  • The Blade is an awesome new surfboard model from Rusty Surfboards - available in a 4 channel bottom and without channels, we check out both options!
    The two Rusty Blades that I had were both 5'10, with the channel bottom being 29.7L and the non-channel bottom being 29.5L.
    I was lucky enough to surf both boards in a wide range of conditions and was hugely impressed by the performance of both boards in most conditions.
    The Blade has a unique feel to pick it up under your arm with a thick and flat deck and a thick rail that tapers down only in the last inch of width. Transferring this rail to the water was interesting and was really keen to see how it would transfer to the water.
    The volume in the board is extremely well distributed and make paddling, surfing, and holding speed between sections and across flat spots really easy, and the 4 channels are the perfect blend of speed and hold, not being too sticky that you need to mess around with fins too much.
    Out of the two boards the channel bottom was my preference, but both boards were a blast to surf and i loved my time on them!

    Glad to see you liking a board that much. I haven't tried the blade, but i have the 5'6" Rusty SD and that one is super sick too. I find rusty's to be pretty user friendly/easy to surf in general

      Chris Fan hey! Yeah I’ve only surfed a few but been really happy. I’m actually in Bali at the moment and my friend brought a Rusty “Dozer”. Looks like a fun board too!

  • @reefslug

    Craig please help. I'm torn between a CI Fever or a rusty blade. I live in Maui and plan to use it from shoulder all the way up to head and a half (+). Which one would you pick?
    PS would your answer change if it was between the same two boards but in spine-trek and torsion spring instead of pu?
    Thanks brother. You're my guru

      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад

      Hey! Sorry for the slow reply!
      The Blade was really good, but they sound like you'd be surfing some good waves there, so I'd probably go a Fever, and I'd probably go Spinetek too so it is good on the small days too!

    How does the blade cope in 4ft-6ft range? and does it still perform well in chop affected surf with the channels?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад

      Goes amazing in anything 2-6ft. Chop, don't think it would play too much of an issue. Some boards with channels really want clean waves, but these are only belly channels, so less of an issue!

    That seems a bit low volume for a chap of your size? Is that your prefer volume?

    • @technoskill
      @technoskill 5 лет назад +3

      Agreed. A couple more liters of volume would do wonders for this gentleman, IMO.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +2

      Rohan Molligoda hey! Yeah 29-30 liters is my preferred volume in a shortboard. I guess volume is a personal thing and people should use what they feel is best for them and they are happy with. Having tried more on the past, I wasn’t happy with how it changed my surfing, so I am happy with where my boards are sitting now. 🤙

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      technoskill I guess that’s a personal preference... a couple more liters for me would feel horrible.

      wozza77able from Rusty Surfboards in Mona Vale, Sydney, Australia. But they stock the Blade in selected shops. It’s interesting to put under the arm! 💪

    im i tripping or there is black stripes going up and down during the presentation of the board ? look like you put your camera too close to an electromagnetic field or something.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      Youdig surf haha! You aren’t tripping...
      I learnt a lot about filming and lighting putting this one together...
      And the boards are E-Poly and they are crazy bright white that they are glowing under this light... 😂
      Board goes epic though! That’s the main part!

    ey man thanks for the review how much do you weigh and whats your height just wondering? would be helpful. How'd ya choose the 29.7. Even tho rusty website has a pretty efficient volume customizer. I'm 6'3 185 ride a 29.4 L rn but this board I'm super interested in just for average beachy del mar 2-6ft

    • @user-mn2jp2bb4x
      @user-mn2jp2bb4x 5 лет назад

      and second why epoly? thanks a bunch

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад

      Hey! I'm 5'10 x 90kgs. 29.7L is what i ride in other shortboards, so i tried to keep it around the same volume. This paddles and surfs more efficiently than my other shortboards of this volume, which i think is due to the thickness and condensing of the volume under your chest/front foot.

    • @user-mn2jp2bb4x
      @user-mn2jp2bb4x 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheSurfboardGuide hey so you only choose eps when it's small I can only buy about a board a year and what I hear from friends eps only works best in mushy 2-3 anything over you'd rather have a PU jw ty for the feed back take care

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад

      @@user-mn2jp2bb4x I personally think that EPS it pretty good now up to around 5-6 foot, I'm riding an EPS board at the moment for a review we'll drop next week, and it blew my mind in 6ft solid waves in Indo.
      The Blade I had was E-Poly, which is Epoxy resin on a PU blank, so kind of best of both worlds... I spoke about this in the review, but then edited it out as it was too long and was too much talking... Haha!

    what is the fcs 2 equivalent to the JJ Florence techflex fins?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  5 лет назад +1

      Ryan The Rock I don’t think it’s that simple unfortunately... I do really like the Kolohe Andino fin and it feels very similar, but I’ve never put them side/side.
      The JJF Techflex is also epoxy construction, and I’m not sure if FCS are doing fins in epoxy... sorry I can’t help more.

    PLZ. DO U THINK THIS ONE WITH CHANNELS ARE ANY HARDER TO MAKE TURNS ??? TKS

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад +1

      Hey! It wouldn't make it "harder" to turn, but the channels will increase the hold of the board, so you would likely compensate this with a smaller fin setup.

    You'd surf much better with at least a 32L board,… more like 34L
