    Nora, I’m so impressed by you! The fact that you’ve been knitting for only a year and all the things you’ve challenged yourself with and achieved is amazing! I’ve been knitting for nearly fifty years and haven’t done half the things you have 😞
    Your drawbore (didn’t know the name of this until your video, so, thank you!) analogy for your button placement is perfect!

      Thank you so much!! I can only hope that seeing someone new to the craft trying these more "advanced" techniques will help you feel like you have the ability to do it too!! But I also recognize the fact that trying so many new things all of the time doesn't exactly make for the most relaxing hobby, and it is SO OKAY for knitting to be just that for you!!

      @@akaNoraKnitsI was inspired by you to try the double knit button band on my daughter’s vest. So, thank you!! Also, I found the video for buttonholes without cutting the yarn: ruclips.net/video/AIUtOMxpCgg/видео.html - not difficult, but I did make a couple of small mistakes that I decided not to go back and fix - thank you for that too (*your little tag line about mistakes making it handmade)

    Nora, I had to pause your video and immediately fix the bottom button on the cardigan I was wearing using the placement method you were talking about. Actually managed to fix something that had been bugging me since I finished the cardigan! So thankyou!
    Love your cardigan and your mods. This pattern has been on my to-do list for awhile, after seeing yours I'm determined to get to it soon! Love your button band, so polished. Will be copying 😅

    I love that you stuck out that explanation until you were able to find your words to fully explain it to us!! Who knew that woodworking and knitting could so beautifully intersect. I feel like this opens up a whole new world of understanding our knitting.

      @akaNoraKnits  11 месяцев назад +1

      I literally think in pictures so I am always so determined to find the words to explain the cool things in my head! Hahaha...I could go on and on and on about the many ways that alllll of my hobbies intersect and how wonderful it is to use one hobby to better understand another! I strongly encourage you to think of ways that could apply in life! It's a fun game of perspective!!

    [deer emoji] The buttons just melt into the sweater -- they're both understated and spectacular. Dumb buttons will wreck a gorgeous sweater; I just bought a $380 coat and changed the buttons. You could've spent twice as much and they still would've been worth it.

    • @akaNoraKnits
      @akaNoraKnits  11 месяцев назад +1

      🦌 Thank you!!! That's exactly what I was going for! I couldn't agree more. I think they can really make or break a project and I would do the exact same thing if I bought a coat that didn't have the right buttons for me. Now that I have the garment finished, I don't regret a thing!!

    Oh Nora. Miss Korshavn is divine. She is so pretty. The montage was great. Also, i dont think there should be ANY shame in those 182 days. I admire the time & care spent on the details. The antler 🫎 story never fails. It will forever be relatible & funny.
    Dads sweather looks great. I love the ribbed pattern in the body of it. The Ciclamen sweather is looking cool. Love that ribbed detail running along the underarm. Thank for curating these videos. Take care, Anna

    For a long-term mindless knit option, I want to suggest Purl Soho's half and half triangles wrap. It's one of those no deadline, cozy, versatile items. The Linen Quill is a dream to work with, and how many ways it can be styled makes it special.

    🦌I'm so happy that you are loving your Korshavn. I have been knitting for several years but I have only made hats, socks, scarves, but once I found you I decided that it can't be that scary so I am making my own Korshavn. I haven't knit a cardigan, and I am knitting it with DK yarn and mohair, so this is a lot of new things. Thanks for sharing with us, this made me brave enough to give it a try. They had fantastic buttons, and I had forgotten. Just checked: the store is still there!! It's 50 years later, and will be a sweet 45-minute road trip for me next weekend. *I can't thank you enough for your comment!*

      Right??? I am with you! I was hoping that the cotton acrylic makeup wouldn’t mean that the fibers blown into the yarn are all acrylic, but it is just so soft and so pretty! I’ll try to keep y’all posted on how it wears and how toasty it really gets while wearing it

    🦌I made a cardigan in three Fisherman’s wool Birch Tweed 202. I needed a little more after deciding to lengthen it another 10”. When looking, there are different versions of the same colors and numbers but some are mostly wool(white with black tweed) and some have more acrylic(more beige with bigger tweed pieces). Same name but they look completely different and different content. I was able to find some on Poshmark. And it did match even though the dyelots were different. So check the pics and wool percentage carefully!

    It was so freaky to see my Korshavn at 03:05 👀 You can see I also did a modified band. Mine was just a 1x1 rib but on smaller needles, so kind of looks like a double-knit. Don't ever feel bad about store bought clothes (the Christmas pj's). I often start feeling like I need to hand make everything for my family and then when I can't fit it all into my schedule, I feel like I have failed. In reality though, my expectations of my ability and time tend to be extremely unrealistic in that area. I have to remind myself of this often and almost talk myself into pulling the trigger on store bought items. But it's always a big stress relief when I do.

    • @akaNoraKnits

      Thank you so much!! 🥰🦌 I so appreciate you sharing your perspective on the manner. I have such a bad habit of telling myself I have time to make the things that I want to and then getting disappointed when that just doesn't happen. I often forget that my hobbies tend to go through their own seasons and it's hard for me to plan so far out, but I am trying to shift my thinking. It's good to know I'm not the only one!

    Your cardigan is beautiful. The buttons may have been expensive, but they elevate the cardigan. They are also substantial enough to hold the button band in place. Using a button too small not only looks odd but will not hold the shape of the button band.
    Since you’re a bargain shopper, watch in resale shops for faded wools. You can see it on the shoulder of wool coat/jackets where the top is exposed to lighting (all lighting fades wool) This happens mostly to the color blue and all other colors containing blue. Cones of yarn can be faded on the top and bottom. The continual lighting in retail stores is hard on the color blue.

    I have just found your you tube channel and am watching it from the start. I have got to this cardigan and had to make it. I just bought some lime green yarn costing £161 but worth it. The yarn is Dun NG NGALL wild Atlantic yarn apple colour. I am going to get the cream yarn also for another jumper I did if I like this yarn. Luv yr channel so much. I am a beginner and just starting on my journey. I am on my third jumper which is for my husband. The first 2 I did was full of errors but I learned loads. Will keep them for a memory lol

    I think maybe being a sewist helps with the button and buttonhole process.
    It turned out beautifully and love the buttons!

    Your Korshavn turned out perfect! 🦌 Also loved your woodworking analogy. A long time ago a did an apprenticeship as a carpenter (before going to medschool and then using my woodworking skills in orthopedic trauma surgery 😂)
    Very interested to learn about your zipper installing tool. I love zipper sweaters and have knit a couple but I HATE putting the zipper in. I had considered asking my knit group ladies if someone want's to do it if I pay them... but them did it myself again after letting the completely finished sweater sit for 3 month 😬

    Girl, your daddy is going to love that sweater either way ...but I'd say do not install the zipper till you know the length is right.
    Either:
    1. Give it to him pre-zipper ....he would certainly understand you want it to be a perfect fit ...then adjust if necessary and let the zipper fly!
    Or...
    2. Have your mom measure one of your dad's similar sweaters from neck to hem ...and adjust if needed before putting the zipper in.
    You are such a thoughtful daughter. He and your mom are blessed to have you!! 💕
