    Those bars look good on there! Bars swaps can get expensive with the brake line, cables and extending the electrical, especially on the touring bikes.

      You ain’t wrong about the expense, my friend! These bars are really comfy! Especially on longer rides.

      the black looks so much better. I'm pleased with this build so far. I'm going with something VERY different with the exhaust. I can't wait to share the vid!

    Good job on the brake lines Joe! I dread doing any kind of brake line work and always leave it to my experienced biker/mechanic friend. LOL

    So I work in the industrial hydraulic supply industry. And one of the lines I sell is Brakequip. When I started watching this video I was like.... O.o NOOOOOOOOOO! what is Joe doing? Why is he using clear braided line on a black bike???? The style of end you are using are commonly know as "field ends" for people like yourself fixing a leak or breakdown out of shop. Hence field end or "re-useable end" .
    Then you switched to the other style. I couldn't tell if they were JIC/SAE ends or not with the adaptor banjos. If they are.... Rule of thumb in the industry. You tighten them hand snug. Then tighten them a 1/4 turn. If you go too tight. The flare on the female can crack or even the nut from over tightening. That is IF those were JIC/SAE ends on the hose.
    Otherwise, looks good.

      The first TC bros line I used is a go to for a ton of Sportster, Dyna, snd Softail owners. I fixed it and I’m actually going to use it on another Honda project I have in the garage. For the second Goodridge line, I don’t think I could have gone over a 1/4 turn if I tried harder. I put on 50 or so miles since I did them. They work great.

    Any recommendation on the length of an extended brake line kit for this? My initial thought was +4” would be sufficient. Going to go with the tc bros 8”. Thanks joe.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  2 года назад

      I installed the 40” Goodridge braided brake line. For my 8” handlebars that I installed this is the perfect length. A 4” line would be perfect if you can cut to length. See if you can track down a 40” or 42” Goodridge line. I paid about $40 for mine and installation was stupid easy.

    So that's all you had to replace is the brake lines?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  9 месяцев назад

      That’s right. Clutch and electrical are long enough for these 8” bars.

    Did you have to replace the top and bottom front brake line or just the one?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  2 года назад

      I’m not sure what you mean by top and bottom. There’s only one front brake line and I replaced it.

    • @seamusolfert5648
      @seamusolfert5648 2 года назад

      @@GreatEgret Does your bike have ABS? There should be an upper and lower front brake line. One that goes to the ABS module and one that goes to the calliper.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  2 года назад +1

      Oh, I see what you mean. I don’t have ABS, so it’s just one line. I used to have a Sportster with ABS. When I swapped the handlebars on the ABS Sportster, I replaced the entire line by buying one with the module connector. Much easier than just replacing the line from the master cylinder to the module connector and you just bleed as you normally would.

      @seamusolfert5648 2 года назад

      @@GreatEgret Can you shoot me a link for that line you’re talking about? Would I be able to get away with just replacing the lower line and leaving the upper line the way it is?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  2 года назад

      I’m assuming you want mini apes installed.
      If you want to just replace the upper or lower, this is what you need: www.denniskirk.com/magnum-shielding/black-xr-stainless-extreme-response-front-brake-line-kit-w-abs-4-and-8-sbc1326-25.p1912900.prd/1912900.sku
      If you want to replace the whole thing, you’ll need this: www.denniskirk.com/drag-specialties/front-extended-length-black-vinyl-abs-brake-line-12-1741-5341.p1914267.prd/1914267.sku
      That second option would be better with full apes.

    Loving these project vids.
    Wondering if you thought of buying an Iron 1200 before buying this 883? It would have come with the bars you want. A small fairing. Plus the extra power.
    I’ve got a 2021 Iron 1200. Love everything except the AMF paint. I like it. But don’t love it (the paint).

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, man! I thought about it. Here’s why I didn’t:
      1. The price of this used 883 + mods = less than a Iron 1200
      2. The chumps and the Iron 1200 bars do look similar, but they are different enough for my needs. The Chumps are narrower at the top and center and have more pullback.
      3. I really want to experience converting the 883 to a 1200/1250/1275. Wrenching is a big part of the experience and enjoyment for me. Include the experience of the other mods it was a no-brainer.
      3. I owned a 2017 883 that looked the exact same. This olive gold is amazing and I was nostalgic for it.
      4. Like you, I just can’t get into the AMC graphics. I’d have to spend more money on a paint job just to get rid of it.

    Nice handlebar but too much wires and cables ruins the look. They're all over the place

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  7 месяцев назад +1

      This isn’t the end of the install. This is only installation of a new brake line. They need to be like this to figure out placement before buttoning everything up. They’re cleaned up at the end of this series.
