    Over the last 3 years I have done several watch reviews and videos and people always complain that I am rough with the watch, that I bang them around and mishandle them.
    These must be people who have never owned or worn one of these watches. The Rolex sport models are virtually indestructable.
    If you have a polished dress watch, you are more careful with it only because you don't want to scratch the polish on it.
    However, the all stainless models that do not have the polished center links, can be treated as badly as you want.
    You can wack them on door knobs, lay on the ground and scratch them on the concrete, you can take it off and toss it on the table.
    You can put it in your pocket with your keys.
    YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BREAK IT.
    If you were to slam it on the concrete, you could break the crystal or crack a ruby inside, which has happened to one of my Subs and I had to replace the pallet fork.
    I wore the same Rolex 2-tone Submariner for 15 years straight, it was a 1990 model I bought in 2004.
    I wore this watch daily as a car mechanic and fabricator.
    Every once in a while I would re-polish it myself on a buffing wheel, but then I started doing a satin brush finish on it using a purple Scotch-Brite.
    Yes, that's right, I did in the sink. I get constant compliments on the finish.
    When it gets scratched up, about every 6 months, I re-polish it.
    I don't give a shit about it's value and sellability and originality, I am not selling it and if I do, I don't care, so please save me the speech, I don't care.

      I’ve a GMT from 1977. Getting out of my old BMW 1600 I caught the bracelet on the door latch and bent the bracelet’s catch. I also managed to pull the bezel off my old Explorer on the frame of my refrigerator! Yes they’re tough but not unbreakable!

    Thank you for taking risks with your Rolex! I've been training to self-service my own Day-Date. There's plenty of self-help videos out there and TBH it's really not too difficult taking apart and putting it back together the movement. It makes watch ownership that much more enjoyable.

      I promise you they aren't priced that way because of rubys and quality. The gold has value, the watch is well made, but for the prices they sell for and resell for is all because of the name. It is what it is and unfortunately I love every bit of their scam.

    Hi, useful video, thanks! But my Sub stem seems like one piece and ends with a rubber padding in the crown. Does that mean it is welded in? I need to replace the crown as the threads inside has worn out. The stem is fine. Thanks in advance.

    Hey man, great video, I'm doing something similar, trying to replace some parts on my submariner, where can I order parts, like a bezel spring and bezel insert?

  • @macmorgan6685
    @macmorgan6685 2 месяца назад

    In 1966 I could have bought a submariner at the PX in Giessen Germany for $125.00. I bought the Omega Speedmaster instead for $94.00 because that’s all I had in my checking account! My 77 GMT was $325.00 and I paid $400.00 for my used Explorer. Pretty good investments!

  • @24hourgmtchannel64
    @24hourgmtchannel64 4 года назад +1

    Yep, that's how its done. Just be sure to only grab it by the tread portion only. You have tritium dial and hands so if you ever sent it to Rolex for service, they will recommend to replace them with superluminova service replacements. Unfortunately this will devalue the watch. My recommendation is to see if you can source out a good used gold tritium minute hand from a reputable watch seller on ebay and send the watch with the hand to an independent Rolex service shop that can still get parts like the pallet fork. They will likely be half the price of a RSC.

    • @mikejones-dx8bx
      @mikejones-dx8bx 4 года назад +2

      Yeah, I wouldn't trust RSC. They are stubborn, greedy snakes.

    Subbed. This video was heaven! - (is it true that Rolex will ‘confiscate’ parts they’ve not put onto the watch an the service centre themselves, if you were to send this in for any works. I have a feeling I read that somewhere and it might of course be rubbish haha) loved the video for your personality! Awesome.

    • @robertford5195

      If your Rolex is out of warranty there really is no reason to send it to Rolex Service Center. Any decent-sized town will have competent watch repairmen with Rolex parts.

  • @mikebruegger8654

    That "T" after Swiss on the bottom of the dial denotes radioactive luminous. It is not however as potent as the stuff used when it first appeared years back.

  • @EscapePlan97

    1. A better underlay would be more suiting
    2. The crown is supposed to point upwards with watch laying on it´s caseback
    3. Touching the movement with bare fingers is no good
    4. The "rubies/jewels" are man made and synthetic
    5. It´s your watch -you can do whatever the heck you want with it

    It seems one of them is a fake crown. As I can watch in the video old crown has 2 dots (twinlock) and the new one has 3 dots (triplock). Submarkner uses triplock.
    Perhaps is just only low video res or too much wearing on the old crown
