A little late to the party, but this is the one thing I don't think Dr. Frank Turek is right about. One, I'm a Calvinist. Two, his argument is being challenged well by this kid he just didn't capitalize on the points he was making in the moment. Would love someone on Frank's side to talk to about it in this comment section. So if you're seeing this please respond so you can help me talk through it. Thank you!

The Bible strictly depicts a flat, motionless, geocentric earth with a firmament containing everything...
      1) "earth is fixed; immovable"...
Also, God stopped the sun and moon, which tells us the celestial lights in the sky are moving, not the earth (just as our God given senses tells us)
      2) devil takes Jesus up on a mountain and shows Jesus ALL THE KINGDOMS... Not possible on a globe...
      3) "circle of the earth"
This is basic shapes... I need not say more...
Also, the "heliocentric solar system" [Helios (Greek sun god) Sin Trick Soul Lure System] literally has satanic emblems and coding through out the design; as I just detailed in the name itself...
      1) Google search: "how eclipses work"... It will show you a diagram... Keep that diagram in mind... 2nd Google search: "sigil of Lucifer"... It's literally the exact same design as "how eclipses are claimed to work on the ball earth model"...
      2) ball earth is said to be tilted at a 23.4° angle... 90° - 23.4° = 66.6°...

I recognise the thoughtproces of the student. Something that helped me to solve that 'dilemma' is to realise that having knowledge about something doesn't mean you caused it. The dilemma of God having knowledge about what a free human being is going to decide before making a decision could be solved by realising that a decision of a human being is free, but not arbitrary. The complexity that still remains in that is something God can solve with His infinite intellect.

    • @zindexcourses
      @zindexcourses 2 года назад +31

Specially because what happens in the moment of judgement is preceded by my other things. A person doesn't just go to hell, there's a life before it, there are choices, there are thoughts, feelings, decisions, thousands and thousands of decisions before a human ends up before the throne of God to be judged, and we often forget about that when we think about God sending people to hell.

    • @hypnotank
      @hypnotank 2 года назад +31

Another way I reconciled this is in order for our universe and creation to exist, God must be outside of the constraints we are held to in order for it to have come into existence in the first place. If God is outside of Time for example, then he still knows what we will do and choose, beginning to end. The hard part is coming to grips with the fact that some will still go to hell, yet were created anyways, however God doesn't create anything without a purpose and will get glory irrespective. We are just so self absorbed in this universe, we often forget the perspective and how small we really are - notice I said small but not irrelevant, Jesus paid an unbelievable price to give us the gift of salvation.

      @dankessel9799 2 года назад +11

I definitely recognize the "thought process" too (of the student's question). I've been there. But it is small and immature. It comes from a stance on a soapbox, if you will - in most cases trying to hide the idea that the questioner would do things differently if he were God. This notion can be brought into the light sometimes if simply asked the question, "why do you ask?" They usually can't answer, but will attempt. Then they can be asked, "are you, by asking the original question, saying that if you were God you would do it differently?". Our misunderstanding of God's sovereignty can surface in so many ways. We must always remember that God's way is the perfect way. His is always the perfect answer.

My wife and I just saw Dr. Turek two nights ago live. One thing he said that should be an encouragement to all of us who sometimes doubt is that those who claim they do not ever doubt, he would worry if they were truly saved. But, on the other hand, he said that those who DO doubt are most likely saved. Our emotions, he continued, are always going up and down every day, depending on our day. On good days, we are absolutely certain Christianity is true, on bad days, we can wonder if He exists, and if He does, where the heck is he? Can't He see I need Him now?! The Truth hasn't changed, just our emotions.

“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

I’ve been asked this question many times, and I’ve come to the conclusion that the word ‘can’t’ trips people up. I think the more simple word is chooses. God chooses to give freedom therefore he chooses not to allow illogical results which ultimately gives glory to His nature which is Just and Good. Example, if someone writes a story with an ending causing confusion going against the literary rules, no glory goes to the writer.

If you are free, you can not be forced at the same time. If you are a midget, you cannot be a giant at the same time.
God could easily alter this, and change the meaning of words.

I also love Frank’s answer at the end about free will vs predestination and how God uses both. I’d love to see him talk more about that specific topic.

I think what a lot of christians get wrong is this false thinking that believing in god automatically means worshipping god. It doesn't. Believing in god and worshipping god are two different things. It's very possible for a person to believe in god and at the same time that same person doesn't worship god.

Somehow, I don't have doubts. I always believe that everything happens for a reason. If you think in that way, then you don't have to doubt anything anymore. If I have issues to solve (whether health or financial or relationship), I always look for the learnings that I can learn from the experience. What is God trying to teach me here? It's always about the learnings.

The 'all-knowing' vs. 'all-causing' question is a big one. Though a limited analogy, as a teacher, I always saw it like this: when a test or assignment comes up, I provide as much of a foundation as I can to give students the opportunity to succeed, whether it's through work leading up to the task, written feedback, and time for meetings to build on clarity. I cannot force students to take full advantage of all I offer, and when the test comes around, I often have a good idea of who will do well and who will struggle. I don't cause students to perform below expectations (I hope not at least!), but based on a professional understanding of my students, I can still predict fairly accurately.
Like I said, this is a limited analogy that's strict to knowing vs causing. Not meant to be read with i.e. the implications of "earning" one's way to God

Having doubts or dilemmas doesn't mean we don't have faith. It just means that, the deeper we go into God's wisdom, there will be more things we will encounter that requires deeper understanding. Not all of us have the same level of understanding.
-For example, when the student mentioned the virgin Mary. This was something that I couldn't grasp until I realized that Mary being a virgin, meant being innocent and never had sex (obviously lol), which symbolizes purity. Not necessarily meaning that Mary was or was not still a virgin after Jesus's birth.
I'm sure there are other thought processes of "the virgin Mary", but this was one of my understanding hurdles since it really was never explained to me.

We come to this earth completely Ignorant, we have a LOT to learn before we leave this place, Asking questions is a Good thing. We NEED to understand. I remember as a Child, things I learned were VERY OFTEN very counter-intuitive to me. My dad was frequently exasperated when my first exposure to something often seemed Backwards to me. I wasn't alone, when I first showed my baby sister how to shoot a water pistol, she always turned it around with her Thumb on the Trigger and point it at herself while AIMING at the same target that I was. And Boy did she get mad for a long long long time when I tried to take it from her and turn it round, regardless of how she squirted herself with it. Soaking herself didn't bother her - ME telling her what to do chapped her something fierce! LOL!
But, once I worked with a thing for a while, then I could NO LONGER even imagine how my first thought of it was so totally BACKWARDS. These days, I am surprised I have that much memory of it and couldn't tell you any of the things I Once thought briefly should have been the other way around.
Oh, Wow, Just Remembered One of them - TRUE! Except for climbing into a saddle, though I'd seen enough westerns to know better.
Sometimes my dad thought I was the dumbest cluck! LOL! But after a few years, I finally began to hit my stride, and learning new things did get easier.
WHY should things be Different when Humans cannot understand at all why God thinks so many of things WE FIND SO VERY PLEASURABLE, as we stumble ignorantly upon them in This Life, are so SINFUL and HORRIBLE in HIS EYES?
Yes, ever since Adam bit that piece of Fruit, we've all come at things in life a lot too ignorantly for our own good, so often.

I think the better way to address this is by saying that the Lord puts limits on His power, meaning (like Frank said) that He will not use His power to MAKE us love Him.
Now, don't get me wrong, the Lord can (and sometimes does, think nebecaneza and pharoe) make it very hard to disobey or obey Him, respectively, but in almost all cases He will give each one of us everything we need to come to a saving faith (so we are without excuse at our judgement).
Most people know but do not want to believe and follow, because the cost of discipleship (living exclusively for the Lord before anything/one else) is more than they are willing to do. His love comes regardless, but our salvation is highly conditional!
    In Christ,
    Andrew

The definition of a circle means it's not a square, and if it was a square, you wouldn't call it a circle - coupled with the water to wine argument I think he could have said he turned water into wine and called it wine, just like he could turn a circle to a square, but won't call that square a circle - it's not a logical contradiction to turn water to wine - he can turn anything to anything else, but you have to call it what it was changed into, not what it previously was.

I totally get where the kid is coming from. If God can defy logic and perform miracles on people/nature, then why doesn't he use that power to defy logic and save his creation? If he created us, he no doubt has the ability to save us, but he WANTS us to love Him. The ultimate way we can show God our love is to trust and follow Him, something that He allows us to choose to do because of how much He loves us. What's better, a machine loving you with no free will, or a free entity who chooses to love you? He loves us enough to give us the free will to make that choice.

Regarding the Foreknowledge and Predestination, in a passing video Frank clarified it for me by saying -

While it is entirely possible for the author will anything into existence within the story, the fact that the characters can act based on their own rationality makes it good (referring to genesis 1:31). I don't really see the problem here. How is healing the sick through laying on hands logically impossible? Healing people isn't impossible, we've got medicines that do just that. If we can create a medicine that can heal an ailment, why would the Person who created and sustains everything not be able to do the same?
Compare that to a round square as Frank mentioned. That is a logical impossibility, since both squares and rounds have a very clear definition or 'nature', and those two natures are contradictory. A square is always "a plane figure with four equal straight sides and four right angles". A circle is always "a round plane figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed point (the centre)." Something can not be both a square and a circle at the same time.
Defying natural or scientific laws is not the same as a logical impossibility.

I think it’s a good question that the young man asked. I also think it’s pretty simple to answer. God already knew what the end was before the beginning even existed. And that makes sense because God does not exist within time in space. Therefore neither affects Him nor limits Him. God knows who will freely except him a and who will freely reject him. By definition God can’t force anybody to do one or the other, because he is the standard of love, and love has to be
free in order to be love.
The young man also brought up an interesting point. About whether or not all of this was God‘s plan, or from our free will. I think It is both, like Frank said You can compare this to the real world. I work in construction and I see examples of this every day. Whenever there is a job or a big project that needs to be done, the foreman will select the people that he knows That will get the job done, and Who might agree to work with him to get the job done , And formulate a plan with the people that he has with him And who are willing to do the work. And to notselect the people that he knows will be lazy, do a bad job, or who simply don’t want to work with him. Now if humans can do this, I’m pretty sure God can do it too- and better for that matter.

people like to complain about free will, but that's kind of an avoidance question. If it's true, the question should be, what must I do to be saved? Not, "well, I don't like how it's possible that many people might not choose God, so I'm going to assume that it's not true". That's not how truth works, either it's true, or it isn't.
it's like saying if you drink something with 1% cyanide, you'll die. You can complain that that's not fair, but it doesn't change the facts. Or if you're dying of cancer, and the only way out is through surgery.
So then, if it is true, that Jesus died to make a way for you, and that you can have your sins forgiven if you'll turn your life around, give your life to God, get out and repent of the sinful lifestyle, then what's stopping you from giving up your life to God, right now? Whether other people choose God or not, is up to them, but what are you going to do?

When he chooses to do evil, he does not thereby countervail the sovereign will of God but fulfills it, inasmuch as the eternal decree decided not which choice the man should make but that he should be free to make it. If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who is there to stay His hand or say, 'What doest thou?' Man’s will is free because God is sovereign. This is a great question. “If God is just, wouldn’t He do everything in his power to save everyone from eternal separation from Him?” Salvation in Christ answers this question. Hebrews 9 tells us that:
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many […].” Hebrews‬ ‭9:27-28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
What was perfectly necessary and sufficient to save was performed once! Salvation was not only an act of God’s power, but of grace, love and humility. Jesus performed our salvation without glory, and that’s what God in all of His wisdom deemed most powerful to save. The saving message was meant to be wieldable and palatable. Just as Christ the Son’s sacrifice was to save us, God our Father’s sacrifice is, has been, and will be of His freedom to willfully pursue ends - even those that would result in everyone’s salvation. Therefore, we can say that His (God our Father’s) sacrifice is in not saving.
So in this question, we also get to see that God’s righteous character is in 3 persons. God’s execution of power and will to secure a relationship with us considers God the Son and His ministry and God the Holy Spirit and His ministry. This is what was best to make sure that all aspects of salvation were delivered fully to those who would inherit it.
Also, in terms of what God the Father does in His power, all of history shows that heavenly plans are carried out behind the scenes. So if this is a question of God’s effort to save, the answer is yes. Check out this verse:
“Are not all the angels ministering spirits sent out [by God] to serve (accompany, protect) those who will inherit salvation? [Of course they are!]” Hebrews‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Many Christians likes to say to their brothers and sisters in Christ who are experiencing troublesome time that God saw and knew this problem will come to their life and had the solution to it before the problem even started. This truth has to be truth at the highest possible level as well, like before God created anything at all, when He was just planning the creation, He has to see all the problems coming on the way back then, in the beginning, before creation and He must have come to solutions to fixing of all the problems before He created anything at all.
Now endless existence of a constant torment is no solution at all, it is the most horrifying, worst, utter failure imaginable, because nothing can be worse than existing forever, without the ability to stop existing and existing forever in a constant horrifying suffering, so eternal torment is no solution, it is worst failure imaginable, therefore it cannot be reality, because if God would know that Him creating anything at all, would lead to even only one being into endless torment, Him being Love at the highest level and Him being self sufficient 100% who does not need anything at all, would never, not for one second, think to create the world at all.

Kinda bleak, but it seems like that, from the way the student goes on to frame it. Think of it this way? God wants our love and fellowship. Those can't be forced or it's not authentic. It has to be by individual choice (free will). So, even though He knows "how it will play out" with each person, He also wants to give that person free will to make their choices. His refusing to allow someone to be born because He knows in advance that they'll deny Him and refuse to love or believe in Him would be like stacking the deck in a card game. Then, He would still be fair and just, but not PERFECTLY fair and just (ultimately), which He is. God Bless!

I think he missed an opportunity to clarify logical vs illogical (using his terminology) regarding what God can do. I would've liked to see him explain to the student that making a square circle defies reality, because a square circle isn't a circle, it is in fact a square, and it can't be both things at once. God could TURN a circle into a square, but he cannot defy his nature (that nature being TRUTH and REALITY) by making something exist in the present as an UNTRUTH (making a square be a circle). Water into wine is taking one thing and making it INTO something different, but it did in fact exist as the other thing.
Another way to explain this is to say that, since God is the definition of TRUTH, he cannot by definition be UNTRUTH.
