Wow man, just watched this video and immediately went to the garage to try it. Works perfectly! Just injured my shoulder and can’t load any weight on my upper body at all for a while. I’m so happy I can still do squats like this! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hell ya man! I have a powercage and a Landmine attachment but didn't want to build blocks or have the space taken up. This is awesome! And I don't have to buy anything else. You rock man. Looking forward to this weeks second leg day. God Bless!
@TheStrengthClassroom you got it broski thanks for putting it out for us. I've seen one or two of your other videos before and they're great. I'll be watching way more now. 🙌 👊 💪
You just saved me $200 and this is a much better exercise! I almost bought the revolt squat attachment and was looking for reviews on it but came across your video. Thx!!! This is a genius idea.
You're a genius! It took me hours of browsing for different options before finding your video, but well worth it! Set up: 2 minutes Cost: $zero Functionality: A++
Capital idea my good man! I tried it! Excellent solution! I used a vehicle jack stand under mine with the landmine and although it works fine it is a pain to set up. The up starting position on your method is the key. It really makes things simple and takes the stress off.
I invented an adjustable height land mine that can be set up with the fulcrum higher. This way, you can set up like your power rack version, and take a step over using a block, or start from the bottom
i do it with a strong trekking back pack with multiple locks and clips to hold it together around my waist, just put dumbells and whatever weights you have in it and you're good to go.
I like it, but I made one with a 4x4 and just drilled a hole in the back part of the 4x4 to run the safety bar on a squat rack thru it. I attached a 1 inch black iron pipe on top with a flange and 2 eye bolts on the front for the belt and it works perfectly. I support it with a 4x4 with an attached handle. Painted it black. Less than 30$. Love it! I can only get about 225 on it so I did order the bells of steel belt squat. I could get more weight on it if I ran the iron pipe thru the 4x4 horizontally but I wanted to able to go low on certain days.
If belt squats at home were a life or death thing, you're a lifesaver. I badly need these to improve my relatively weak quads, and now hopefully have a solution.
Thanks for sharing! I just bumped into this video as I’ve been playing around with belt squat setups in my garage gym recently. I’ll have to try this one out next. Cheers
I just bought this type of belt for my home gym. Watching lots of videos on how to do a squat set up. But I have been doing donkey calf raises with it. Those are super good, I’ve never worked out my calves that well, so if I could just come up with a squat set up, it’ll be perfect.
This is a long time after...but I have been using the landmine variation on raised platforms. It is true as stated here that the 45 pound plates are huge, so the platform is necessary. The main issue is I have to start in the squatted position to hook on. So my first movement is from squat to standing. I actually found it is not as hard if I use my hands on my knees as leverage to stand up the first time (or use handles or something else to hold on to to pull yourself up). Again, it is true as stated here that you solve one problem only to create another. But for someone who works out alone, it might be worth the effort.
@@TheStrengthClassroom I hadn't even heard about belt squats until about 1.5 years back ... they have been a god send as I had a back operation (L4/L5) 3 years back and a compressed vertebra in my upper back ... these along with Bulgarian squats work wonderfully together.
Thank you! I bought a great Spud belt, and haven’t figured out how to use it for last 6 month....been doing landmine version but you’re right it’s awkward and limited motion range. Will defo try this tomorrow
Buy 2 pieces of steel pipe 2-3 inch long, one piece to slide over your rack pin,the other to slide your barbell through, so just over the two diameters of pin and bar, weld them together crossways small on top of the bigger diameter,so small tube is in line with rack, while larger tube is pointing out towards side of rack, place your bar through and put collar on
@@TheStrengthClassroom just tried them man did 3x10 with 2 plates felt great no pain in back and quads were pumped big time..gonna do these in combination with a smolov bench until my back heals up..I can honestly say I think my legs will be stronger by the time my injury heals..just subscribed to your channel..thanks again
I took a 2 x 10, a pulley and two 32" cables and built a platform that allows me to belt squat both 200 lb weight stacks of my functional trainer. It works really well for my age and strength , the only downside is I have to start from the squat position
@@TheStrengthClassroom One tweak that you might want to try. Next time, utilize a safety strap instead of a j hook to support the far end of the barbell. This allows you to work in between two uprights and give you the option to use band pegs as handles. Thanks again for the great content!
I recently bought the revolt attachment- waiting on it Just saw this -pretty cool I think I could set up the other safety bar higher and if needed use it for balance or as a “dig deep” to squeeze out a few more reps - and ugh I do have lots of fat fat bumper plates.
4:35 this looks good but i have some adjustements. 1. Why do we need belts that are pulling us forwards? A belt or chains around thehips that connects the weights vertically downwards the spine would be better so we can do squats while our spine is straight. i did not come across a belt that is designed the way i think it should be and thought about creating one with chains.

It ok no body recognizes me from my bearded days. Yes it iss just 2 j hooks. THis would be a good option if you have no safety arms. Another would be to rest it on a benh or something elevated but it might not be high enough.
My gym has either this kind where I wouldn’t have one end of the barbell elevated www.biggerfasterstronger.com/products/muscle-d-md-sr or something similar to this one, where I could use a safety bar on the inside, but then I would have to mess around with plates under my feet to avoid hitting the cross metal bar on the ground urbansports.ie/shop/strength/racks/crossfit-multifunctional-squat-rack/ So I’m thinking of using two J hooks on the outside of the second one, but wanted to make sure that a J hook is safe enough for the pivot.

Skip the lower J-cup and go w a long removable band peg! Thanks for sharing!

Stand closer to the weight sso that it is right under you seems to help
I like your version.. very ingenious.... Which do you believe it's better the Rogue belt squat or wenning belt squat machine?
Honestly I like the Wenning version better. That is why I made my makeshift version to mimic that one.
I m doing the DIY metodh, but the belt chain is "cutting" my inside leg, any solution ?
Youre going to need a dedicated belt squat belt. The cloth portion of it is much longer and even if it rubs on your legs it will not bother you.

Safer to have one end of the bar attached to the rack. I use a landmine attached to my rack with a spotter arm on the other side.
I've never felt in danger but if that makes you feel safer that's all that matters.
It looks good, but I don’t have a rack. 😔
