    I can't find flat crown gaskets that sit at the back of the crown...like the one you removed and left off. Only O- ring style. Are they common?? Thanks

    I have a submariner with a stripped crown similar to the watch in the video. If I fix it will I only need a new crown or a new case aswell?

    Where can I get a flat crown gasket for a 1984 Datejust? And is there a crystal gasket for the Datejust?, as I watched a couple of videos of the crystal being replaced, and they did not show one, and in fact, did not show using any kind of adhesive either?

    Cool solution! And I thought it's called a crown tube, not a crown post. Or is that a regional name?

    Hi, i have a blancpain villeret 40mm watch in stainless steel 2 years old (2020) watch and i noticed that it is stiff when i try to wind it. It has 72 hours power reserve.
    Example: When i wind it, it is tight..
    I have to pull out the crown then i have to push it back in, in order for it to be buttery smooth when i wind it. It keeps excellent time BUT it is just stiff/tight if i wind it without pulling out the crown and pushing it back in first.. feels like resistance..
    Any idea on what could it be? I dont have warranty.
    My jlc reverso is so smooth , i dont have to pull out crown and push back in for it to be smooth wind.
    Which type of silicone/oil for the crown gasket do you recommend?

    Hey Peter, very useful video also very interesting.I have an omega prebond, I removed the movement from the case, the crown does not seem to have the flat gasket in it, can this be a normal thing, not sure where to find that replacement gasket., should I send it for a services? Thanks

    • @watchesandjewelry
      @watchesandjewelry  3 года назад

      Depends on the model of the watch and the number of gaskets in the case tube. If there are two gaskets on the case tube. One inside and one out you should be fine

    You must be a certified rolex watch repairer, you can't get the parts for cases if you're not, great to see that you can fix it without sending it to those gready bastards

    • @watchesandjewelry

      There is always a way to get parts! The industry (watch industry) changed last year... It will get even more difficult to get parts for almost every type of high end watch (watches over $2,000.00). It saddens me that the industry as a whole, treats repair shops so badly... However, I have always worked with my “competitors”. I can offer them things that they cannot get/do, and they do the same... Additionally, the manufacturers have completely forgotten the second hand market. This market is much larger than the new/retail market. Those customers, the second hand customers, would gladly move into the new market if they were reassured on their current ownership of luxury watches. This is true of almost any industry!

    How often do you have to replace the gaskets? I am seriously skeptical that this needs to be done every two years, which is a claim I've read online. But can you replace gaskets without disassembling the movement? If so, maybe it's a very easy and low cost job? How much would you charge to replace all gaskets on a Rolex?

    • @watchesandjewelry
      @watchesandjewelry  3 года назад

      You have to use common sense ( not much left of that). Do you wear your watch in the pool? In the ocean, or dive with it? Salk and chemicals will work their way in over time and break down the rubber or silicone. If that is the case then yes, have your watch checked frequently depending on how much of those things you do. If you are like the other 90% of people, your gaskets may last a very long time. Other then dirt and chemicals, normal average usage will not typically wear out a gasket. Other than age

    • @ams914
      @ams914 3 года назад

      @@watchesandjewelry Thanks for the answer! Yes, well that's exactly it. I'm not taking the watches in water most of the time, but in pools or maybe a hot tub a few weeks out of each year. I would bet most use cases are like that. So while exposure isn't my concern, it's more a question of TIME with that kind of usage. But I see why definitive answers may be impossible.

    My crown only turns and grips backwards when I spin foreward it doesnt grip, any suggestions?

    • @watchesandjewelry
      @watchesandjewelry  3 года назад

      Hello Mike; There are many reasons why a crown would only turn in one directly only... Most of them would require a service of the watch. The simplest reason, is that the auto winder is dirty and needs service, and would recommend a full service of the watch. A lot of independent watchmakers sadly skip that part, and it is equally as important to the watch mechanism. Another reason is that the clutch or setting gears are worn or damaged, and would require replacement since they can not be repaired. This is usually due to poor service, dropping, or aggressive winding. The last reason is that the stem has become dis-engaged from the clutch's proper position, and sometimes, this can be as simple as pulling the crown out to the first or second position, and turning it in either directly to see if it falls back into place. However, be careful, because if there is damage, it will be difficult to turn and you could make things worse. Again, this may happen due to poor service, or dropping. I would recommend that you have the watch serviced and make sure to tell the servicer that you want the auto winding system cleaned as well. Full services of a watch should include the mainspring, as it is common practice to include this in the service, however, check with the service provider you use. If you have little luck, let me know, as I am available to help.

    damn.. 800 bucks for a crown... Why not just a generic yellow crown? better to have a generic crown and good water seal than OEM crown that is missing a gasket.. no ?

    Why not offer the customer the option of of ordering a good used one off eBay? I've found most sellers of used Rolex parts including crowns are aware they are going to get a return if they sold one with stripped threads. Just look at the reviews and buy the seller. You can find gold 5.3mm ones under $200 used many times for $150 and in good reusable shape. Been doing this of years now and have never had an issue.

    That looks like a 20 dollar watch but it was a really good idea to thread the crown attachment; as bad luck would have it(and this is true for all kinds of high price, or high END things,cars included,i am in that repair field lol), it does not work,the rubber seal is gone; same rubber as in a 5 dollar watch, buna-n probably.

    Hi MyJewelrybench, first of all thank you for the vids (they are quite good) but... it's very bad to see you stripping and fixing Rolex movements/cases/tubes without protected fingers. Always use fingercondoms because your skin has all kinds of grease and acid which can hurt the metal and such!!!. When you take a look at your own Rolex tube removal/refitting your prints are all over the crystal. Please protect your watches agains bare skin contact. It's very hard to see you do this like that... other then that , thanks for the vids. Keep m up!

    You are a butcher. Any watchmaker should wear finger cotts and never touch the movement with your fingers you did in the first few seconds. I wouldn’t trust you with a timer never mind a Rolex. Did you pressure test it . I think not.

      @Luke Skywalker fair point, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that there is value in a competent 3rd party service that doesn't do "the works" but only repairs/replaces a small portion, but also at a lower cost.
