      @@philw3353 No mystery on the subject of free boats. They can be had about anywhere. If anyone had not noticed, boating in general is down substantially with larger boats. Maintenance, storage and mooring fees being the number one reasons, Any abandoned boat or boat that has been on the hard a year or two is ripe for the pickings. An owner wants to get out from under the storage costs if the yard has not already taken possession and they want to just recoop as much as they can on it and free up the space. I could be wrong but have seen it too many times. If they need an engine, sails or both, someone would probably pay you to take the boat. Not so much the smaller boats, people stash them under a tree to rot for 10years before they give it away.

    Rolled taquitos. In So Cal they’re corn tortillas usually filled with beef or chicken rolled up then fried (or baked if frozen). Then topped with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo. Serve with red or green salsa.

Good choice of anchorage, its always worth a satisfying laugh to look east -- look west -- realize that you have the same view as those suckers who paid a few million dollars for some big dumb house that wouldn't sail worth a damn even if it could float. Give a shout out on the way back thru the point, we'll take care of you guys! That way you don't have to stop in Titusville... I mean, seriously.. Titusville!?!?! Yuck! Yeah free boats. Or 1$ boats. Same thing. I don't know WHY there is an attraction. The problems add at least up to, if not over the cost of just going out and getting a proper vessel. And cost is not just in money but time, pain, suffering, rinse repeat.

    I'm a bit confused as to why you are motoring in the ICW as opposed to sailing outside. The ICW can be quite beautiful, but don't you think it is a trip you can take in a trawler when you are in your mid 60s?

  • @matyxcz
    @matyxcz 5 лет назад +3

    Hi there! I'm watching your channel for ages, like 4 years from the beginning. The reason is, apart from that you make interesting and entertaining videos, my slow but steady plan to move to liveaboard and travel around world with my wife once kids will be "out of town" ;-) and every experience taken by others is valuable. But to my question, because it's something ringing bell back in my mind quite often - why did you choose sailboat over again, when you do quite a lot of motoring in the end? I'm opt for a sailboat (single hull) myself, but if was planning to spend such amount of time motoring around, due to different reasons (safe anchoring, ICW, windlessness, too much wind, bad wind direction), I'd go for a motorsailor. What was your motive to choose a sailboat after all instead of motorsailor?

    • @WickedSalty
      @WickedSalty  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you! I guess we've always been on a sailboat seems like it's also what we know. Also when the going get rough I'd rather be on a sailboat, there's also the cost thing which is huge on us, we don't really have the luxury of many options, this boat vs that, more like which 30 ft sailboat do we want. Also don't have the budget on fuel, it's rather light on our diesel inboard compared to everything else, even how much we've done. I'd rather sail with the perfect wind while cruising any day, but I feel most of the choices on weather windows leads to light air, or light air at nose too where we still are trying to make 50+ nm in one day so motorsailing gets the job done there. Then also comes our issue with charging. Have not figured out the charging, the laptops, the cameras, iphones, fans, batteries, external battery charges, portbable vhfs, hand lights. Running the engine helps solve that issue too while getting us as far as we need. It felt like it was not until we reached the bahamas where we could chose weather windows based on wind direction etc, every other time we're just looking for the calmer less daunting conditions mostly cold until florida. Hope that helps.

    • @matyxcz
      @matyxcz 5 лет назад +1

      @@WickedSalty Thank you very much for your reply! So generally it's the combination of motoring being cheaper on a sailboat (with less power and speed which doesn't bother you too much) than on a much heavier motorsailer fitted with a more powerfull engine, at the same time cheaper boat purchase compared to a motorsailer, and after all the joy of free sailing when the conditions favored it. That makes sense to me, and once again thanks for answering my question. Wish you a safe and joyfull journey and godspeed!!! p.s. perhaps we'll meet in Bahamas in few years, who knows ;-)
