Pikmin 2's tutorial rocked my socks off, actually. But then, much to my horror, Louie came out of my TV and attempted to sacrifice me to the devil. I got better, thankfully.
"Broken" is a bit of a strong word for a tutorial that only starts to break if you do a quite specific and counterintuitive thing to begin with. The term I'd use is "fragile". Given the freedom you have to move and throw things around in Pikmin 2, I'm honestly surprised there aren't more glitches that emerge from normal gameplay. The game is pretty robust, all things considered. By the way, I can see why people dislike this tutorial, as it certainly feels a bit dull on repeat playthroughs, but at least it's short! I've had games, including some I love, waste way more of my time setting things up.
I love pikmin 2, but every replay always has that beginning part of "Am I replaying this again too soon?" before I realize that was just fucking immense boredom of the trashy tutorial, and the game starts for real once I get to the Perplexing Pool

So I’m working on a set of rules for a pikmin 4 ultra hard mode, and this is what that looks like: Anything that stops you from collecting a treasure or castaway meets the criteria for exceptions to certain rules listed. - [ ] ZERO Oatchi upgrades, except for automatically given ones and the go here command - [ ] Oatchi is entirely banned, he has to stay idle at the base and can only go to do what he is absolutely required for and then back. - [ ] Ice and glow pikmin are completely banned, Ice pikmin are allowed for hydro jellies ONLY, Ice Blasts are allowed to cover for them only if ice pikmin are not present. Glow pikmin are allowed in night missions, glow seeds and glow mobs are banned. - [ ] NO Items. This includes Spicy Spray, Bomb rocks (except for stone walls, and ice walls but only if they are required to be removed.) Pikpik carrots, the Lightning stun, mines, trackonators, ice blasts Scrummy Bones, and Emergency Medkits. However, The Drone, Idlers alert, and homesick signal are still allowed. - [ ] ZERO lab upgrades/Purchaseable items. The only exceptions are the Treasure gauge, And allowed pack items. The charge horn is allowed ONLY for dandori missions. - [ ] Red onion only! Every other pikmin type including blues and yellows has to be collected underground or from a candy pop bud. - [ ] Only an additional 4 flarlic is allowed, for a maximum of 60 pikmin! Exceeding this number is only allowed in dandori challenges. - [ ] No resetting! Pikmin death is permanent! - [ ] Bonus finds, mystery capsules, and sending the sneak bomb to your opponent in dandori battles are all banned! You can still defend your own onion from the sneak bomb. If an item becomes a bonus find after you pick it up, then you still may collect it, but you cannot collect any others once you see that it is a bonus find. - [ ] You have to allow the water wraith to spawn in every floor in the engulfed castle before you can start moving. - [ ] You cannot destroy the smoky progg eggs in night missions.

I mean sure, you could skip the tutorial by killing one little pikmin. But, then I'd have to deal with that single pikmin kill count on the results screen during a no death run, and I don't like that.
i skip the spherical atlas in emergence cave so i can get extra purple pikmin on the 2nd visit. You can just start the game with more purples like this.

ESPECIALLY Pikmin 2 where EVERYTHING wants you so dead, the infinite time doesn't actually make the game easier (in fact it ironically makes it HARDER as the more time you spend, the more natural events appear that make bringing stuff back harder, like Beady long legs spawning in perplexing pool and the worm enemies eating the ultra spicy/bitter flowers, though you do get the bees every 30 days.)
I feel like I should ask since this seems like one of few reliable places to look for people who're actually fans of the series. Is Pikmin 4 any good? I played a couple of hours of it but the tutorial was so slow that I ended up dropping it. I 100% Pikmin 1 and 2 and I beat 3, 4 just puts me off in ways I can't properly explain.

How about make the ice pikmin completely banned, even for hydro jellies. You even acknowledge ice blasts so I see no problem
