Build A WiresX Node for almost free

- After Saturday's net I've had questions about how people can get onto WiresX. Here's a foolproof method. Build your own node. If you own a Yaesu fusion compatible radio, you have 1/3 of the ingredients necessary.
Join me on Saturday Mornings 0900 Mountain time where we discuss the real important issues facing us in the near future. WiresX room 40448, YSF 56026 RUclipsrs or catch the live stream.

I wish I could join the net on work most Saturdays so that will be hard but when I am off I. Will check in.
You can actually go a little cheaper if you already have the USB-68 Cable from RT Systems. A lot of us purchase the RT Systems software to program the radio, and the USB-68 cable works just fine as a drop-in replacement for the SCU-55 cable for Wires-X. I use it with my FT5D setup as a Wires-X node without issue.
Good to know. Thanks.
Excellent video. I wish I had seen it sooner. Too many people on RUclips overcomplicate this subject. KUDOS for KUDA 😊
Really fun and informative video. TNX DE M0IUR.
Hey Bob, might want to let folks know SCU-55 is required for windows 11. Awesome video
Everything works accept being able to transmit. It just lights up local. I haven’t been able to figure it out. Two days of working on it. Plugged into pc.
Scu57 for hand held radios and scu58 is for mobiles.
Thanks for clarifying
Thanks Bob this is exactly the information I was looking for I couldn’t find exactly this information so succinctly and fit for purpose.
Does anyone know the difference between the SCU-19, SCU-20, and SCU-55? I’m trying to find the highest value (read: cheap) adapter cable for the FT-70DR.
Ordered SCU-57 per chuck’s comments. Only 6 left at HRO. Bob created a run on niche radio geek gear!
If you computer is running windows 10 or 11 you’ll need the scu 55. I tried kludging the scu 20 cable and it was a nightmare.
Pro-tip FT-70 cannot work as a PDN. I had to return the SCU-56 unopened. Signing up for Wires-X I got stumped by the request for RadioID and learned PDN capability just aren’t there! Does work for every other Yaesu C4FM HT!
I have a node I run full time in the shack.
Can you do a video on the mmdvm raspberri pi. Using ysf on the bradmeister dashboard. I looked into this but I think I need a bridge or more hardware or both
I did this years ago before the openspot came out. Once I got my hands on that, I never looked back.
Any chance you will add your node to pi-star YSF list? Many of us have ft-70's or other radios with pi-star for all comms but can't join your node until you add it.
You can get to it from YSF 56026 (RUclipsrs)
Ack I should have watched the previous video, thanks! @@K6UDA
I have the FTM400XDR mobile and the 991a base station, will the SCU 55 WORK on either one of these radios?
I think the SCU 20 cable that came with the 400 might work.
question, I have a Keenwood TM-742A attached to a Astron SL-11a. It runs fine however, when I key the mic, the power to the radio shuts off. Please help.
For some reason the power supply isn't giving you full power to the radio. does it do this on all power levels?
Make sure the wires are securely connected to both the power supply and the radio. I have seen wires come loose from the power supply and cause the same issue.
Does your Wires-X node/room stay online all the time? I finally got my FTM-100 working on WiresX thanks to this video. When I try to connect to 40448 I get a message “ canceled, call to analog node or analog and digital room” followed by “disconnected”. I can get in to 28054 KC-Wide and it works. Figured maybe your node isn’t online at the moment.
40448 is up and running full time. It’s a digital only room. You have to setup your node to connect digitally.
@@K6UDA thank you, I’ve got something to work on!
Okay I’m stuck. Anytime I connect to 40448 I get the same error. I’m not sure how to tell it to connect digitally. WiresX app shows IDLE DIGITAL in the top right.
@@cchalfantusa Are you using an HRI200 or are you doing a PDN node? there may be two different methods of configuring your radio. You'll have to read the manual to find out which one you did and which one you need.
@@K6UDA I’ll do some more reading. I’m using a FTM-100 in the HRI mode with a FT-70 HT. I had the same error in PDN mode with DIRECT and using the hand mic on the FTM-100 directly. It’s strange because I can connect to KC-Wide and Illinois-Link without any issues, I agree it is operator error and back to the manual I go!
Wow! I didn't know it was that easy. I have an FT-70D and I'll order the dongle today 👍 I knew there had to be an easier way! DE W9CRJ
Will the SCU-55 work with my FT-70 or do I have to spend lots more money?
Does the ft 70 have a usb mini port? If so ten yes. It’s the same.
@@K6UDA He y Bob, found this out from Yaesu: For your information, the portable digital node (PDN) can be set up with the FT5D, FT3D, FT2D, FTM-500D, FTM-400XD/FTM-400D, FTM-300D, FTM-200D and FTM-100D transceivers. Portable Digital Node function is not available with any other models, as of today.
Can't be done with my FT-70, so I'd have to spend lots of money which I don't have. Shucky darn!
Just rewatched this 4 year old vid.. (Dang i've worked here that long or longer? yup 5) Anyway. Was going to see if you had a wires-x update in regard's to a modern pi-star hotspot or setup of a shack. ruclips.net/video/RghsOLCv_mU/видео.html&ab_channel=K6UDA . This will do. :) FYI: Ready for Skynet. Bring it Alexa.
But will it work when the government shuts down the Internet? I like my radios without wires. Not even the wonders of the twisted pair of the Government Internet. But that's just me. I'm Blowzo the Humble Ham of course.
DIT DIT Sir
Here’s my take. Our government knows that everyone is so addicted to the Internet, that shutting down the entire infrastructure would create mass revolt, especially in the youth in my humble opinion they wouldn’t dare do it. It’s the biggest distraction they have going for them.
Now if you’re talking something like an EMP attack or some outside attack to the grid then yes things like wiresx, DMR networks and interlinked repeaters are vulnerable. But let’s face it did you stop using electricity because the possibility is there that we would lose it someday? my opinion, we use it while we’ve got it and if, and when it goes away, we go back to the old way of doing things.
