- This was the final appearance of Vickers VC10 Registration ZD241 at the Bruntingthorpe Cold War jets day in 2019. The aircraft has now been broken up for scrap and much of the remaining collection at Bruntingthorpe dispersed elsewhere or similarly broken up for scrap.
What a beautiful aircraft..love the v section at the top of the tail section. Flew in this from RAF Brize Norton as an air cadet in the early 70's sheer class!!
I was there with my son, a brilliant day out we'll never forget, what a waste of a lovely and historic British aircraft, I hope the site owners are proud of scrapping this icon.
A sad farewell to a beautiful speed Bird! Thanks for the services well done, my Bird!
The Vickers VC10 truly was "Queen of the skies" ❤️
Neil Foster.........hardly, if it wasn't for the military sales of this type there would have only been about 30 of them built. Consider that over 1000 707's and 550 DC8's were built. The DC-9 was a direct competitor and it's still flying cargo.
Really sad news. I flew on them in between 76 and 83, when i was in the Army. Beautiful aircraft, and sounded fantastic. When i was based at Airport Camp in Belize between 79 and 1980 i used to go outside and watch them landing and taking off! Felt like
a really solid and safe aircraft too. So sad it did not sell better, but that was largely down to politics. RIP. VC 10.
It even sounds beautiful.
To think ive done photoshoots on that aircraft and now its gone....
Pretty plane.
☮
Yeah, you can't keep 'em all in airworthy condition... Sad, but true.
A tragic end to a beautiful aircraft, I wish i had the money and somewhere to keep it to save it from being scrapped. 😭
Teasing this beutiful bird into take off , that's not right.
Why was it scrapped? Çouln't it have been put on static display somewhere so we could still enjoy looking at this lovely aircraft? Really sad and i annoyed it has been 'taken' from us.
Yes it's a shame. I don't really know the answer to that, I presume they couldn't find a home for it after the airfield was sold off to use for car storage... and of course there would be the value of the scrap metal.
There vc10 at top gear test track belongs to brooklands museum
Those coway engines were very similar to speys. They are loud and crackle due to fuelling at high load.Modern bypass engines are fantastic engineering and much more efficient but noise wise.....Yawn.The VC10 was designed with the four engines at the back to make passenger experience quieter because the engines were so loud.It was a passenger aircraft but the RAF ordered a few as transport. However due to its high tail a bit like the Tristar and Trident it was able to enter a deep stall in the wrong hands apparantly if you were used to planes with wing mounted engines?
Glenn..........the L-1011 Tristar didn't have a T-tail. The 727 and DC9 did.
Los aviones de fabricacion Rusa, tienen muy buena imagen y presentacion, son excelentes.

@@jamesnicholls1054 es verdad, una disculpa pir mi ignorancia Ok'

And those Russian planes were copies of this and other western aircraft.
@markhepworth while some were I wouldn't say the Tu 134,154,114 Yak 40,42 and the Il 86,96 and 62(though that can be debated) we're copies
