  • The Wave Slave is a stumped down fun little offering from Stacey Surfboards, and though only having been released around six months ago, is already taking on a cult like status with a lot of fans swearing by the new model.
    The Stacey Wave Slave I have been riding is 5’9 x 19 ¾ x 2 7/16 @ 29.5L.
    I’ve had the Wave Slave for around 3 months, and been able to surf it in a variety of conditions, and have also tried a bunch of fins in this board. I’ve had the opportunity to surf it from longer running walls of Snapper Rocks, through to the junky shore breaks that my local beach break offers up! Once I went through my journey of finding a fin for the board that unlocked its full potential, the Wave Slave was a blast to ride, and really made surfing fun, especially in junky waves with a bit of push in the 2-4 foot range - this was my go to board.
    Having had boards with similar wide tails to the Wave Slave, while they were epic in flat and fat little waves, I felt they were very limited when the waves had some steepness and were over the 3 foot range, but not the Wave Slave. Having surfed it up to around 4 foot, it didn’t really feel like it was maxing out in waves with more size and more push.
    The Wave Slave is a great board for someone who wants a no nonsense board to surf in your local conditions when the waves aren’t really cooperating, and you want to make the most out of the surf!
    Also, if you want to try out a Wave Slave before you buy, you can Away Co a Wave Slave from Stacey Surfboards at Currumbin on the Gold Coast - what an epic way to make sure you get a Wave Slave that is the right size for you!
    From the www.staceysurfboards.com website:
    A slave to the average, a slave to the wave. Own it. Destroy surf. This is the surfboard we've been riding in everything from 2-4 feet. You got mushy beach breaks? Wave Slave has you covered. You got punchy rip bowls? Wave Slave has you covered.
    A very user friendly surfboard for anyone looking to add spice to their quiver. Wave Slave carries more volume than The Flathead, but you ride it in the same size. It's perfect as a step-down for the more advanced surfer and can be ridden in waves you would normally ride a Black Bear or Machine Head.
    Ride slightly bigger for the surfer looking for a higher volume, but performance shortboard. Wave Slave!!!

    Do you know if there is a difference in construction or shape between the current am2 and the older version with the horizontal black stripe?

    hey kinda looks really similar to the CI dumpster diver? Any thoughts on that? U think the wave slave has more rocker?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      Hey! Yeah, very similar concept. Rocker I think is very similar too, but the Wave Slave seems a little more stretched out than the Dumpster Diver. If you're a fan of the Dumpster Diver (I've had a bunch and they are one of my favourite boards ever) then you'll really like the Wave Slave!

      Wave Slave is shorter and wider, and the machine head closer to a traditional shortboard.

    nice review!! How does the Wave Slave compare to the CI sampler?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад

      shortyyys the Wave Slave is super fun and easy to surf. The Sampler is a little less forgiving, but once you click with it, it’s a super fast and high performance step-down shortboard that can do no wrong, but probably only for an intermediate to advanced surfer.

    I just got the EPS Wave slave, it s sick, catch waves like a dream, super easy to move around BUT I can t get it to go fast like other board, I feel like the board is always in control, doesnt want to fly down the line. Did you find it hard to generate speed ?

      PS i rode it with large neo glass performer, and today with 2 AM2 large on the side and a medium Performer center fin (lost the middle AM2...). Riding the 6'0, i m 84kg. Does going medium on a fin will increase the speed with less drag ? I want to love this board, everything is clicking but the speed, i dont get it

    • @TheSurfboardGuide

      Hey! Fins made a huuugggggeeeee difference in this board, and the AM2's were the one for me! I was told to ride an upright fin, but a raked fin felt much better!

    Great review bro, I just bought some Am2 fins. I currently have a shortboard with medium sized fins and wanted something with more hold since I was slipping and felt shaky. I weigh 81kg and just curious as to the Am2 performance on bigger surf since they say the back fin to be smaller.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад +2

      Hey! The center fin is only slightly smaller, so you aren't going to notice it in situations like this.
      It should feel like it is easy to release, and for quite tight turns!

    Hey mate! I am between those 3 templates too. So the Florence’s are the mid point, the AMs are the most rakey, and the Fs the most upright. For knee to waist high conditions which would you recommend? I am 5’11”, 190 lbs, for a 5’9” x 20 x 2.5 @34 lits.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      Hey! Is it for the Wave Slave? If so, I preferred the AM's which have a lot of rake, but it was recommended to ride a more upright fin, but really didn't enjoy that in this board!

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      @@jorgeandrescoppiano I find the HC AM's too stiff, and i'm pretty heavy at 90kgs. Even though the JJF's are techflex, they seem much livelier and easier to surf, it might be the epoxy construction.

    Have the Stacey Swamp Thing and Stacey Wave Slave in same dimensions. They look pretty much identical but the Swamp thing has thinner tail and maybe tiny bit thinner rails (perhaps the Swamp Thing is more like the flat head?) anyway love that thing. Have only surfed the Wave Slave a few times so far and been enjoying it a lot but need to try it in more conditions. Think it will go sick in fatter/slower waves. Craig, have you surfed the Stacey Flat Head and have a comparison to the Wave Slave? Trying to understand why Lee Stacey would release two so similar models without replacing the former?
