  • Welcome to the full review of "The Keg" by Rusty Surfboards, The Keg is the pro model shortboard of WSL World Tour ripper Wade Carmichael!
    I have been riding The Keg as a stock 6'0 which is 6'0 x 19 1/2 x 2 1/2 - 31L
    From rustysurfboard...
    The Keg is a stout brew designed by Rusty Preisendorfer and Wade Carmichael. It’s most distinct feature is the high nose and tail rocker. The bottom features a fairly deep concave through the board.
    The deepest point is a third of the way up from the block. Rusty typically measures tail blocks 1 inch up so he can get a more consistent read meaning that the measurement is not as affected by the overall tail curve.
    The Keg measures in at a hearty 7.8 inches one inch up. That’s almost an inch wider than most typical high performance short boards. The foil is shifted back. On most of Rusty’s boards he prefers a neutral foil or 0.1 inch more in the rear of the board. The Keg is 0.2 inches thicker than the nose. Significant.
    Wade’s dims on his weapon of choice out of the rack for most conditions is 6’0. Slightly bigger than average because Wade is an all-Australian bloke, built from Young Henry’s lagers and steak and veggies. 19.5 wide, 2.55 inches thick and 31 liters of frosty volume.
    The Keg is the Pro model for Wade Carmichael and his go-to board competing in the WSL. Built for conditions all over the world, from point breaks, beachies, punchy slabs and everything in between.
    We can’t promise you that you’re going to be able to throw as much spray as Wade does but at least with this board under your feet you’ll know it’s your fault and not the board.
    In The Keg, I rode the new AM2 by Futures Fins.
    From futuresfins.co...
    The AM2 Honeycomb, designed by legendary shaper Al Merrick of Channel Islands Surfboards, is a large size thruster in the Rake template category.
    Featuring a balanced flex pattern, this fin's wider base provides increased drive through turns, making it ideal for high performance surfing. The center fin is smaller than the side fins for increased maneuverability.
    Template Category | Rake (drawn-out, control, drive)
    Construction | Honeycomb
    Ride Number | Balanced - 5.8
    Size | Large (180+ lbs)
    We hope you've enjoyed the review of The Keg by Rusty Surfboards, and hopefully you get a chance to check one out!
    Thanks to Sam, Kim and Byron for the surf footage!
    And thanks to Rusty Surfboards for the chance to check out The Keg!

    Great looking board and an excellent review. Nice drone footage. Looks like an great option for a heavier surfer. A good all round daily driver.

      Definitely worth checking out for bigger guys, but I think it’d work for anyone sized accordingly ✌️

      It looks really good. To get one, do you know if you have to order one ‘custom’ direct from Rusty? They make the boards in Mona Vale don’t they?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  2 года назад +1

      @@rogerpye1865 yeah you can - and you might even get time with Aido who is the Australian Rusty shaper (and all round legend) to chat through your order and if you need to customize it a little…
      Not sure if they hold stock there though.

    Hi Craig… how would you compare The Keg with the JS Monsta Box?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  2 года назад

      Very similar - but I’d you are choosing between the two, I’d go the Keg everyday! 💪

    Hey would this work with a upright template like the endorfins? They are stiff but have some base and slight rake

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  7 месяцев назад

      Hey! I haven't ridden them, but if you like them as a thruster set then they'd likely work. I personally prefer raked templates like the AM2.

      I absolutely love mine. Works in 1-3 crappy mushy waves. Ended up taking it out on a day that was 4-6ft on a pretty fast and heavy day and it had no issues at all. Craig I'd highly recommend checking it out it's been my most favorite daily driver board I've ever ridden

      The Keg is a little longer like a shortboard, where the Hot Knife you ride a little shorter.

    On the Rusty site it makes it sound like has a lot of rocker? How does it paddle compared to the Sister Brother?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  2 года назад

      Oh Gees. I haven’t ridden a Sister Brother for like 6 years…
      This has a bit of rocker, but it looks to be all in the nose, and very gentle throughout the board…
