years ago my boyfriend at the time and I went into the LV boutique in Bloomingdales in NY. I wanted to buy a very specific bag to celebrate getting a new job. At the time the electronic credit card readers that you had to sign were new state of the art for processing payments and we hadn’t seen them before. My BF picked up the “pen” and started doodling on the screen. Okay, kind of stupid of him but he didn’t realize what it was. A sales associate grabbed the pen out of his hand and yelled at him. She was so rude that I said to her I’m not buying the bag here. We walked out and went to another LV boutique and bought it. I still have the bag but not that boyfriend. 😉

Eileen, years ago my older brother worked in luxury brand stores in Beverly Hills. He introduced me to his co-workers and I was never familiar with these brands and thought it was so luxurious and special. I grew up with a true appreciation for nice things. I cannot afford these things but I do believe your positive stories are based on sales staff that truly know how to treat & care for customers with anticipatory service. As you see that manager made an impression and you went back for a purchase with that store. Love the scarf you’re wearing in this video. Is it a Burberry? My favorite shopping experience was not in a luxury store but in a Lilly Pulitzer boutique. My best friend had recently divorced and was quite down. She has always worn lovely classic and quite understated clothing. I decided she needed something colorful to give her a lift. I called my local Lilly store which is a line known for fun bright colors and prints. When we arrived, they gave her the VIP treatment including offering champagne and snacks while pulling dresses that would flatter her coloring. She was amazed and it was a fun afternoon. I treated her to darling dress and she later told me about the many compliments she got when she wore it.

I usually have quite pleasant experience in Chanel store. But once during the pandemic, the Chanel store was extremely quiet, I was the only customer there. The SAs were chatting away while I was walking around the store. I approached one of the two SAs chatting asking for a blue Chanel classic flap. The SA sitting on a stool looked away and mumbled “A classic flap costs HKD40k+.” I was so shocked by his response. I just walked out of the store and never went back again.

Hi Eileen! On my recent trip to Oahu I went to Hermes twice - 2 separate locations. Both SA’s were very short and not very friendly. A lot of the items I was interested in were not available and I also did not like their energy. But I was kind of glad about it because it made me not want to purchase anything from them. I went to the same Chanel store twice 2 different days. The first day the SA was short and similar to the Hermes SAs. But the second time I went to the Chanel store - I had the sweetest SA. She was only able to help me for a short period in the beginning and the end- since her regular client came in to pick up her purchase but the store manager helped me out instead. The manager was awesome! She was super helpful and sweet and I immediately felt comfortable with her. I guess there are always going to be SAs with poor customer service skills and others with excellent customer service skills. Of course we should expect more from the SAs since we do spend a lot of money. I usually will not buy if I don’t like the SA or I will ask to work with another SA.

Many years ago I was mugged in Harrods. It was Christmas time, I was just about to exit the lift on the ground floor when I was punched in the face, knocking me to the floor whilst a girl who had been behind me in the lift tried to drag my designer bag off my shoulder. It got tangled up in my carrier bags and when she couldn't get the bag they both ran off. Security looked for them but didn't succeed. Harrods staff were lovely but I was left very shaken.

I went to Chanel store one time and nobody tried to helped me. They were just looking at me. Maybe because I was just wearing jeans and shirts and my bag was not even a brand name. I left and went to Prada next door. They helped me right away so I bought me a big one . After that I went back to Chanel and they were all over me. It was funny coz I thought of the scene in Pretty woman.

Being passive isn't the way for me because, I spend money in the stores I intent to buy something but to be given such attitude is unacceptable. I have experienced such at LV - Lotte, Busan and Chanel - Orchard Rd, Singapore. It did not dampen my spirit of purchasing the item that I was looking for, I simply complained and emphasise my request for another sales associate to attend to me, and then make the purchase.
After all their income is based on commission on a purchase, so it is my way of telling that rude person its her loss.
You are such a soft spoken and well dressed lady, it really took me by surprise any sales associate will talk like that towards you. Hugs hugs.

I never knew there was that rule in Chanel stores. There’s no chanel store here in the philippines but the first time i went in one was in japan and they were really nice. We went into two stores and the SAs were nice. This was before i saw videos about bad customer service. The SA in Hermes, on the other hand, was not so nice. And looked like he was forced to get the sandals that we were asking for. He looked like he didn’t want to entertain us. Even though he didn’t have any other customers at that time. But the SA in the Hermes store here in the Philippines was nice and very patient with us when we were trying on different sandals.

Hello EIleen. I never feel shy or uncomfortable entering certain shops, but I also take care to look well-groomed and put together. However, one visit was s bit embarrassing. Nine years ago
in London, I decided to visit Valentino´s and show them a Valentino handbag I inherited from my late aunt, who had bought it in Rome back in 1956 - 1960. (Her husband had been transferred to the Foreign Office. ) The bag was still in rather a good condition and I had managed to see only one similar bag earlier in a US preloved net shop. I was close to the Valentino boutique, when it started raining heavily. On a street corner, a car splashed brown dirty water all over me. I did consider not entering the shop, but went in anyway. I must have looked like a dirty rat, both my hair and my clothes dripping water, the bag coved in mud. I said shortly " So sorry, it is raining " to the doorman and the sales ladies did kind of stare, but I
got very good service and even a dry towel. My bag turned out to be one of those old rare ones. They did ask me to show it to their main shop in Rome, but even this short, wet visit made me happy. - Do not worry, go and look at all the items you like. After all, shops would not exist without customers.

When I was young I was in retail for many years. It takes a certain personality to be in the type of work. It is one of the hardest jobs I've done. It does not excuse rude behavior from an employee, likewise, other costumers should be polite as well. Times have changed and I have also been followed by another customer. In my opinion the the price increases and stores having "waiting lists" create a some what desperate atmosphere, good example - for someone to approach you on your exit from Hermes. None of this really entices me to shop!

I had the best experience at Gucci recently and got myself the Ophidia Tote. Jason was my CA and didn’t care that I didn’t look rich coming in. He loved my southern accent too, which in south Florida isn’t common as the NY or Jersey accent. He says I sound and talk with disarming attitude and genuine interest in others. I do! I also try to meet those with a bad attitude with kindness and a smile. I don’t have expectations of people especially now in this rude world. I can be kind or snotty. It’s always up to me, but I’d like to believe others need kindness more to remind them not everyone is evil.
I’m a happy and grateful person in overall life and a lot of times when people go off it has more to do with them than anyone else…or they have an expectation and shouldn’t. That’s my opine! Lol
Ps..I sold my LV MM monogram tote and got exactly what it cost to purchase the Gucci bag. Rule is…one out if one comes in. I didn’t have one regret either. I’m actually enjoying not having the same bag as everyone else at the mall or grocery store. Gucci is very underrated. I plan on getting cosmetic pouch

You should have demanded speking with manager and leave the boutique only after a big apology and respectful treatment.
The problem is that many Sales Assistants at Chanel boutiques are so arrogant (not sure what is the reason for it 🤔) that it seems to be some sort of habit they have: to look down on customers and behave in an unpleasant way.
This is ridiculous and not acceptable. Being a witness to such cases, I have stopped buying at Chanel long time ago.

I went to Neiman Marcus Chanel more than 12 years ago & I’m only wearing a Louis Vuitton bag & was not entertain by this SA inspite of showing my interest in some seasonal bags, she entertained other clients that come to store fortunately a nice SA (Armanus) came to me & ask me if I needed help. During that time I was only looking @ small/ mini bag & bought it. The next season probably few months later she saw me again but I was looking for Armanus . Every season I bought Chanel bag which surprise that lady coz everytime I see her she will ask me if I needed help but told her I’ve texted Armanus my SA. I needed to buy new glasses because my old ones had broken in half from falling on the ice. I put it off for maybe two years, wearing previous glasses until I no longer could excuse it. I made an eye appointment at the store but I had not planned time for shopping for the glasses that day. However the customer service told me, that the eye appointment was only free for customers, so I started looking at the frames anyway. I was not prepared so I didn't have a design in mind. I tried on a lot of glasses and took pictures to compare them. Finally I landed on frames that made my heart bubble. They were squere black and had little diamonds on the sides. They made my face look soft and kind but elevated it in a way where I wouldn't need eye make-up. I was pretty sure this was my frame, but I had been toying with the idea of round, rosegold or bronze glasses. I thought, maybe I needed to try new things sometimes. I also needed sunglasses and there was a frame and lense I really liked (it was a round Rayban with rose-coloured lenses). The store didn't have that exact colour lense for prescription lenses but a very similar one. These were all very fancy glasses and my prescription is pretty strong. With blue-light blocking and scratch protection, these all three pairs add up to a pretty hefty price. I had already asked the customer service person to let me sleep on the decision and she had agreed. Then as she was printing the notes, I quickly changed my mind and decided to buy them anyway. I paid one third upfront and waited on the order.
I almost immeaditely regretted buying the round ones, before they even arrived. A girl I used to like had complimented them while I was taking pictures and that had impacted my decision. I was also already very overwhelmed with trying on so many glasses in a bright and noisy mall. The customer service person explaining to me about leasing etc, and I couldn't concentrate on a thing she said anymore. I felt a bit weak that I had given in on the temptation, although the other two pairs were so clear loves, and the third was not. I considered cancelling the order but didn't.
Well, it took a while but finally they were all finished and shipped (this was during the pandemic so there had been some shortages). I arrived at the store with my mother to pick them up. The lady who fitted them on my face was so nice and complimented me on my choises, that I had chosen a good variety of styles and they all suited me well. She made me feel like I was buying beutiful jewelry.
I wore the round frames for a couple months, but I didn't end up using them much after that. However, I don't regret buying them so much anymore. Now if I break my glasses again, I know I don't have to go back to wearing those very old glasses that I'm legally blind in.

I have very good experience with Tiffany, Rolex and Hermes.
My Hermes experience was good with SA, but while walking out I had a women making howling wolf noises at me and scared me shitless. It turns out she was one of those just entering the store to see what it was about. I don’t even think she knew what kinda store it was…. It was scary. I think she had mental problems 🤦🏻‍♀️
Tiffany was always nice to me because I’ve always bought something from them every few months or once a year but a really nice purchase.
Rolex is always nice to my husband. We always had a grand experience there.
Yes, I agree wearing luxury these days, you have to be careful of your surroundings. I try to use my high end luxury only at certain places. I did have a scary experience before by accident. I had to stop by a convenient store before I head home cause we ran out of salad dressing. On the way out, a guy was eying on me and I was using my Birkin bag.

I have been shopping LV since 1993 and have enjoyed them until the last few years. The quality of the leather goods is just awful. I had issues with quite a few of the bags. The last time I was there had prompted me never to go back.
I special ordered a phone case from LV a few years ago, and it fell apart in less than ten months. I went to the store, and the sales rep could not find the order records and questioned me rudely if the phone case was a fake one?
I was so shocked and speechless!!!
How terrible the LV's sales records. It was less than a year, and they could not find it !!!
How rude and clueless LV's salesperson can not even recognize their product ???
I was dressing in jeans, but I was carrying a very expensive Birkin and some shopping bags from Tiffany next door, and he questioned me if the $460 phone case was fake?
I walked out there and never bought another LV and won't for the rest of my life.

LOL I had almost the same experience in Bvlgari. I was in the Bvlgari boutique in Las Vegas and the sales associate was showing me some handbags and wallets. I had set down my Gucci bag on the counter to try on some of the Bvlgari bags. Another customer came by and started looking at my Gucci bag and went to pick it up but then she realized it was not a Bvlgari bag and immediately backed away. It was kind of funny.
My other story happened at Hermes. I had an appointment so I got into the "appointments only" line. This snooty French woman (I live in the US) who was dressed to the nines and carrying a Birkin, said to me that the line was behind her. I told her I was standing in the "appointments only" line and she was in the "walk in" line because I had an appointment. She looked stunned and just said, "Oh." I was let in first because I had an appointment. They allowed her in a few minutes later. I mentioned something to my SA about her and she made a face and said that all the employees in the shopping center were familiar with that customer and she apologized that I had to deal with her. It made me feel a lot better that they didn't like or condone her snobby behavior either.

Best luxury store experiences would be in Asia especially LV Store in Taipei (not in Taipei 101). The SA was very welcoming and will serve tea and take u to third floor personal shopper floor. Precovid of course. Hasn’t been back since Covid. We also had great experience at Gucci in Taipei 101. I’ve also experienced great customer service in Chanel and LV in Las Vegas.

I had a weird thing happen to me in the Goyard store in Milan. It’s a small store but lovely. That day my son ( 16 year old) and I were rung in and asked to wait as the SA was helping a family. There were 2 women in burka’s, 2 small children and an older man. I had my Kelly 32 with me and the ladies eyes went to it immediately. I sat it on the center glass display to look at some purses. My son was keeping an eye on my Kelly. Suddenly my son rushed to my side holding my purse and told me after one of the women said something to the man he picked up my purse and quickly dropped it back on the center display table when he realized my son was looking at him. My son said he was so shocked he didn’t say anything. To this day we think the ladies told him to pick it up and check it out to see if it was real or not🤔. I bought a Goyard bag and the kind SA had no idea how rude his former customer had been.

I got spoken to in an LV store for going behind the counter to look at a bag on the shelves. ‘This area is for employees ma’am. Not customers. Ask if you wish to see a piece’.
I was waiting for my SA to bring out my wrapped purchase and told him the boutique should place a sign. It looked like a display area, not a restricted area.
Also, that guy had no excuse to speak to you in that manner.

Not a big fan of window or in store shopping myself. Much preferred online. E-Commerce are big these days, even for luxury brands. Their purchase & return/refund policies made easy. Some brands in Australia only give credit notes for returned purchases in store, but full refund if purchase online (go figure!).
I’m very intentional in what I want to buy, so often do my research online, watch videos of items on RUclips, then make the purchase. If it’s an absolute must, I will go to the store, but mostly my purchases are quick & precise (in & out).
Like you mentioned in your other video, SAs aren’t our friends, they’re just doing their job & getting commission along the way…hence I always keep the interaction at a professional level, rather than personal. I don’t feel entitled to any special treatments (eg: champagne or high tea), if anything, I find it very awkward…it’s simply an exchange, I give the shop money, they give me their merchandise…nothing more, nothing less…however, if you could build a ‘relationship’ with your SAs, then good for you! 👍
Hubby on the other hand, wants to see & feel things, hence shopping online is very limited! If he is buying me gifts, most of the time I’m not there, so can’t speak for him…but I know he doesn’t like browsing around, so in & out (just like me lol)
One time, I wanted the LV Bloomsbury messenger bag for traveling. He was working in Singapore at the time. After doing a price check, we found it is cheaper to buy in SG & take advantage of duty free purchases. He left work late…came to the Marina Bay LV store in his work gear (looking a little disheveled in his work boots, khaki pants & safety visor shirt…life of an engineer…you get the picture). He told me, had he went back to the hotel & change/shower, the store would be closed, & he worked late everyday he was there. As expected, no one came to serve him, until he asked. The SA was pleasantly surprised my husband made the purchase in less than 10 minutes, without much effort from the SA. It goes to show: never judge the book by its cover 😊
Have a lovely week Eileen, & looking forward to your next video 😉

Definitely never judge a book by its cover! In my day job, I come across all walks of life and time and time again, I'm reminded to never judge anyone xx

Yes it is terrible how some sales assistance treat customers. It can totally ruin your whole day. You are so sweet and I think the Chanel sales assistance should have been more softer in their approach.
