I like how Hangman was trying to encourage rooster when he had a shot on maverick. Despite their general dislike for each other, Hangman still wanted Rooster to get the kill.
Maverick at the time, has already first handily demonstrated his airmanship skills to the new graduates that were believably "The Best of Best", Hangman obviously saw an opening, once in a lifetime opportunity whereas Rooster can down him for the first time, compare to the other gradates who've failed to managed to get a LOS shot on Maverick. They could've been looked up upon by their co-Top Gun (Naval Weapons Strike Fighter Tactics Program) airmen. If you were into that kind of thing.
Same with Maverick himself. His "You got it, don't think, just do!" was for Rooster, since Rooster was in a good position to get a kill on Maverick if he could fly a bit more aggressively and go a bit lower to the ground. Maverick was rooting for Rooster to overcome his cautious flying and take a risk to do what needed to be done.
@@karlzhao314 Explains how fighter pilots should be more aggressive in certain scenarios like Rooster was in and to not to put him down, Im not in position of that yet, but he demonstrates his lack aggression, more like an airline pilot, way too cautious, rather than Ideal fighter pilot, you should have capability to make swift/rapid decisions, also more aggressive in terms of a scenario of an real life dogfight situation. "Kill or be killed". I would kill if I were any of the pilot regardless of the risk to take the shot, risks are worth taking at necessary times in my opinion. Rooster moreover choose to be killed in a way, because he didn't want to risk, Maverick had tricks in play, no wingman, could've been a perfect if Rooster didn't doubt himself, and let fear take him.
@@MarceloVeronezzi Clearly you’ve never had a rival begore
@@Nikko557The one issue I have with this movie. They make Top Gun grads look like total amateurs. Granted that's so that you can see the difference between them and Maverick, but some of the scenes were so off. Like Mav splitting Hangman and Phoenix in a head-on pass and they didn't even notice him coming till he flew right past them. Forget checking your 6, they weren't even checking 12.
1:28 I love how in this scene, Mav did the Cobra to take Rooster out of the game but then later he does the same maneuver to protect him.
Loved that, Pete treated him like a son he never had
And also, i thought russian aircraft were the only one that are capable of cobra maneuver
@@zayyanhakim747 A few US jets are able to do the Cobra, the F-18 is one of them. The others that I know of that can pull off the maneuvers are the F-22 and F-35.
@@tytoalbasoren9457 well Wikipedia says otherwise
@@zayyanhakim747 Wikipedia, bro 😂😂
I love how the reason Rooster was angry at Maverick WASN'T Goose's death. It would've been such a cop-out
Me too I like to think Maverick stepped in as a father figure up until he did what he did and Rooster began to hate him.
@@jonathancampbell7306 I think that’s what they imply because maverick had a picture of rooster in his hanger so I’m certain maverick was a father figure to him until he pushed roosters career back
@@gutzz1519 I wonder if that's why Rooster hesitates with his decisions in the air. He was set back so perhaps every decision he makes has greater weight because he knows he needs to be perfect to make up for lost time.....and to prove himself to Maverick.
@@ghost245353 I wonder if it's making up for lost time or the subconscious admission that Mav might have been right about him not being ready.
Really? Because I’m under the impression that Rooster hates Maverick for BOTH reasons; for getting Goose killed and for pulling his papers from the Naval Academy.
This movie gonna be a classic. Just like the first. Everything was perfect imo
This one might win best picture next year.
@@randywhite3947 It won't win, but it will absolutely get nominated.
@@randywhite3947 I hope it does, it 100% deserves best picture
High budget blockbusters that involves visual effects won't win Best Picture because it's make-believe. Plus, films, based on true events, are the ones that is closest to reality and history.
@@MichealAfton1983 I agree 👍
1:33 In case you're wondering, this was not Mav being overly dismissive of Rooster. 'Knock it off' is the actual brevity code to cease combat maneuvers.
Could be both if you put it into perspective
@@Adumzzinthehouse that is true. He's not the first military character to use brevity as a means of dressing down or insulting someone.
@@Shanethefilmmaker I do think in this case he's also trying to defuse a bit on the tension in that situation. They just got out of a dangerous position and this is his "ok ease it off don't go too far".
Viper uses the same line in the original.
1:14 "Now you got it" I love how Maverick was so excited when he realized Rooster had him. He sabatoged Rooster's career, but at least he was proud of just how good he was.
He did that mainly for Rooster's mother (yes somewhat for himself, but he did it because she asked). While she didn't blame Maverick or flying in general, the poor woman still lost her husband due to fighter plane. She couldn't handle the plane taking another man she loved.
Goose may be gone, but Maverick has always looked after his family.
When Mav just casually rolls under and then over Rooster's plane is a move I just can NOT see enough of!
Such a good callback to "watch the birdie" without making it obvious
If they make a 3rd one oh my god this was priceless
Fun fact, Miles Teller said in an interview that he thought he was going to die during this stunt after the interviewer asked if there was any point in filming this movie he feared for his life. You can tell by the look on his face as they get lower.
The look on his face that's covered by the oxygen mask....
CGI
@@DanceySteveYNWA I stand corrected. His eyes (because I should’ve specified that earlier, shame on me)
@@krrsantan6775 you like his eyes huh? (Profile pic checks out)

Man this movie gave me the 'feels'. Didn’t expect to enjoy this movie that much
What I didn't expect is that the sequel was making $1 billion dollars at the box office.
Yass gaga
Same seen it three times in theaters and I’m thinking about going back more
@@superscott9780 I'm getting it on DVD.
IKR
This film is a masterpiece, its the perfect sequel and you can feel the realism because most of the stunts are real. I'm glad this is still doing extremely well at the box office ($1.4 billion)
Estou muito feliz por isso também e espero que supere muito mais.
It's a really good film. I reserve the term, "masterpiece" for other films, however.
We need box office films that don't have people dressing in superhero costumes as cash cows in today's world. Films like Top Gun, Ghost 1990, What Women Want 2000, Liar Liar 1997, and 2D animation like Disney Renaissance needs to reclaim the cinema crown.
One of the best movies for sure. Navy recruitment about to explode
People want entertainment, and superheroes give us that. No hidden messages or trying to make us think or hidden agendas, just pure fun. That’s what we want.
This movie is amazing. Also I'm shocked that Movieclips no longer have like 1/10 in their video titles.
I don't know how exactly these clips work, but I guess they have to be published by the copyright holders. It's possible they don't know how many will get published.
We did that to avoid confusion. Some people thought that the clip numbers were actually ratings and we're upset that we would give their favorite scene a 1/10 rating. Lol.
@@MOVIECLIPS Then those people were obviously mistaken. You could address it. I liked it with those numbers since it showed the scenes in chronological order.
@@Steveman27 Yeah, without them it feels kinda confusing to tell which scene is after that scene.
@@alansepicvideos9083 Indeed.
Miles Teller really looks like he could be Anthony Edwards' real life son, down to the moustaches!
I need a dna test
@@shelty3178 according to sources there is no family relationship between Anthony Edwards and Miles Teller. They just look alike
@@vanessastegallI was being sarcastic
@@shelty3178 sometimes it’s hard to tell sarcasm online.
Truth
He still calls him Sir while insulting him.
Rooster is still an officer after all.
"Don't think just do" had the feels with "the need for speed" all in motion to the "danger zone" all the way through. We'll never have a sequel like this again.
0:59 iirc in an interview Miles Teller said that in this scene he was actually in fear on losing his life when the pilot did the stunt, and you can see him getting more worried from his eyes as they flew lower and lower.
When I became an E5 in the US Army. I was eventually chosen as an NCO in my unit to have a PT fitness competition with other units in the state of Georgia. I had a private chosen to show up with me. The day of the competition I didnt set an alarm clock and never made it to the competition, but the the private did. I failed him, and I failed my unit. I spent the next couple of days in the push up position in front of my commander for my mistake. And every time he asked me if I learned my lesson, I would say no, and i continued doing push ups. I was punishing myself for letting my private and my unit down. I kept doing push ups until I had to be carried back to my barracks. The moment where Rooster is punishing himself by not stopping doing his push ups speaks to me on a very personal level. I understand your frustration, soldier.
Fun fact: This inverted scene was actually real performed by Frank “Walleye” Weisner and not CGI. Pretty darn wild.
0:09 And that's how Maverick got Hangman's respect.
Basically any pilot can perform that.
@@kypdurron62 He means because Maverick flew completely under their radar and sight
he got it even more after mav proved that the mission could be done in under 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Puts a whole new spin on "Daddy Issues". 😁😝
If you haven’t seen it, go see it. It’s brilliant.
at this point if you haven't seen it what are you doing?
@@CalvinW.Allison wait what? Where was he taken out?
@@CalvinW.Allison not really, it could have easily been different days, because Hangman was also taken out previously yet he is there flying with Rooster. You are simply assuming it was the same day.
0:24 is literally just every Ace Combat multiplayer match
I love this scene it's so much like an Ace Combat moment
Mad respect for the camera man flying xd
1:40 “go see Hondo about your push ups”
That would’ve killed my ego so badly 🤣🤣
For those fans of the original, Maverick did the “hit the brakes and fly right by” maneuver against rooster.
He performed it 3 times in the movie
Once to beat Rooster
Second time to save him
Third time to beat the enemy 5th Gen
Finally, someone noticed. It's not the same, but pretty similar
It's his signature move! Love it
The best summer blockbuster movie of 2022 🍿
Probably of this century, if we wanna be honest
This tells me that this movie is close to coming to iTunes and almost ready for blu-ray 4K
0:06 “Been here the whole time.” 😂
That shot 🥵 0:09
This whole scene is absolutely stunning and brilliant writing in the same time.
Obviously a great callback to 86 Top Gun and badassness on its own is 100.
But it also shows just how good Maverick still is at age 60(?); Rooster's beef with Maverick, his conservative nature taking over after an out of character stunt; and despite having one giant ego, and really REALLY cocky, deep down Hangman wants others around him to succeed.
Superb 👍🏻
PRACTICAL EFFECTS BEFORE CGI
That's my motto
“I was inverted” 🤣🙌🏼
0:15 watch the birdie
I finally got around to going and seeing this yesterday, and man am I glad I didn't miss it while it was still in theaters. What a great film.
I read somewhere Top Gun 3 is on the works. Not sure when production starts, though.
I love how this portrays how much American pilots practice in real airplanes, hundreds more hours per year than our next near peer adversaries, so when it comes time for war we are ready, instead of being rusty and too late to start practicing in earnest when the fighting already started.
This movie is my best theatre experience.
HOW IN THE HELL
The man, The legend. Tom cruise is legend.
Sooo good. What an amazing movie.
Im so happy channels are finally uploading clips of this lol
this scene in theaters was so damn cool
Hangman's an interesting character. He is arrogant in his skill and generally obnoxious, but he does see the bigger picture when the situation demands it. He instructed the 2 that the hard deck was approaching and then egged Rooster on to take the kill. Not totally a lone wolf.
Hangman is what iceman and Maverick were like at their peak. He maybe arrogant and obnoxious but there’s no denying he is easily the best pilot in that group of graduates especially terms of raw talent or skill and isn’t afraid to call things out if it isn’t good enough.
And then you see him in "Devotion" about the Corsair pilots in Korea. Essentially the same character. Cocky fighter jock with a heart of gold. Good stuff.
0:19 "Hehe, I'm gonna screw you up so bad..."
Got goosebumps watching this
It feels great he still uses his old move
Best cinematography ever 😳👍
Watch something else.
I love the rolling scissors
It's so personal between them😭😭

I went to see this in 4DX (The moving seats and all that) my first time ever to try 4DX and it just suited this movie so well! It was a blast!

this is the greatest movie I have ever seen
0:11 *ROOSTER be like...* 😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯
I feel the need. The need for a 4th time in IMAX.
That moment when he shows them how to “promote international relations ” and then how he scared Merlin with his classic move but this time we see it from Rooster’s cockpit.
1:24 Too late! You had your chance!
I went to see this movie because of Joseph Kosinski
I'm a fan o his work, since TRON LEGACY
i liked Hangman, he was arrogant but good, and supportive when needed.
the best scene was when maverick saved rooster and also the f14 fight was good too. I like this movie a lot
Damn now I have to watch this movie.

Give Rooster a break man, always gets toughest instructers
Just fantastic!
Beautiful scissors maneuver.
Best movie since Interstellar.
In this scene, Maverick pulls a high AoA climb and stall to get behind Rooster for a "kill"
Later on in the real mission, Maverick pulls the same maneuver to get behind Rooster to protect him from SAMs.
A Post Stall Maneuver, better known as the Cobra
Which the F/A 18 can’t do since it’s a centre thrust
@@little_weed192 just because russia can go 120° angle does not mean it's not a cobra
An SU-27 can do that sure but they need zero payloads due to how heavy it is, while F-18 with full package loadouts managed to pull a Cobra in an Airshow to 90° and that saying something
@@guts-141 The Hornet wont do a Cobra either.. you pull hard the stick it will simply go up.. it can do a high alpha at low speed ..but the departure beyond 90º without altitude change.. nope

10/10 movie, everything was just so good

The theme of this scene is pretty damn cool, a shame I could not find any clean version of it.

See me now I can't I just pissed myself laughing
Joseph Kosinski is amazing
Loved this movie! 🙌👏👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

SUPPOSEDLY... this particular sequence required the Blue Angels to actually pull off
One Blue Angel, the second pilot was the commander of Top Gun.
This was the perfect sequel to the first

Best scene. Damn that's nice.
Kinda sad that rooster blames maverick for his dads passing when it wasn’t even his fault
I don't think he actually blames Mav, maybe he just said that to hurt him
That's not what he's mad at him for. Watch the movie when you get a chance if you haven't already.
that's not what he was mad at him for.
dude stfu...you obviously didn't see the movie, so dont come and say this ignorant garbage just to score likes
Not what he was pissed at him for. Rooster fully accepted that the death of his dad wasn’t Mav’s fault
