  • There is a new firmware update for the FT2DR that allows you to turn it into a Wires-X node. I used the SCU-39 wire kit to connect the radio to a Windows 10 laptop.

    This is pretty cool but I think I'd rather go the Hotspot route (although more expensive) just for more versatility and not worry about being tethered to a computer all the time. Just upgraded from a baofeng to an ft3dr. I'm pretty excited to play with all these new functions.

    Question: I'm just getting started with all this and I'm having an issue. Just like you I have it all set up: HRI Mode direct on my FT2D and it's good in digital mode; BUT when I'm transmitting in analog mode (but pushing the V/M button getting the asterisk*) I get feedback. Is this making any sense? I've followed the instructions from the WIRES-X PDN Function Instruction manual to a 'T'.

    I’m in direct and can receive audio. When I transmit it only shows local when I key the radio. It does not transmit over the net and make it to the room. Anyone run into this problem?

  • @chunkylover54
    @chunkylover54 4 года назад +1

    when you connect the splitter are you doing it to the actual jack or the dongle that they supplied in the kit trying to figure this out myself. having the hand mic would be a lot easier

    • @douglasgerard
      @douglasgerard 4 года назад

      I'm guessing the splitter goes straight into the radio jack and the dongle into the splitter.

    Here is a different rub, My FT300 and my FT70 will both connect to my hotspot and talk through a wires-x room, BUT my FT5 will not get through to the room. They can talk back and forth on the reflector, but the FT5 won't cross the bridge. Any ideas??

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse  2 года назад +1

      I’d check that your actually getting into wiresx it’s likely just the overlay for controls.

      @@HamRadioCrashCourse HI, Not sure what you mean by that. I am making it through with my FTM300 and my FT70....I can hear myself coming back through on the local repeater. But not with the FT5

    Wayyyyy toooo complicated even for a tech-savvy 70-something like me. Already have an FT-70, don’t care about mobile, so FTM-100 and an HRI-200 makes a lot more sense. It’s about $360 for ft2dr and cable kit, and for just 60 bucks more I can get the ftm100 and the hri. No brainer for me. Thanks for video and making up my mind.

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse  5 лет назад

      I think I'm with you on that one. The FTM-100 and HRI-200 is going to give you an easier setup and more power.

    It's more interesting to setup a Jumbospot with YSF2DMR or simply YSF than WiresX.. more people to talk with... More cheap and freedom to make changes and improvements.
