    As a beginner this tutorial was a real big help, thanks. Is too easy to get bogged down with tech, run before you walk and lose motivation. But help me to build knowledge at the right level and at a steady pace.

    By far, the best tutorial I've seen regarding 24 fps and 4K recording. I'm an absolute beginner and I just ordered the Shiyun Smooth 4 gimbal for my iphone XS. I also purchased the Filmic Pro app and have been messing with it until I get the gimbal this Friday. I will at some point play around with the settings to see what I like but for now, I was just looking for someone to tell me what to set it to so I can at least get going on it. That's just how I learn. Looking forward to move videos! Keep it simple for beginners like us or those of us who don't have all day watching some just talk. You were actually showing your viewers exactly what you were doing. Ty!

    Great video! Do I have to fix the shutter speed at 1/48 for the 24fps? I have long been searching for information when I ran to your video.

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  6 лет назад +1

      Hi! I’m glad you asked this question because it’s actually a function I forgot to mention in the video. Yes, a rule of thumb is to always double your shutter speed to match your fps. In the FiLMiC Pro app, you can press and hold on the exposure circle to get access to shutter speed and iso settings.

    Great video! I’m wanting to use my iPad Air and FilmicPro but it doesn’t have the Flat or Log profile capabilities. I’m guessing it will only shoot in natural mode. Will I be limited when color grading?

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      Yes, you will be a little limited in that you won’t have as much dynamic range when color grading, which means you can’t get as much contrast in the dark and light color values. But, you should be able to make it work with some of the standard color options. thanks for watching, and keep in touch!

    I have an iPhone 7 Plus with 128gb of storage. Do you know how fast I'll run out of space if I shoot in 4k? I'm gonna shoot some stuff at Disneyland soon and I'll be there all day. Any recommendations?

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  6 лет назад

      Roughly, a 2 minute clip filmed in 4K with the extreme codec is going to take up about 1GB of data. At least, that seems to be the case on my system. Your battery is going to drain really fast using FiLMiC Pro, so keep that in mind also.

  • @balkhan619
    @balkhan619 6 лет назад

    You should create the sequence in the aspect ratio that you want, for example 2.39:1, instead of using PNG file. Or better yet, shoot in FilmicPro with black bars so that while your composition and framing is better

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  6 лет назад

      If you’re not comfortable with color correcting you can apply a lut to your footage. It kind of takes the guesswork out for you. Or, you can just film in natural if you want to bypass the color correcting process all together.

    Nice video! I wanna know.. is there a reason to add the letterboxing at the 8th step? why dont you just film it with an aspect ratio of 2.39:1 or 2.59?

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      Thanks! I suppose it comes down to personal preference? You can certainly shoot your film in those aspect ratios, but I personally like the freedom the overlaying letterboxes give me to play around with my framing in post.

    • @PraetorianBen
      @PraetorianBen 7 лет назад +1

      Piedmont Motion Picture
      Why not change the aspect ratio in Premiere Pro then, instead of using the black bar overlay?
      That way, you can still play around with framing and users with ultra wide monitors don’t experience black borders on the left and right.

    Hi - do you do anything to your footage before going to Premiere? I sometimes find it freaks out with the variable frame rate.(even when set in Filmic Pro) Do your clips save to the filmic pro or through camera roll? This is a great tutorial regardless though. Thanks for taking the time.

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      Hi, Toby. Aside from the setting I mentioned in the video, I don't do anything else. I do save the videos to my camera roll though, and use the airdrop feature to transfer them between my phone and laptop. Thanks for watching!

    • @eastcarolinacreative3746
      @eastcarolinacreative3746 7 лет назад

      I was under the impression that saving the clips to your camera roll actually compresses them and in order to the full res clips from filmic, you need to save the clips by accessing filmicpro's video folder on your phone in iTunes.

    Great video, I have one question to ask.
    I am planning to shoot some travel video near future.
    And I am currently using iPhone X + Moment wide lens + Filmic pro + gimbal to shoot videos.
    For 4k 24fps recording, I found that it's hard to keep 1/50 shutter speed during the sunny day (it's way too over-exposed).
    I am thinking about buying a variable ND filter with a filter mount but this set starts to get bulky and it's getting harder to balance on the gimbal.
    Is it worth to invest ND filter for the smoother look? (not many RUclipsrs talks about it, and even a good-looking iPhone cinematic video claims that they don't use any other attachments)
    or should I add motion blurs at post-production stage? (does it works well?)
    This problem makes me think that I should get the Sony a6500 with a wide lens, which would be a hassle-free (except the weight).
    Any good advice?
    Thanks.

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  4 года назад

      So sorry for the late reply! There are many ND filters that are light-weight, and should work just fine with the gimbal.

    Hi hello I have been watching your videos and they are great. I am doing a project, short film, horror movie, using iPhone se with filmic pro. I am having trouble, shooting at night time to get night effect, I'm observing small dots blinking in the video, like in this video on the display of your laptop. • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      Hello Arun, and thanks for watching! I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. One of the biggest drawbacks with shooting on iPhone is unfortunately, the low-light performance. The dots you mentioned are probably noise caused by the lack of light. You can try lighting your scene better and lower the exposure in post and color grading with a day-to-night blue look to help make up for it. What specifically do you need help with as far as log and flat?

      Do you have any tutorial for what you suggested me? 'cause I didn't get you.
      Do you want me to go on shooting at night with improved lighting and edit in the post production or shoot at day and convert it into the night scene.
      I want you to help me know how to use flat and log to get film look.
      Please help me, I need your great help and I'm sorry I'm having problem with the language, 'cause English is not my native language.

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      Arun Varma Hi Arun, I was suggesting that you still try to film at night, but ensure that your subject is well lit (for darkness). You can also try to shoot during the day and color grade for night, although I’m not a very big fan of this look. But whichever method gets you the best results...this video actually touches on using flat or log picture profiles in filmic pro, and I will have a special video coming very soon about using luts specifically for the log and flat profiles for filmic pro.

      Do you have any tutorial for day to night shoot ? Or you have any tips for me to shoot in day and to convert it to night scene.

    Why should we use 24 frame rate?
    If we use 50/60 frame rate, we will be able to make video more cinematic, slow and smooth.. i'm a newbie at filmmaking

    • @RyanCampFilms
      @RyanCampFilms  7 лет назад

      24fps has been the standard for motion pictures for many years. 24 creates a nice motion blur in your images. Here in America, our television shows are shot at 30fps, so anything at that rate reminds Americans (such as myself) of watching television. There have been many films that have shot at higher frame rates, but for the most part, 24 has been the tradition. When we go up to higher frame rates like 60 or 96 we start to get those great slow-motion shots. I’ll make a quick video explaining fps soon!

    Great tutorial -thanks! Here’s the first music video I ever shot. I was experiencing some hiccups with the Canon DSLR due to our only available time and place to shoot was 11AM on a clear and very bright Saturday morning on a mall rooftop and I was totally unprepared having previously only filmed indoors. I was forced to improvise and shot with 2stationary Go-Pro’s and my iPhone mounted on a custom rig. Ever since I have started shifting my attention to shooting mostly on iPhone. ruclips.net/video/u2hbe8J2YSA/видео.html

      Piedmont Motion Picture I have 3 different cages that function as stabilizers(one is seen at the end of the dance video). The latest stabilizer was made out of an old Jobi mini Gorrilapod, some 20mm PVC pipe, an old mic clip, and some rubberizing paint. Works nice as a handheld stabilizer or tripod for low or desktop shots. I usually shoot with the native app, but sometimes use Movie Pro(especially for B-roll). Started editing in Lumafusion recently but FCPX and Motion is hard to beat for ease when you have a laptop on hand.

    Thanks for the tutorial! Yesterday filmed my first video and tried to hold your instructions in mind. Also tried to use some LUTs and color grading, which was difficult enough as the nature in this season is kind of grey everywhere. Used my Iphone 7 and everything is filmed, while using only hands.
