I am a lecturer in Marketing and have always been impressed by consumers' reactions on the high end brands marketing. Their bags no matter how beautiful are literally just a product. It might help us to overcome our insecurities, make us happy or feel accomplished. But in the end, bags are just bags and if the way in getting them hurts us, then the products have failed to fulfil their purpose.

Personally, it’s a major turnoff and hearing this content I can assure you I would NEVER even consider such a brand. That includes any of these high-priced luxury brands. Pathetic and totally unnecessary emotional investment in such products. Stop buying them and the abuse goes away.

Having been on both sides, nobody should have to connect with a SA to make a purchase. If there truly is a waitlist then it should be first come, first serve. I refuse to support any brand that treats customers like they need to grovel to spend their money. It’s just a bag that is overhyped.

The thing that got me was... she’s gotten bags. Quota bags. And she resold them on eBay. If I was an SA looking to give someone a very limited bag that I really thought they would appreciate, I wouldn’t give it to someone who talks about reselling their quota bags on their social media channels. It seems like she does a hard press to get a bag then once she gets it she loses interest and sells it... and then on to the next obsession over a new bag. All the (seemingly unintentional) emotional manipulation aside, I can’t imagine an SA wanting to work with someone who is constantly obsessing over the next quota bag. That seems exhausting. Would be much more fun to work with a client who loves the brand, appreciates the bag, and enjoys it without reselling or feeling compelled to hunt for a new one.

Did you see her follow-up reaction video? It gets really disturbing when she admits that all along, she was looking for "closure" about why she was never offered her wish list items, and then goes on to blame Hermes staff for lack of transparency, when she herself wasn't transparent about what she'd done with previous re-sales (or why those sales might keep her from acquiring future dream list purchases). This lack of self-awareness, of hypocrisy...she's not in a healthy mental or emotional place, right now. I hope she stops shopping, and starts "Shrinking" her issues, stat.

I would not buy items just to qualify to get another item, even if I could be sure it would work. I have never even been into an Hermes boutique, so I have zero personal experience. However, I watch far more videos than I have any business watching and it seems clear to me that there is no formula. You can spend six figures and no bag is offered. Another person walks in with no purchase history and dressed like a wharfie and the wharfie will get the bag. No formula. You have made a very good point about the SA being time poor. When does she have the time to read/answer such a barrage of emails? I had not thought of that. Thank you for the video!

Let me tell you I have shopped at Hermès in Dallas Miami and New York for about 30 years. I am as you can imagine no spring chicken. Be that as it may, I have never been treated with anything other than kindness and respect in all of that time. During that time I have bought an array of Hermès products not because I was trying to score a burger Kelly or Constance but because I actually think and believe their things are gorgeous, sensual and of incredible quality. Every time I was ready for a bag I was presented a bag at which time I purchased the bag. As somebody who sees clients of varying backgrounds financial position and emotional position, I realize many people have no idea how their actions and their words their behavior is perceived by those around them. I can tell you my demeanor when shopping is kind of calm but giddy, I am also very appreciative of My SA and their time. The thing is these emotions are real I am not pretending and mostly there is nothing about my demeanor that is demanding. Any one of my friends who has the same experience as I do in any boutique really seem to be of the same demeanor. I’ve always found the boutique and their sales staff to be so appreciative of the customer that truly admire and appreciate the craftsmanship the history the unique qualities that their product offers. I agree so much with this lovely lady doing this video. Maybe if you ever do get the opportunity even just go look at the beautiful things in Hermès do it with kindness and appreciation and I just know they will roll out the red carpet for you.

This Hermesgeddon happened a whole two seasons ago and I'm just watching the original tonight. Bless her heart, she went on and on and on. She sucked me in. I am so sorry she is tearing herself up about a stinking pocket book as we sometimes call them here in America. I don't like the way Hermes does business. I think everyone who wants a bag should get one. Go to the store, put your money down, wait six months to a year on it and that way you know you will get your bag. All this uncertainty and depression over not getting a bag is agony. I feel for Mel. I agree with a lot of what you said here. I don't know the luxury market because I do not have that kind of money. That much money could support me for a year, paying rent, food, bills, everything. Some people have more money than sense. Put that money into your kids. You are a mom now, putting yourself first goes out the window until they get out on their own making their own money.

This was so insightful. I'm also into/have a luxury bag collection, but I just buy what I like and it's not a big, emotional deal for me (also prefer more under-the-radar/subtle designs/brands, like "old" Bottega or Loewe). I much more prefer to/am way more serious about investing/spending my "play money" (after bills and saving) into fine jewelry - I totally relate in that aspect. I have many jewelry brand SAs that I have a fantastic relationship with, who I see regularly and we chat about our love of jewelry in general but also their lives and mine. Many of them have actively helped me seek out pieces and/or held rare/highly coveted pieces for me, even beyond what is normally allowed because I couldn't come in (I travel for work). I watched her vid a few weeks ago and felt so bad for her too, but I agree: it absolutely is about relationships, life isn't fair, and in the end, it's just stuff (whether it's a bag, shoes, or diamonds). Cheers to people and moments! 🥂

My issue with Hermes is that sales reps are totally fine to string customers along and make commission off of all their purchases knowing full well there are some people that won’t get a bag. If they had an issue with her selling items on eBay, they should have just said that and told her she won’t get a bag but they won’t because they want her money on all of the other items. She did come off very intense in the emails but the SA also never communicated with her directly to let her know how she felt. Instead she let it build up because she wanted the commission on all the BS items she was buying (that honestly no one really wants - they just buy them in hopes of being offered a bag)

I dont think the SA led her on - the SA even explicitly reminded her that buying a ring will not promise a bag. I actually think it was kinda dumb of the SA to say this if she wanted to just make commission. But in that moment, the SA was actually being truthful. A sales associate is a salesperson. They make commission and protect their livelihood by selling items to you. They’re not there to be the sacred guardians that pass out bags and bestow them upon worthy buyers - they’re also just trying to live their life and get by. I don’t think it’s “stringing” anyone along when the buyer chooses to play the game and the SA explains every time that a wish list is random and just that - a WISH list. Not a wait list.

Just cut the BS, make small purchases from the store time to time, show up to their stores with the Hermès handbags you already have, and go there punctually with the cash when the bags are ready. If you are tired of waiting, go buy a gold Rolex and wear it to the store, it tells the sales you don’t care and money is not the issue.

I asked for a purse in a specific color. The sales associate trotted up and came down with it. I admired the purse and declined the offer. But, the reality is I was offered the exact purse I had requested and at that point I had never purchased items from that location. I do email her about something I want (a ready to wear item being the latest) I might follow up with a call. Then after that I don’t bother her. They do have other customers and they work really hard. She has always tried to get me what I asked for…I don’t bug her. I did walk into a different boutique in a different place (on vacation) and just for the heck of it straight up asked for a Birkin…and got it. They hadn’t asked my name or looked up purchase history. It can happen. A friendly personality helps…but not a fake friendly. Normally I only buy from my SA I’ve had for years…I am loyal that way. I couldn’t turn down the Birkin, I have three grown daughters and I knew one would be pleasantly surprised with it. I told my SA about it..she was fine. I did buy a scarf on a NYC trip also. Kind of a trip souvenir. Closing…don’t bug your SA…they are human, they keep notes..no need to beg.

The thing I don't get is why she doesnt just buy pre-loved bags. There are loads of them. My guess is that she wants to just resell them. And she has fomo. She has been completely sucked in to the exclusivity of it and when she isnt picked for it, it makes her feel like she has to push harder to be chosen which is why she buys all these other things from Herme. Pick me pick me pick me, I'm worthy, look at all the things Im spending money on. Its an energy at the end of the day.

Mel from PurseonFleek has been reported to be a eBay reseller where she was a professional reseller of fake Chanel bags and Hermes accessories. Please see Super Dacob's video on that with receipts. Super interesting and I am not surprised that Hermes is not honoring such trashy clients.

Wow. This adds a bit more context to how Hermes handled things and possibly a reasoning behind the manager's decision to block her on Instagram.

@@silkbuttons Please go and watch this video I was referring to before you say "bullshit". There is a clear Mel's eBay profile with Chanel knock-offs from China or whatever it is called in English. Fake, knock-off. Fake is fake. I understand you might be her friend and be emotionally involved, but I am just referring to what I saw and Hermes should not be bashed for protecting their own good name and luxury standing. They have the right to choose their clients carefully and this is what makes them special and so wanted. I don't understand what is so hard to understand here.

Go to her IG page (purseonfleek) and look for her very fits Pochette Metis from back in her beginning days. Look at the detailing, especially the heat stamp on the handle. The L on ‘Louis’ and N on ‘Vuitton’ are significantly deeper and has made thicker lines, a very distinct trait for 1:1 or mirror replica bags. After using it for a while, Mel posts that she sold her Pochette Metis. After a while, she bought a REAL Pochette Metis from the store… now, she had other bags and resold them and then she bought bags. Makes me wonder whether she used to buy replica and then sold them as authentic and bought authentic bags 🤔🤔🤔 somethinf about her seems off soooooo….

I seriously wanted to comment on her video. I see exactly what you saw. She became obsessed with getting what she wanted and got bamboozled when it didn’t happen. Also it made me want to say. FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

All this emotion about a thing we put other things in in order to leave the house to do stuff. People are sympathizing with both Mel and the SA but I truly wonder how the SA is doing in all of this. She didn't ask for this smoke yet here she is getting it. I hope the SA and the store manager are doing okay after all this unwanted attention. They were simply trying to do their jobs during a very stressful time in the world. Mel's video was tone deaf and she came off as entitled #firstworldproblems and it really put me off. She was defensive when people commented in ways that didn't prop her up. It's all just a mess. People are fighting for their lives and livelihoods but well - Mell wants another damn Hermes bag - so there's that.

Margarita this video is a perfect example of why I enjoy your chanel so much. Your videos are a rare combination of luxury appreciation and groundedness, confidence and compassion, and of course humor. You appreciate fashion but don't inflate its importance, and speak honestly and genuinely about your perspective without judging others. (Also let's be honest, you and your mom eating caviar and drinking champagne is the best mood ever.) Sometimes these types of videos leave one feeling inadequate, or even uncomfortable because the person seems almost compulsively out of touch, but your videos make me feel happy that there are others out there that appreciate nice things without arrogance or unhealthy fixation. You are a sage, unapologetically-feminine feminist with a Birkin. Thank you!

I’m in that journey right now haven’t scored Kelly or burkin yet but I’m not obsessing it to the point I let my self sad about not being offer yet. I bought things that I love and I’m honest to my SA that I’m not buying anything unless I truly love it and wanting the item. Feel lucky enough to be pulled in the private room just to be offered some bags that are also in demand like my mini Evelyn which was offered to me during Mother’s Day even that gives me the cloud9 feeling. Right now been collecting perfume from Hermès they have great collections and slowly building my collection. If I don’t get offer that’s fine life shouldn’t end from there I wasn’t born next to a Hermès bag so I can live without it lol. My family is my happiness and not my material things. I hope she can find her kids and husband as her source of happiness and contentment.
