Welcome to the lumix family!
Love it
We will soon see why ...Oct. 8th❤😂
@@Hsyunē haha you know things!!!
Enjoy the S5 iiX its a fabulous little powerhouse!!
@@EdProsser thanks brother. Been watching your content for a while and loving it
Really hope you enjoy the Lumix S5IIX mate! Solid camera
Welcome! I also moved from Canon to Lumix and holy shit is this camera insane.
I bought this camera. I felt a bit mislead by reviews on RUclips since almost no one mentions that you can only record open gate in LongGOP. Not B.raw, not ProRes, not allintra, not with an SSD. All of which are much better than LongGOP. Even when attaching an external recorder, open gate is only LongGOP.
Excellent choice for videos. S5IIX is an amazing mini cine camera, I have been having lot of fun since last year with it.
Welcome to the tribe brother man!
Hahaha the darkside
proud user of Lumix cameras since 2008. Never looked bacl. Lumix for ever.
Welcome to the club bro- best value camera on the market
Thank you
Got myself the S5IIX a few months ago and still growing into it, nice to see the open gate in action as I haven't started using that feature yet!
I got the s5, had it for a few years, it is an everyday work horse, very solid and dependable, been in rain, mud and heat.. has never let me down. The image quality is still amazing. The s5 2 is definitely on my wish list just for the auto focus alone, if not anything else…
I’m waiting for the S1H II. Excited to see what comes with that camera.😊
Recently got the s5iix myself, lumix does throw everything and the kitchen sink in their cameras.
Great value for the money.
Welcome to the club. I switched, but I'm not done with Sony. Got rid of my A7RV for the S5IIX. It's a tool and so many Sony fanboys/girls get butt hurt when they hear people moving from Sony to other brands. Some don't use these tools for an income and don't really understand it at times. I'm a Sony fanboy. As a realist, I knew buying the S5IIX was a no-brainer for the work I do.
Haha yeah that seems to be the go for the whole internet. People forgetting that they’re tools for the job we need to do and the s5iix is exactly that
i m a lumix fanboy and i had to buy a sony.... i hate my life, hahaha
@@sardanapalos it happens. Unfortunately, there is no one perfect tool. Yet!
@@danielbarajasmedia i thought lumix would do it when they launched the s5iix that we waited for 3 years but the drawbacks are too many for how i use my cameras... still maybe the s5iii will make it....
@@sardanapalos other than 4k 60p full frame there is no reason to go Sony. It might change in a couple of months though
The S5iix offers unbeatable value for money, great colour science, decent AF (at last) excellent ibis and goid battery life for a very hood price.
Nah excellent af very much on par with sony
The S5iiX is an absolute beast. I've been shooting cinematics with it. It is a fantastic hybrid camera, but it for sure is a great cinema cam.
I'm so stoked for you to have the s5iix! Please make tons of content for us with it!
I've been using the s5ii for 1.5ish years and love it. I kept dreaming about the A7siii and fx3 for wedding films, then had the chance to use them and was surprised that I immediately missed the S5ii. Also for grading V-log I've been loving Panasonic's official "vintage" LUT, it's been even easier to work with than the standard Rec709 official LUT due to how it handles highlight rolloff.
WELCOME TO THE ANAMORPHIC CLUB! Hopfully more manufactures give us open gate. I honestly dont see it happening anytime soon sadly.
What do you want from the next firmware update on Lumix s5IIX in terms of more ANAMORPHIC support?
@@moojoo1972 it pretty much has everything. Maybe anamorphic destretch through HDMI? Maybe verticle destretch? lol they really have done everything we need!
@@cammackey I enjoy your videos and learning from you.
I use an Adata SSD, not listed, and works perfectly well. I love this camera.
Been watching your channel for a while even though you’re mainly a Sony shooter man cuz you have valuable content. As me being a lumix gh7 S5iix shooter This is pretty cool to see. After all they are tools. 👍🏽
Lumix ergonomie when it comes to vidéo is top notch and the colour science is incredible i love the VLOG of Panasonic
Dslr style cameras are terrible for video ergonomics
@@JojoJoget what are your go to camera ?
Been using mine since release, external BRAW with ibis and autofocus is an absolute game changer, minimal processing looks so good with the 6K BRAW!. And then running stripped down with internal/SSD recording is lovely. Absolute powerhouse in a small body.
I watched your videos many times in past and eventually got both the VA 7" and the BMCC6k. BTW your 3d print of ssd battery holder for VA doesnt fit.
@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird I had to use a screwdriver and bore the hole of the battery pin a bit - the 3d printer leaves down residue in the hole. And hmm that's strange, works great on my side. If you elaborate what doesn't work I can try to fix it.
@@alihammad6318 I think its pretty much the pin holes. ill bore them out.
Love how you’re showing your lighting skills
Got one a few months ago and I’m glad I did. I was deciding between the S5II and the S5IIX. Ultimately I caved because of the blacked out look but now that I’m experimenting with video I’m realizing what an amazing camera it is.
Its exciting to see more people and creators give Lumix a chance.
Absolutely love my S5iix rig. Incredible camera!
Awesome stuff, Jason! 👏
2025 is gonna be the great content creator migration from Sony to Lumix
In the process of trading my FX30 for a Panasonic S5II, kinda a no brainer when you consider price to feature value.
Sony gotta start offering open gate
Only if the S1HII (or whatever it's called) comes soon and with the right featureset and price. The S5II/X are not going to do the trick, especially once the A7V comes out around the same price point.
No it’s not.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema YES!

Welcome to the Lumix Fam!
Thank you 🎉
I am really glad I bought myself the Panasonic S5iix. Well worth the upgrade coming from a GH series.
S5 II owner here , great little camera , Personally it's far from being my favorit but it is great.
I plan on adding the 1.8 primes for AF videos , and Meike cina T 2.1 for manual focus work , they look great to start with .
I just love that Panasonic give users open gate in full frame. Hard to find that in these cheaper cameras
Welcome to the Dark Side! Looking forward to seeing what you produce with this camera!
Haha I can’t wait
I currently own the Lumix G9 m4/3 and i love it. total tactical camera and well rounded for a non-specialist like me. But Im dying to get to full frame before I start upgrading my lens. This one looks amazing and seems to be a good option to move up.
I’m happy that you talking about that camera can’t wait to see more
Enjoy! Love mine. As well as all the great features, one that doesn't get spoken about enough if Vlog. Such a great Log profile to grade from.
Welcome to the lumix family 🎉🎉
Love the lighting in this episode. Noted the light you used. Be great to see a behind the scenes lighting vid. Love your channel
I have the lumix s5ii and its just as good as the s5iix LUMIX really hit a home run with this camera
Welcome family brooooo❤
Good man! You know it makes sense to have one.
Haha yeah the right tool for the job
Mine is coming in the mail
almost full S5iix kit
Nice 🔥
I was thinking about it but I believe the S5IIIX is around the corner.
awesome! i'm sure you will love the camera and grow into its myriad of settings for video, would be great if you could make some videos about the best ways to expose for V-LOG, using all the tools available as you had done for sony using zebras etc, the best workflow tips and grading tips for V-LOG + all the content you make from it will obviously be amazing to see, glad to see this video!
I am looking at getting a S5 or S5II or S5IIX..probably more like a S5II not sure if I would use the extra features of the S5IIX
I feel the same way! Since I don’t use those extra features.
Welcome in lumix gang
OMG, Welcome to the Lumix!
You should also buy Blackmagic Video Assist and you can record BRAW out of lumix which is amazing codec, and color science is great, and you can do a lot in post with it, it is far superior to internal HVEC and even proresRAW...
Love to see what you create with this camera
Can’t wait
Love your vibe bro 💪🏽🎥🔥
S5iiX is a such a great tool. We have BlackMagic and Sony cameras as well but keep on using the S5iix for pretty much everything now because everything you mentioned. If you need autofocus lenses, consider the Canon EF lenses with the Sigma to L adapter. We pretty much bought the full lineup of Canon EF lenses used since so many people are switching to RF. The autofocus works great and the EF lenses can go on our Blackmagic and Sony cameras as well.
Are they really? i was wandering how the sigma Adapter makes the lenses work with AF. Maybe its worth looking into. I just bought Sigma 28-45 f.1.8 zoom whitch is amaziing best zoom aut there for L-mount for filmmaking, but some canon lenses are also great.
I have an Ursa G2, and I’m looking for a B cam. I was considering the S5IIX, but I didn’t know the adapter allows AF for EF lenses. That’s nice to hear! ;-) By the way, are you happy with the image quality compared to your Blackmagic? That’s my main concern, to be honest. At first, I was considering the Komodo because I fell in love with the global shutter and the image quality.
@@jeansebastienleger after buying blackmagic video assist I can change to blackmagic color science and it's great. Using internal Lumix codec its not as good. But it's important to mention when outputting raw to video assist you don't have open gate with I miss and you don't have iso control in BRAW settings you can use exposure slider that gives you the full dynamic range available. But the overall look is indistinguishable.
@@RandallMartinPL I don't have the Blackmagic Video Assist yet, only the Ninja V. Do you know if it's possible to record BRAW with the Ninja? To be honest, I was waiting for the S1H Mark II, but I thought it would be released this year, and there's still no news about it. I think I'll wait until the end of the year and see if anything comes up before making a decision 😉
@@jeansebastienleger I love my S5iiXs and I am very happy with the image quality but I also loved my Blackmagics. We were on the Pocket 4K so that is not a fair comparison to the Ursa G2. If you're considering the Komodo for global shutter, the S5iiX has kind of terrible rolling shutter. The S5iiX is really good for certain kinds of projects and shooters. If autofocus, shooting stills, and budget/value are important then the S5iiX and S5ii are great options. We do a lot of multicamera stuff so I need at least 3-4 bodies. And I prefer having all the same bodies. It makes moving from one camera to another much easier on our brains. I seriously considered the Komodo and Komodo X as well but budget, autofocus, and shooting stills were important for us. We don't shoot a lot of fast moving, high action stuff so the global shutter isn't that big a deal to us. The S5iiX offers us the most flexibility. We can shoot VLOG on almost everything except the most fast turnaround stuff. And VLOG is so easy to work with. Plus, if we need to shoot RAW it's super easy with a Blackmagic Video Assist or an Atomos. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend renting an S5iiX for a week or two. Do your tests, etc. and see if it is a good match for you.
Lumix internal cooling is definitely a huge win.
good info. but i heard it has very bad moire issues. any thoughts?
Ayyyyyye, let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🔥

Glad to have one
Welcome to the LUMIX family
:D another with the panny - I have an S5II and this is the first camera in all that i've tried that doesnt give me the feeling of lack of features or value. Looking forward to 4k 120 and no crop 4kk 60 in their next releases
Lookin jacked, bro
4:39 the most cinematic camera review online😂
About time😊
You should upgrade from the knock of PL adapters to the original Hot Rod PL. Then you can get rid of rotational play, and get accurate focus marks.
Are there enough auto type setting's for both video & still images that a novice could grow into this camera?
Thanks!
Great Camera ❤
I still want to try a cheap anamorphic lens on my Fuji X-S20 that also has open gate but not all the video tools of Lumix.
Sirui 1.33x anamorphic lenses are perfect!
I want to get this hybrid camera for surf photo and videograpy, but I can't decide yet because of what I heard about rolling shutter.. Can someone help me with experience? maybe just stick with Sony a7 iv
Great little camera. I wish I had've kept mine.
I think, thanks to the latest update, you can record simultaneously to an SSD and an SD card using the “proxy recording” feature (or something like that). I’m not sure about the highest quality you can choose though, but it saves you in a pinch !
Subbing just because I got the s5 ii lol, but this video is awesome!
I’ve had the S5 for a couple of years now and vowed never to change it because it just works however seeing these s5iix videos is not helping that promise 😂😂
You should try to get your hands on the Blazar Remus lenses, I bet a lot of people would like to hear what you think about them.
Been eyeing up those s5s for sure. Just so gutted to loose all the Sony glass on them so probably holding out to see if the a75 gives us anamorphic support. Hopefully the pressure from other brands will make them see the light on this.
If you don't need the SSD functionality, a used S1H would arguably be a better choice for this use case (manual anamorphic lenses). The S1H has an OLPF so no aliasing/moire, and less processing/sharpening than the new cameras (S5II/S5IIX/S9), which are a little crunchy-looking, especially in the linear profiles.
S1H open gate is only 48Hz or 60Hz, no 50Hz…so old PAL system countries (like Australia) where productions are 25fps/50Hz, can be a bit compromised. No such issues on the S5iiX, and you can send it away to Kolari for OLPF conversion if you have a spare US$699
I am okay with a black pro mist 1/8 filter which I use on any digital camera anyway. Yes. but I should still want to avoid those situations by changing the angle of shooting.
Hi!
Can you make a detail comparisson between the FX30 and S5 mark ii?
Not sure if I will compare
Lol he can't do that, he'd lose half his viewers
@@Studiotek no I because it is comparing full frame and aps-c in different systems. I’d do s5iix vs a7 iv though
@@JasonMorrisphotocinemadon’t do the a7iv comparison… it’ll hurt 😂 I literally bought a a7iv because of your videos
Dude I love both Sony and Lumix. I have both and use them daily.
Brilliant cameras
Well….i have also received mine yesterday…..after buying 3x S5ii :D
Holy heck! Nice
You gonna love it..
Can’t wait
Great review. But I am wondering, why not GH7?
I love this for you!
Be honest with yourself….you’ve been wanting to jump ship for ages and deep down you know the Lumix cameras are amazing 😜
😂😂😂
The Lumix S5 is also quite good for photos.
Doesn't have the support for Capture One or Lightroom tethering,
but there are workarounds.
Yeah I bet. I’ve only got the kit lens so not sure if I’ll use it otherwise
Open gate plus true Super 35 mode at 10.4ms rolling shutter.
I have the S1 and Cinema 6k and use the Black Magic Video Assist for the S1 and it now shoot in 5.9k not just open gate but 6k in 17:9 as well.
I now have 2 6k cameras. The S1 is 5 years all with every feature you mentioned for the S5iix.
Just shows how far behind Sony truly is. Sony is just getting shutter angle. We had it for years.
I think Sony e mount is the issue, take your lens off and you’ll notice the sensor corners are covered by the mount itself.
So still for this year Fx30 or this camera? i really want to buy one for video and content creation.
Hi Jason. How do you assess Lumix S5 IIx vs Sony A7 IV keeping in mind log profiles and general output like dynamic range, noise etc? I am an m43 shooter and still do not know which camera mentioned above would be a better choice... I am afraid of moire from S5 IIx output and having some Pentax glass, a focus map in Sony could be beneficial. Do you recommend shooting all intra if there is some/ plenty of motion? PS I like your videos by the way.
Them Cato lenses though!!! ❤😮❤😮
They’re delish🔥🔥
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema looking forward to your in-depth review!
Lumix is the Point of no return!
Last month i sold my a7iv with 200k shutter count and countless hours of video for a lumix s5iix and sigma 24-70mm mark ii, with a free 50mm f1.8 lens. im very happy.
Do you notice the AF worse on the s5iix?
@@ProjectLabz only if you go higher than 12800 iso
ayo new sponsorship period started 🔥 🤑
Haha god no. Surely by now people will understand I’m not a “Sony paid shooter”. I’ve been using other brands for ages and I’m not married to one brand
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema well, in my case I have to go with Sony because I can transition from A mount to E mount while using all my six f 2.8-1.4 lenses while i save for more. Besides I think Sony is enough for me. I don't see any reason to go for Fuji, their gear is expensive and their native APS-C glass is unreachable, now imagine the medium format lenses. It's a blessing they opened to third party lenses like Tamron because otherwise nuh and uh.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema you'd be surprised how many self proclaimed photographers/videographers are actually plain sponsorers whose money comes from spewing specs on RUclips with a nice bokeh
just L tier content in my opinion. True photographers that show anything else other than how they prepare their stuff cinematically is where it is at. Just like the A6700 hs A7IV autofocus battle, how are you going to believe someone who says that "boxing the subject is better than actually acquiring the shot within the selected AF points", A7IV has 90 percent hit rate while A6700 barely does 70. Why they lie about it and make a6700 seem better? You know it: sponsorship of the FOTY product!
Now I'll keep commissioning 3d artworks til I can pay for an A7IV and the LA-EA5 without going bankrupt
Switched from canon to the S1 years ago. I own the s5iix no and love it
can you please compare it with the FX3 or A7S3 or ZVE1 ( the closer in price) on handheld video please
i think the faster readout speed of the fx3 gives more pleasing motion in handheld video ( not slow mo) when moving but im not sure. if you could test it out. i have looked for many reviews but can't really find this
The S5iiX is a great fun camera, way more interesting that Sony
I got a pre order in for the canon c80, it's healthy to not be 100% locked into one eco system.
2x Anamorphic? Could that be the new Blazar Cato lenses on lease to you? 🤔 just a wild guess but they have been hinting those new lenses with a price release coming soon in October
Hi Jason! Are you using the unreleased Blazar Cato 2X Full Frame anamorphic lenses? I am so excited for this release! I use the 1.5X Aivascope adapter with my 50mm f1.2 CanonFD, but the Blazar upcoming release is very exciting with that small form factor! The Anamorphic characteristics in this video looks fantastic. :)
Would you reccomend the s5iix or the sony a7IV. I already have a zve1 as a travel/b cam.
Except sports and full frame slow-mo in 4K, S5IIX is king in everything else. I have been using it since last one year and I am mostly into travel and run n gun type shooting where the IBIS comes very handy and I love their small lens line up with equal size and weight. Now I mostly shoot in the 6K open gate, very handy to use same video in vertical and horizontal formats. Only negative is rolling shutter and no 4K full frame slo-mo though it can shoot 120 fps (or even more? haven't tried) in full frame but resolution is limited to FHD.
@@OasisExplorer Agreed with your reasons, the 6k open gate is really dope. But Sony has a few extra advantages other than just full frame slow mo.
1) Bigger lens & camera ecosystem, especially when you consider the fact that you can't share lenses between the S5ii and the m4/3 cameras, whereas with Sony all the lenses work for all the cameras.
2) While Panasonic's AF is way more improved than before, Sony's AF is still superior if you're shooting sports or fast run and gun events.
3) A7IV has a 33mp sensor which means two things a) it's better for photography, and b) the 4k image is sharper because it downsamples from 7k.
4) Sony is more popular. More people shoot with it and more clients request it, so it's easier to collaborate with others (at least in a corporate/documentary shooting setting).
5) Lastly, you gotta remember we're comparing cameras that came out two years apart. Sony's newer line ups isn't that far off, their new cameras will probably close the gap even more.
@@randomhuman9706 Clients ask for Sony cameras? Lol what?
@@randomhuman9706I think the point 33mp vs 24mp makes it “better for photography” is a stretch. Depending on your needs it may be, but you could equally argue the 96MP handheld high res mode makes the LUMIX better for photography.
Arguing that the Sony video is sharper due to being down-sampled from 7K also a stretch given that the Lumix shoots in 6K outright.
@Studiotek Unfortunately yes. Some clients have specific requests for cameras, and other videographers also prefer hiring 2nd/3rd shooters that have the same cameras.
How is the dynamic range compared to like the fx3 or fx6? Is it as flexible or more so?
Buying a FX30 and Lumix S5IIx is the best of both worlds.
Yeah for sure. Super35 and full frame combo
Sony's aps-c lens choice is just miserable, otherwise a perfect camera like s5iix
@@DespotRus tons of good options from Sigma, I'd say the lens choice is great!
What section Lumix coming in video description - MAIN CAMERAS or SECONDARY CAMERAS? ))))
Haha that whole list needs updating still make it there somewhere
And don’t forget you can use real time luts and match it with any camera
What took you so long? Seriously curious. Have you just started using anamorphic and therefore in need of the Open Gate and anamorphic desqueeze? Because then I understand. Otherwise, these features you’re mentioning have been there already for years with LUMIX.
I’ve only recently got 2x anamorphics. 1.5 or 1.6x squeeze isn’t so bad on a 16:9 sensor. But 2x really needs open gate
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema ah okay. Well in that case I’d say welcome to the family 👍🏼
