I like the way Jerry does the things he does.
For anyone just finding their way to the Jerry Garcia Band. This show is absolutely top shelf.
I Love 💘 Jerry I Miss him
Aside from the Garcia on Broadway show, this was probably the best JGB show I went to. It was only a couple of weeks since Bill Graham had died, Blues Traveler opened, and the tickets still said "Bill Graham Presents......" on them. Thanks, Jer.
Wow, you just took me back. Friends and I were on our way from the U of Utah in Salt Lake City to see the 1991 Halloween run in Oakland.. None of us should have been taking so much time away from class but fuck it, we did! Oct 26 we were rolling across Nevada but a giant snowstorm closed I-80 to any vehicle traffic through the Sierras. We had to stay the night in a hotel in Reno. My friend Erin was from Santa Rosa where we were gonna stay a couple nights. She talked to her dad on the phone and he told her Bill Graham had died. Next morning we're on our way to Oakland. Decided to go inside the arena early and had a primo floor spot about 5 rows back from the stage, right in front of Phil. Before the shows volleyball played on the floor and on each side of the stage was a polished silver 13 point lightning bolt inside a wreath of black roses. They were like 4 feet tall. I forget if it was before the show or at "halftime" when Graham's daughter and son in law or his son and daughter (I forget who exactly they were) gave a short little speech. Opening song for the show - Sugar Mags WHAT?!?!??!! I was always a setlist geek and I think that was the first time ever (and only time) SMAG opened a show. Or first since like 77 or something. Awesomeness. So unexpected!!!! Later in the 1st Set, I swear to this day Jerry played like no one else was there, he just played for Bill and that seemed to shine especially on Althea. Omg. Just wow. 1991 I got lucky with being at the Eyes opener and the Sugar Mag opener and was that the year of the Dark Star encore? I forget. Anyway, that first night 10/27/91 was a wake. Honest to goodness it was a wake for Bill and we who got to see that show were treated to something special. ✌️
Super awesome "Don't Let Go." God bless you, Jerry.
Phenomenal thanks Barry Hughes for turning me on to this show today 6-21-21
