When I was a young man in the 80's I begged my Father for a Radio Wrist Watch after watching Knight Rider and he got me a cheap Casio one that I cherished for years until it got ruined in the wash. @@albert333pool I got one recently from Amazon. They are also available on Ebay. You have to pay tax on either Ebay or Amazon thanks to recent Congressional laws. (only if you're in the U.S., naturally) The primary difference from the 5610 is the all-metal case and DLC caseback of the 5000U. So are you saying that you got this GW-5000U for the price of a GW-M5610? If so, wow, congrats to you! It's a wonderful watch. I'm one of those fanatical g-shock collectors and I have this one as well as the GW-5000 predecessor. (and dozens of others) The only thing I like better about the earlier GW-5000 is the "EL" backlight. But, the 5000U's LED light is nice because you can set the duration of the light for up to 3 seconds. I also like the 5 World Time cities that you get with the 5000U and the ability to see the time in the stopwatch and timer modes. All in all, a great watch! Very nice review, thanks!
The base 5600e has great battery life, too. Mine has been going 7 years. I wish mine had the longer setting pusher that yours has. The short setting pusher of the original is my only gripe with my watch.
But this has full metal case & screw in case back with circle O ring that is easy to replace.. the 5600e has plastic resin case that will eventually be brittle especially the holes at the back that the screws go in it will lose thread & it has a shaped gasket not a circle O ring there is no gasket available in any watch repair for 5600-e.. for long term use & to pass on to your children it is wise to get the steel cased g-shock..
Love the review, succinct, informative yet casual, visually uncluttered. Very cool that you got a free upgrade, and this one's a perfect match with the combi bracelet. One thing that bothered me slightly was the auto-focus shifting to your hands, putting the watch out of focus.
Best watch ever! I own the same Japanese version but with the 3159 module. Need to upgrade to the new 3459 module. Thank you for this information! Great 👍🏼 video
Thanks for the review. You git a deal ! I have the exact same watch and added the Casio gen 2 combi bracelet as well. Love this watch ! It has been 4 months and the bracelet and watch show zero wear. I added the bull bars as I like the look and it adds a little crystal protection.
The GW-5000 is one of my favorite squares. The material for the bezel and strap are much more supple that the base DW-5600E. In fact, outside of my titanium, this is the only one I wear with the OEM strap. For a positive display, it still remains somewhat tactical because of the monochromatic face. It also sits rooted to my wrist without flopping around. Other squares wherever they’re too heavy or super light still sit at a weird angle. It might be because despite having an all-metal inner case, the strap fits perfectly without being too tight. Even my other Screwbacks (on nylon straps) want to sit funny. You really lucked out. The price upgrade for the premium materials is worth it!
Been wearing variants of the 5600/5000 series since it was introduced in 1983. Got my first one while stopping off on the aircraft carrier Enterprise on my way home from the gulf. Probably had a dozen since then, but never paid more than $79. May have to splurge on a U. Fun video Bradley.
Nice review - helpful and informative. Picked up the GW-5000U from a Japanese vendor and it arrived a week ago. It’s such a simple yet substantial watch.
Did you go in person or did you go somewhere online like ebay? I'm looking for one myself and Casio does not sell some models on their website and I always buy direct if possible.
Just tried the 5610u and took it straight back to the store. Why have a watch with timers and 5 alarms when only a young dog or a bat can hear the quietest of beeps. Is the 5000U any louder. The volume on my cheap W800H puts it to shame.
Yep, I’ve got the 5610U as well and am returning it, sadly. Beeps are next level to a mouse fart. No point in the alarms or timer. Love the watch otherwise. The red outline is just the right amount of standout and the case thickness is on point shorter than a regular 5600.
Love this watch, if I was buying a new work watch I'd buy this one, however when I was buying a watch I would wear literally every day for work (I work in an active environment so to speak) I decided to go with the classic yet subdued DW-5600-BB, all black basic. And it has everything I need. Alarm, stopwatch, tells the time perfectly, I have a date...and it's tough as nails. Had it for almost a year now and not a scratch on it and I've had it slammed, crushed and whatnot...still goes as if new. I've also installed bull bars on it for added protection (though it really doesn't need it) and a pet film over the glass...the g-shocks are almost if not indestructible. Plus the black variants even look classy so you can actually wear it literally anywhere except maybe some super formal occasions.
Great video. I’ve recently been looking into the Casio G-Shocks. I like the analog/digital types, but most look too big on the wrist. I really like the model you just showed. Very nostalgic! I think that’s the one I am going to go with. Thanks for the review!!!!

I have the W-218 Casio square. $16 and a perfect beater. When the battery dies in a decade or so, I might replace the whole watch. It's a good one, accurate to two seconds a month, fast.
I have the same watch it's a joy to wear especially after I bought the metal bezel and bracelet for it gives it an even more premium feel nice watch thanks for sharing
V2 looks like a children's watch bracelet. V1 brutal, powerful, perfect for G-Shock. By the way, the V1 bracelet is installed only on watches for the domestic Japanese market, model GW-M5610UBC-1JF.
This is my favorite watch & wear daily, i like the smaller size compared to larger G shock watches i own, I love the channel & reviews on pipes & other stuff
I have a model GW-M5610UBC-1JF JDM, on a composite bracelet. I think this is the best model from G-SHOCK, functional, compact, with a cool design and a brutal bracelet, adequate cost. The metal case of the GW-5000 does not cost as much as marketers ask for it. In addition, its buttons are less convenient, 5000 is heavier, which is a minus for a sports watch.
Nice watch I have the none screw down back, cast not pressed, which I am sure it’s the same movement, which has raise twist to turn back light on and UK date style option, I find the strap fine but your model will have better quality etc, The only thing that put me off was it would be thicker, but will look out for offers in the future. This is my first g shock that I can remember as I went through loads of casios in the 80’s the straps would always break so cheaper to get a new one back then.
I've been considering this exact model for a little while now. I own one G-Shock already but I bought based on looks instead of functionality, so it's the grey one with the negative display (DW-5610SU-8), but no solar charging or atomic time. To be honest it's quartz anyways so the two times a year I change it I'm only at like a minute fast and the battery lasts years anyways, but there really is something about just *never* thinking about it that seems very appealing. Plus I am curious about that softer strap.
I have, GW5000-1JF, GW5000U-1JF and GW3000M 4ER plus some Mechanical, a JLC 481mvmt bumber auto, STOWA T02 fleiger auto ETA 2824-2 top grade with Red second hand no 001. I always wear my GW5000U-1JF.
Looks great but i dont see why😮 i should buyed unless i want to show tbe case to a fish while scuba diving i got the 5610 my daily wear watch and i liked so much to take it easy only office duty the dw291 do the dirty part efficiently for me.
Thank you for posting this video. Got my notification from Casio today mentioning “back in stock” jumped on it. Should receive within one week. Can’t wait!
I remember these watches being huge. (They're not huge, it's just when I owned one, I was ~14 years old.) I recently bought two 5610U's for my neice and nephew, it was hilarious seeing how massive it looked on their wrist. I'm 39 years old, and I'm probably going to buy the japanese 5000U, the american one isn't as durable, lacks atomic, and the case is almost completely plastic.
Find it hilarious that just because they add some steel and decent rubber strap, they charge double the price from the Solar GW5610U. Like Rubber and steel means luxury, lol. Do the Resin cases, but add softer rubber while keeping the cost down and we'll all be happy.
Its the made in japan thats the big difference.. its like mizuno football boots. Made in japan is more expensive. Im not sure if the japanese are laughing at us for paying extra for the made in japan but i did pay more for a pair of made in japan mizuno boots rather than the made in indonesia version..
I have one of these on the way as a replacement for my 1998 G-Shock Raysman DW-9350MSJ. I don't like analogue watches and have an unused 41 yo Pulsar analogue/digital watch. I always set up anything digital with 24hr time.
Got the same one but with the red accents on the case and combi bracelet, also from Japan, same movement but I’m surprised mine does not have the screwdown caseback ?
The screwdown caseback is a "premium" feature on Casio squares, and like he said they are only found on this one and some Anniversary models. That's one reason the 5000U retails for $250 or more..
Thanks for watching! The screw-down case is more durable, more water resistant, gives a more substantial, premium feel to the watch, and you can still change the battery if you ever need to.
Hi there, does it use the same strap/bracelet as the GW-B5600 ? I would like to get the combi bracelet too but will like to confirm the correct one. If you can provide a link to where you got it, it is even better and much appreciated. Thank you!
Perfect size, perfect weight, perfect for every weather conditions, perfect for unexpected situations, not perfect for people with poor sight, not perfect for a dress watch, perfect for someone who wants to have accurate time without taking care of it... Great value for this price...
Thanks for watching! Any combi bracelet for a standard size square g-shock should fit. I took mine off of another watch, the GW-B5600BC that I got for a good price on ebay.
It can be tough to do. (I've done it on a few of mine) I strongly suggest looking up youtube videos on the subject where you will get some VERY useful tips. It can certainly be done, it can just be a little annoying. Make sure you have a good springbar tool.
I have a few watches one watch is worth £2k plus but I wear my g shock almost all the time I absolutely love it, can wear it with almost anything in every single environment I think it looks pretty cool as well
GW5000U is amazing but for that price it should come with STN pannel, im stick with GWM5610 but for best value gshock G5600U is the king, solar power + updated module & iconic old school design for less than $100
I got into G shock squares exactly how you did. I have a couple very cool automatics, one Aragon (which is the biggest bang for your buck, and an excellent watch maker), and one Spinnaker Bradner, which is just as great. But they can't hold a candle to my 5610. It's too perfect, it does everything perfectly, and it reminds me of my youth. The most comfortable, most wearable watch I own. If I ever lost my 5610, I'd immediately replace it. I haven't took it off in over a year, and meanwhile my beautiful automatics are sitting pretty and sad in my watch case.
Ordered mine from Amazon on Saturday 3/11/23. Received it two days later on Monday 3/13. Unfortunately, I sent it back the very next day! The watch is small and very hard to read for my older eyes, even in a windowed room during daylight. Also the watch's band was too short for my 7 1/2 wrist. Perfect for a man, woman or child with small wrists and young eyes.
I noticed the UKCA stamping on the back of this watch, yet on the website all the pictures do not show that UKCA stamping. What is the deal with that? diff model?
UKCA was a government idea post Brexit as the equivalent to CE but then they realised it was too costly etc and it's the same as CE anyway so they pretty much abandoned UKCA but you'll still see some products with it on (for UK market presumably). It won't be a different model. Another 'Brexit benefit' eh!?😂
😎Do you know the best place to buy a combi bracelet for the GW-5000u? All the ones I've seen say they are for the 5610 or 5600, but none say the 5000u. I just want to make sure I'm getting the right one. Thanks! ✌

Looks great but i dont see why😮 i should buyed unless i want to show tbe case to a fish while scuba diving i got the 5610 my daily wear watch and i liked so much to take it easy only office duty the dw291 do the dirty part efficiently for me.
great video !!!love my G shocks love that you found them again ...I hope you pick up a ga2100 ...perfect size like yours but with hands so nice
Indeed, all over the best choice. My favourite one, absolutely!
Thank you for posting this video. Got my notification from Casio today mentioning “back in stock” jumped on it. Should receive within one week. Can’t wait!
I'm sure you'll love it!
@@stuffandthingsyoutube got it yesterday, it's $300 well spent. Got mine in a nice tin w cool looking outer box
I bought my GW-5000U-1JF from Chino Japan for $ 245 and love it. Sakura is another good place to buy from...
I always set up anything digital with 24hr time.
they should have used electroluminescence .... why the backlight? maybe a tiny bit more red, but great watch otherwise
Great review! Super cool watch!
Άνθρωπος----Human
Great work👍
subbed
Got the same one but with the red accents on the case and combi bracelet, also from Japan, same movement but I’m surprised mine does not have the screwdown caseback ?
The screwdown caseback is a "premium" feature on Casio squares, and like he said they are only found on this one and some Anniversary models. That's one reason the 5000U retails for $250 or more..
why is the casebook an upgrade? maybe I dont get it but doesn't it just make it so you can't replace the battery yourself? what's the upside?
Thanks for watching! The screw-down case is more durable, more water resistant, gives a more substantial, premium feel to the watch, and you can still change the battery if you ever need to.
@@stuffandthingsyoutube okay nice that makes sense thanks!
Hi Great review. Please can you share the link to the bracelet?
There are so many sellers via amazon that makes ordering from the right one exhausting. Which sellers have you'll used for this watch??
I’m a die hard mechanical watch disciple and the only watch I will wear is the G-Shock 5610u and my second favorite is the metal 5000..
Where I can buy the braslet?
Hi there, does it use the same strap/bracelet as the GW-B5600 ?
I would like to get the combi bracelet too but will like to confirm the correct one.
If you can provide a link to where you got it, it is even better and much appreciated. Thank you!
You are right. That is the perfect watch.
With this and my Black Bay 54 I'm set with a vintage re-issue theme! 😁
what is the part number for the combi bracelet you've purchased?
Perfect size, perfect weight, perfect for every weather conditions, perfect for unexpected situations, not perfect for people with poor sight, not perfect for a dress watch, perfect for someone who wants to have accurate time without taking care of it... Great value for this price...
Great Video. Please let me know which Combi strap fits the GW-5000U and where did you get it from and price paid. Thanks very much.
Thanks for watching! Any combi bracelet for a standard size square g-shock should fit. I took mine off of another watch, the GW-B5600BC that I got for a good price on ebay.
Lucky You to get both! The best watch there is!
How hard was it to fit the combi bracelet to the watch? I really like this combo and am thinking of doing the same thing.
It can be tough to do. (I've done it on a few of mine) I strongly suggest looking up youtube videos on the subject where you will get some VERY useful tips. It can certainly be done, it can just be a little annoying. Make sure you have a good springbar tool.
It was a bit of a pain, but with a good springbar tool (as WRjockey mentioned) and some patience, it was doable.
Is the alarm louder on the stainless steel screw on back g shocks I wonder
Can you put a link up for the bracelet. Thanks
Nice watch with great features. What depth does it manage underwater?
Looks like it says “WR 20BAR” on the face, so 200 meters!
Yep! 200 meters!
ive been eyeing this particular watch for awhile.. always wanted a square in my collection and i think this one is IT :)
Would you consider selling the resin strap you don’t use? I need a replacement for my 5600.
Just ordered a GW-5000U-1JF... looking forward to my Omega Seamaster!
That's some stroke of luck there. :)
Just ordered one! Where did you buy the bracelet?
I took it off of another watch. I haven't seen them for sale on their own.
I love mechanical watches but this one it’s my first digital watch for sure😉
How does it compare with the GWB5600 ?
I find the gwb5600 a better module imo ... Bluetooth time syncing is more reliable than the multiband 6 . Also it's about half the price of the 5000u.
Where do I find the combi bracelet?
I have a few watches one watch is worth £2k plus but I wear my g shock almost all the time I absolutely love it, can wear it with almost anything in every single environment I think it looks pretty cool as well
Thanks for sharing!
Would definitely buy this if it was same size as 5610 but it’s too big as is.
The only difference in size between this and the 5610 is in the fact that it's a bit thicker. It has the exact same footprint though.
GW5000U is amazing but for that price it should come with STN pannel, im stick with GWM5610
but for best value gshock G5600U is the king, solar power + updated module & iconic old school design for less than $100
I got into G shock squares exactly how you did.
I haven't worn my mechanical watch since I got it either!
It's really beautiful on that combi bracelet. Where did you order the bracelet from?
I took it off of another watch.
Is there a place to sell old G shocks ?
Whats the diffrence between this and the gw b5600
Ordered mine from Amazon on Saturday 3/11/23. Received it two days later on Monday 3/13. Unfortunately, I sent it back the very next day! The watch is small and very hard to read for my older eyes, even in a windowed room during daylight. Also the watch's band was too short for my 7 1/2 wrist. Perfect for a man, woman or child with small wrists and young eyes.
Nice acquisition story! Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! ✌
If it fits the 5610, it should fit the 5000u! Mine was from a GW-B5600BC.
I love mechanical watches digital watches and smart watches but if I could only have one watch it would be my G-Shock 5610u I love it
The buckle says casio japan on the back is mine fake?
What does the JF mean
What a great 2 watch collection you have. All the watch you need.
Love mine and always love wearing it.
Just saw you have a tattoo with the word άνθρωπος which means person. This is a Greek word. Are you a Greek? Greetings from a Greek in Dortmund Germany.👍🏻
Is the GW5000 alarm louder than the GWM5610?
My understanding is that they use the same module, so it should be the same alarm.
How about the light?
This watch comes with such a nice band. I don’t understand why anybody would want to put one of those hard combi bracelets on it.
I work construction. Those rubber bands get really destroyed, really quickly!
Yours is pimped out on a combi bracelet 💯
Hello, will the 5600 combi bracelet fit this model? Thanks
Yes. Both versions should be compatible.
Pls share the link where you got this watch from
It was on Amazon. I don't think the particular seller I purchased it from has any more in stock though.
