As a bodybuilder accustomed to eating 6-8 meals a day I have to say transitioning to OMAD seemed impossible at first. My first shock upon starting was how much of my time had gone into snacking and meal prep prior. The next thing of course was the experience of feeling hungry all the time. Thankfully this subsided after a few weeks.
Now after a year on OMAD I only get hungry around meal time (breakfast) Even if I run a marathon or work a 12 hour shift it seems my body has adapted in a way that I do not feel hungry or lack energy. The best thing OMAD has given me is boundless energy and a lean physique without having to think about what I'm putting in my mouth.
Looking and feeling good all year round rather than endless cutting/bulking cycles is much more preferable to me. Yes it's true that it's not as easy to gain muscle or hold onto as much mass on OMAD but I think the trade off is well worth the benefits.

@@justadude4826 as an individual who trains 6-7 sessions per week, five high protein meals a day, I would ask what your current diet and lifestyle looks like ie. when do you typically eat and what do you normally eat? If it’s not high fat or high protein, I would suggest getting rid of any processed foods, start increasing your water intake and getting used to black coffee (no sugar or milk). The reason for this is that it’s super difficult to fast when there’s a lot of carbs in your system and black coffee generally works as a great appetite suppressant.
I’ve been eating two meals a day for about a week now and feel pretty good, mainly high protein/fat. As you have a family, I would suggest breaking your fast at dinner time, so you can share a meal with your family. That’s just my two cents. All the best with your journey 🙃

@@justadude4826 I did it overnight and it wasn't pleasant to begin with. The first week was the worst in which I experienced low blood sugar symptoms, cravings and extreme hunger. I made sure to keep my fluid intake high and caffeine also helped control hunger. It was a test of will in the beginning and a more gradual transition would be advisable.
After a few weeks it became increasingly easier. Thereafter I was hungry only around meal times (breakfast). This was the best time running OMAD because my appetite was extremely high only at meal time and getting my calories in was easy.
Now I'm at the point where I even struggle to get hungry enough on OMAD to get maintenance calories in. That is to say I have to supplement with protein/vegie shakes. I've even forgotten to eat altogether some days.
I also get regular blood work to monitor my health as I feel it's important when making significant lifestyle changes.

@@justadude4826 it’s a pity that coffee doesn’t work for you. I think your plan is a sound one, ease into fasting at your own pace. I have added pink Himalayan salt to my water purely to get in sodium. It’s particularly important if you’re doing extended fasts (24 hours or more). Dr Jason Fung is a major advocate for fasting. You should listen to some of his work.

Let me clear up some mis-guidance about O.M.A.D. :
First, O.M.A.D. is NOT a diet but a life-style.. Once your body is keto-adapted you could go hours and hours without eating, more importantly without having the need to eat or to munch on something.. which means once you get used to the O.M.A.D. life-style you don't need much willpower to keep going, it becomes automatic and you hardly experience any cravings whereas if you are on a particular diet, there are so many things that you need to follow and it takes an immense willpower to be able to pull it off.. So, once adjusted to O.M.A.D. it is much easier than following a diet.
Second mis-guidance is about the eating time.. There is a thing called circadian rhythm and there is a reason why we wake up when the sun rises and even though you may eat the exact same meal , depending on what time of the day you eat that meal , your body will digest it differently , so the most ideal time for the O.M.A.D. meal is sometime between 1 pm to 4 pm ..
Third, once you start doing O.M.A.D. there is a big concern on whether or not we will be in a calorical deficit . If you are a professional athtlete or someone who spends hours in the gym every single day, then O.M.A.D. is probably not going to be sufficient for you, but for the rest of us, for average Joes who exercise regularly once your body becomes keto-adjusted you will have plenty of energy for your daily exercise whether it is walking in the woods or hiking or running five miles a day or spending one hour at the gym.. and you will not lose weight either..
Fourth, if you start doing O.M.A.D. you also need to make some changes around your eating habits. The portion of your O.M.A.D. meal is probably going to be bigger than your regular meal so you need to learn how to take your time to consume your O.M.A.D. meal . It takes me more than an HOUR to finish my meal. I eat very slowly now and I find that very enjoyable. Second, it is the food order that you need to consider, meaning it is better to start with fruits and salads first or vegetables first then your main course ( protein or carbs ) . This way your blood sugar will not go through the roof plus you will not feel bloated once you finish eating.
Lastly, Once O.M.A.D. starts to become a life-style and you start experiencing the amazing benefits , it is OK to be FLEXIBLE from time to time and break the routine by eating healthy snacks outside of your eating time or eating two meals a day if you are visiting friends and family and it is hard to maintain your daily routine..
I started doing O.M.A.D. a while ago after having done intermittent fasting for years and I can not even tell you guys the amazing benefits that I have been getting . My face is skinnier now, my sleep quality has improved , my dreams are vivid, my skin is more shinny , my mood is very stable , I have a lot of energy throughout the day, evenings and mornings, and most importantly I feel like I have taken an ecstasy pill !
    Cheers !

I don't have to eat every few hours. I'm eaten carnivore for 4 years and I am lean having dropped 30 pounds. When a person consumes carbs, that is when people wind up eating every few hours. I started with a 48 hour fast and did well. After I did that, I figured... "If I can do two days, I can easily go day to day between meals." I truly believe starting harder made jumping into OMAD easier. Love the vids, Al! Great energy and attitude. Nice work. Subscribed.

Great video. I intermittent fast eating two meals a day. There are some times on the weekend when I don't have to work I can go a whole day without eating and not even feel hungry. I guess when your body gets used to it it's easier to go without food. Actually the human body wasn't designed to eat like most people do. Being a diabetic I have to take my medicine twice a day if it wasn't for that I would only eat one meal a day and easily handle it. This way of eating has made me feel unbelievably better and my A1C are down too. As far as losing weight I just keep the same body weight maybe fluctuating up or down a few pounds here and there. You are right about coffee breaking a fast. I don't think that's true. I drink mine with cream and have one cup in the morning way before I eat. Definitely the key is water. If I get what I think is a hunger pain and drink a bottle of water,, it goes away. This proves that it was just thirst. Lastly it seems the less I eat the more energy I have. There are times when I'm due to eat my first meal but I'm feeling great so I put it off for another hour or so.

I read in an old book(from the '60's) that most native populations could eat a lot in one sitting and endure long fasting. It can be an adaptation to the realities of those living conditions: food was not always available and when it was it had to be used to the max, plus they had a very active lifestyle. In the end , it all depends on personal preference, because one diet might be great for some, but a strugle for others, especially in modern times.

Hey Al, After watching your content I have decided to try the omad diet. For the last few months I have been doing it and found decent results, but I have lost a good chunk of muscle. How do you prevent this? As I have tried to double up my protein in my meal at the end of the day, but because of the portion and how much protein it is not enjoyable for me. Is there also a rule you try to stick to with your protein? Such as the typical 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight?
    Thanks!

i doubt you lost muscle but rather muscle glycogen, when you adapt the muscles will be fuller again. 1g of protein per 1lb should be enough for you

Just curious as I am currently weighing out my food each meal to make sure I don't over eat, if that's still something you do with OMAD or not so much. Thanks in advance.

been doing omad 3 months now, a solid 20 pound lost. Health reasons l feel so much better and loosing weight. Yep it is all about the monster in the room, FASTING. State of mind and body and something that becomes part of this lifestyle because l am not going back to fat and unhealthy. l learned fasting does have a rev, and can keep you awake all day no problem, include exercise and activity, and relaxing without sleeping. Did go low carb and whole foods. My gout has healed very fast and not had any symptoms for months

Now I want to put back on a little weight but I’m scared I’ll lose my shred. Dipping snuff & energy drinks are the only way I’m able to sustain on omad. I guess I’ll just add a dinner of something light to try to gain back some size & not fat.

The part I don't understand about omad, is how do you get your protein? Your body can only absorb 20-30 grams of protein per meal. The rest goes straight to your kidneys. Your body can only absorb this amount of protein every 2 hours also. So if you only eat one meal per day, you're only getting 30 grams of protein every 24 hours?
