Vu, glad to see you doing some DIY maintenance on a Cayenne. I wrote you an email about the 958 Cayenne's transfer case and I look forward to a video on this item and whether or not this prone to failure part is in fact the Achilles heel of the 958 and as such buyer beware or if this is something that can be fixed for 100K's of miles without incident. Thank you.
This is a good way to fix this problem as long your shaft is well-balanced. if the shaft is slightly unbalanced this will not go well. The fact the part is a little bigger than the original center bearing makes touch the tunnel ending in vibration under the center console.
I have never seen a video of such detail that instills so much confidence in the watcher. Please continue I am tempted o do this job (not a mechanic in anyway but love diy) what do you advise Vu?!
OMG, Trillions like and best comment for you because you are best on Earth and follower respect you, we need videos in Real 120fps or 240fps 8K HDR10+ Dolby Vision IQ resolution clarity quality and Sound in FullHD Surrounded 3D Dolby Atmos
Many people have this part fail after doing a job or making some kind of repair involving the drive shaft. Some people don't know that the plate where the bearing support rests has an alignment that has to be strictly followed if not the bearing will fail prematurely or over time.
Very good video could you give me the name of the repair kit. The same thing is happening to my cayenne and would like to do this instead of buying a new drive shaft
The issue with this short cut repair is the "solution" costs more than doing it the conventional way even factoring in labor to remove the shaft . I had my shaft rebuilt for $200 as in my search I found several Porsche indy's that will either rebuild and balance or exchange your old shaft for a much more competitive price plus around $150 to re and re the shaft back in.
Removing, rebuilding, and reinstalling shaft is certainly an option. What we liked about this solution is that from start to finish it took about two hours, and that was doing it for the first time and taking time to film. Your approach above takes the vehicle out of commission for a longer period I would imagine. Total cost for this repair was $399 not including labor. DIY labor was free :)
Hello there. Thanks for making this video. It’s great 👍🏻. I’ve got to do exactly the same on my Porsche cayenne. Can you pls share from I can get the repair kit please 🙏

Hi Vu, minh ten la Long. Thank you for the video. I tool the transfer case cover off to change the chain inside. I didn't mark where the driveshaft attach to the transfer case. Now that I got everything back in, I cant drive over 30 mph. it felt like the driveshaft is out of balance. Is that possible? Or did I damage the driveshaft when I pried it off the transfer case? Thank you
@@PorscheClubofAmerica Thank you Vu. The driveshaft was not attached back onto the transfer case correctly. While I was at home waiting for Hurricane Milton, I jacked up the car again double check with the photos I took before I did the job. You are 100% right. I corrected the mistake. My 200K cayenne now drives and accelerates smoothly. Thank you so much!

Hey man. I’m trying to put this exact piece on my Cayenne 2005 and it’s not fitting it seems small and I called up to Europeanparts and they’re saying to cut the shell off of the barring I’m confused and I’m halfway through the process I’m super lost literally my first car just wanna cruise man
Yes, there maybe an outer case on your bearing that needs to be removed. It is covered in the instructions. The bearing in the video did not require. Shouldn't be hard to do, just a bit more time. Good luck.
I like it but it seems entirely dependent on the condition of the bearing and seals. Would it not be more appropriate to title the video: how to modify the driveshaft center support bearing on your etc…?
Got mine today and the damn thing doesnt fit around my 2004 porsche cayenne bearing. I grind on the part to see if it'll fit but still too small. Hope I get my money back. Yup I say never buy these things
No, No, No! This is a lazy man's approach which fails to address the equally worn out CV joints. Do it right and replace the whole cardan shaft. I found a reasonably priced aftermarket shaft on amazon.
As mentioned in the video, replacing the whole shaft is an option. Your concern about the worn cv joint maybe valid. That said, the techs we work with have never seen the cv joint on a Cayenne carden shaft fail. Keep us posted on how the aftermarket shaft works out for you.
One of the best DIY videos I watched... very good...thank you

Thanks for the kind words!
You don't have to take the exhaust off, just need a swivel and extension to get to the differential triple square bolts.
Thanks for the tip!

did this repair in 2017....The part went bad again this weekend. it was five years almost to the day. But, only 4500 miles. Just FYI.

That’s an amazing price to rebuild a driveshaft. I expect to pay between C$500-1000.
@@tomalcolm I paid $1,000 Canadian to get mine rebuilt and installed. Wish I knew about this method at the time

Might check that you reattached the axle onto transfer case properly. If it isn't centered, you'll definitely get a vibration.

Very interesting repair!
My Cayenne turbo has a vibration at high speeds only when I give it a good amount of throttle, do you think this is the probable cause? Thanks!
It could be. Check by grabbing the driveshaft as we did in the video.
I have the same experience with my Cayenne Turbo. Hope somebody can share how to solve the problem. Thank You
Was it the driveline or ignition coils/spark plugs?
I’ll be doing this over the weekend.
Any reason that the bearing fix done first over the guibo? Thanks.
Might as well do the guibo while you're there but I suppose you could do it later.
That’s good 💪, where could I buy the piece?
We bought ours on Amazon.
