I had such a fun time making this video. I am trying to break out of my comfort zone so I want to make more videos. If you have any questions or are looking for other workout tutorials please comment what you would like to see! have a great day!
By leveraging both sides at different levels of height (2:0) bar hole lock and using a stepper to stand would give you more downward ground to reach without hitting the floor.
I like that it doesn't require any more equipment than the basics and it lets you start from the top of the squat rather than having to do Anderson squats...or worse hoist the weight up on top of blocks.
Great idea. I was looking for a squat machine or one I could make myself. I've got a smith/cable crossover so this is perfect... saved me money 💰 👊 (Earned a new subscriber)
Even though this is 2 years old, I am SO glad I found this! I am returning my Landmine and doing the belt squat on my spotters (when they finally come in!) On another note, I see you have DBs to hold the front side of your squat rack. Does that help? Do the DBs every roll off? I may try that as well. I’m trying to look for base weight plate horns that can go in the front. Mine has built in horns in the back since it’s only a squat rack with a pull up bar. This is awesome. Can’t wait to do more quad/glute work. The only down side to this vs Landmine is needing the heavier plates on the end where you’d have a Landmine holding the barbell down.. so unless you’d have such heavy plates to begin with, you either compensate for a Landmine attachment or need to buy the heavy plates for this version of the squat. Great job.
No problem glad to help. The Dumbbells were just being stored there added no benefit As for the counter weight it takes very little to counter. My. Experience it takes 1 plate to counter 4ish. Test it out first
Excellent video. The way I did mine was: I use my landmine attached to the rack. I attach a Rogue strip 2.0 (3x3) to it. The landmine fits perfectly inside the strip on one end. On the other end I attached two rogue storage plate pins on the sides and a monster shackle with a carabiner where I attach the belt. Looks like a rogue made product. One more thing, I drilled two holes on the landmine to pass a pin through the strip and the landmine to secure it.
Just curious what's the benefit of inserting the landmine tube inside the rogue strip when the rogue strip can be attached directly to the rack post? Do you get better angles this way, more lenght? It sounds pretty cool but what are the advantages of doing it this way?? So landmine is attached to rack post, then you slide the landmine tube inside 3x3 strip where you drilled a hole through landmine to secure it to strip..then at the other end you attached two rogue pin pegs to add plates and a rogue shackle to attach belt right? It will be good to add some type of kick stand or something to it:)
I also like the idea of this guy sliding landmine inside 3x3 rogue strip and adding 2 rogue pins at the end of it and a rogue shackle to anchor spud belt. It sounds interesting too
@@ellisonfitnessinnovations Yes that is right ..I also get sessions with cable and freeweight then next session only cable or only freeweight .I find it give different feels with different angles so the muscles never get used to one way...I certainly don't want a boring routine ,more fun this way and more progress .....
Been doing these at the end of my leg workouts 5×25. I chain kettle bells behind the collar and ratchet strap the weights to the collar to keep it from sliding. Has been improving my deadlifts.💪
Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. Setting up the pivot point height, would you say it should be about knee height or just below knee height like you have here?
I would put it where the bar is just slightly above If not right at parallel to the ground when you are at your upright position. If it is too low when you stand up the chain will slide off. You would benefit from it be slightly higher than what I have in the video
Hi, are you still doing these? If you put 270bs or plates (six 45lb plates) on there how much do you think you'd feel due to the angle/leverage etc? Do you feel you can lift heavier and deeper with this than regular squats?
It depends on the depth of the bar. If during your decent you drop below the level of the bar you should be feeling the full weight of the plates you have loaded. If you start slightly higher and go to level it will slightly less. If that makes sense Might be a good follow-up video
Good to know heard that comment on "Lever Arm type belt squats." Having such a long bar probably does keep the vast majority of the weight for the lift. This looks a lot easier to setup than how I do them now which is putting spotter arm up and hanging Henny strap to it so bar can move and hopefully make less knee shear but will try yours! @@ellisonfitnessinnovations
People are crazy going out and buying expensive belt squat systems , When you can have a very effective set up for free. You could do that at a gym if you so desired.
I figured out you can do this on a Smith machine. Pallets and a belt. And the bar between ur legs. Its good because you don’t have to worry anything sliding off and the weight is directly under you. And because you have the safeties and can lock the bar in standing position.
Have you thought about using Barbell Chain Collars as an option for something to lock into? Use a regular collar to stop the weights than attach the belt squat chain to the chain collars?
@@ellisonfitnessinnovations Bought the Proloc 2 clips. Did 5 plates with no issues at all. Definitely feels a lot better being able to clip into those.
That is a common issue with this exercise especially with the heavier weight. You could try using a rolled up towel to place across your lap under the chain. Another option I have seen recently is wearing your squat belt under the dip belt to give a little cushion. Hope this helps.
The main draw to the belt squat is it mimics the standard squat but the load is pulling at the hips which takes most of the strain off the back and shoulders. You can easily get the same results from a hack squat but your loading on the shoulders and back again. You also have to ensure the placement of your feet match your squat as to much or to little ankle flextion can cause you to hit more quads or Hams. In all honesty it really comes down to what you enjoy and the equipment at your disposal. Hope this helps and if you have more questions dont hesitate to ask.
@@ellisonfitnessinnovations I really appreciate the help and time replying back. You make a valid point about using my back and loading on shoulders while doing a hack squat. I’m going to try your belt squat variation. Thanks for this great video bud. You have a new subscriber.
I will definitely look into that. We just expanded our gym to a bigger location and are getting new equipment so ill add it to my list. Hope to be posting an update video soon. Thanks for the comment!
Probably, it's just that it fulfills my needs so well. I do have experience with another belt...the Ironmond belt squat .it's is awful. The waukity is good but the set up is so impractical and time consuming @@HaizhuLau
I also forgot to ask if you count the weight on the side your not squatting on cause it shifts towards or just the side your squatting on cause it's closest to you ?
I bought a squat dip belt with chain for 75.00, alot cheaper than buying any belt squat bar set up. they cost 250 plus and this does the same thing . literally.
I use this technique but only have a 10kg on the resting end , otherwise too much just acts as a counterweight and defeats the purpose. You can still have a good amount of kg on the ‘work’ end.
I appreciate your comment but i have to disagree a little, as long as the plates stay close to the fulcrum (the rack) adding a couple plates wouldn't start to negate the weight you are lifting until you started getting 3-4 plates away. The point of the extra plate is to keep it from lifting off when it is racked, mainly when you start to max out the opposite end and the weight starts to get further from the second fulcrum. That is a good idea for a follow up video though. How much weight and at what distance from the fulcrum would it begin to negate the weight lifted. Again appreciate the comment and hope you have a great day!
Did this tonight and a random dude asked me what kind of crap i was doing and if i wanted to die. So man i m sure that s a very good exercise but im fine i'll continue normal squats
Haha it is all good belt squats are not for everyone. Its a great exercise to emulate squats without overloading the back. If you are comfortable with squats I highly recommend using them, my lower back sometimes cant keep up with my legs and to ensure I don't loose strength or endurance I like to add this in occasionally
If you have the landmine variation that goes inside the 2 inch holes in the the middle of the plates, stack up some weights on a flat bench and set up the landmine. This will to elevate the bar the same way. You dont need a rack or spotter arms to do this.

I would do even or slightly higher than starting position

1:21 best way to mess up a barbell. 😐
The bar used in the video is my lowest rated bar from dicks sporting goods and I have maxed it out several times with no damage so far.
If you have the landmine variation that goes inside the 2 inch holes in the the middle of the plates, stack up some weights on a flat bench and set up the landmine. This will to elevate the bar the same way. You dont need a rack or spotter arms to do this.
