    Hey bro, let me give you a tip. I really like your channel as you know and your restorations. So here's the thing. When repairing plastics, don't use glue. Instead use /plastic welding compound/. It's a solvent. It dissolves the plastic a little making it into a kind of jelly, and after a short while it hardens again. It also contains other materials that help it penetrate the plastic's surface etc. Every plastic (abs, styrene, pom, ...) has a different welding compound, so check for compatibility. The plastic you were gluing is abs, almost exclusively used in computers. Keyboards sometimes use PBT for the key caps. Figures are often made of styrene. Transparent plastics are often acrylic. Plastic welder gives a much better, stronger, and better looking joint than super glue. Thanks for the video! Have fun!

      Thanks for tips. I know that this is fully repairlable with some "pastes". It is quite expensive and I have no experience with this. Need to study.

    • @cheater00
      @cheater00 3 года назад +2

      @@RETROHardware don't use paste. That usually has a filler of some sort and is a glue, not a welder. Plastic welder (welding compound) uses the plastic itself to become one again with the other plastic. It's like repairing a broken chocolate bar: you can glue it together, or you can melt the chocolate where the pieces meet, and once it solidifies it's one whole part again, the crystalline structure extends from one side to the other. With glue, the cryatalline structure stops on one side, then there is a layer of glue, then the crystalline structure resumes on the other side - worse. Search for "bloq plastic welding compound" on amazon UK, I used that one for many things and it works wonders. But keep the bottle in a jar, like an asparagus jar.

I used to run an ATI HD2600XT AGP on it but the games that ran good on it did not use the second processor and the ones that did use it didn't run too good since they expected a much newer CPU.

    • @Lady_Zenith
      @Lady_Zenith 3 года назад +4

      It would not run any better on competing Geforce products. 1280x1024 all maxed in 32-bits is a lot to ask for in this generation. In 16-bit it would be way smoother. Allmost everyone played in 16-bit cause if you can afford it and you had the monitor, pushing resolution is better choice, and then you arrive at the "quality" of the 16-bit rendering where 3DFX was better. The 5500 was also partially CPU limited, 1Ghz Coppermine is not enough to completely feed it in all situations.
      That being Said, production wise it was still big bulky power hungry card. technology-vise Geforce 2 was generation ahead, and sop it was in manufacturing process. VSA100 was more of an Geforce256 competitor, but so many delays caused it was in the end fighting mostly against Geforce2.
      That was me talking about Voodoo5-5500 versus Geforce 2 GTS off course. If we talk about Voodoo4 vs Geforce2 MX (128-bit MX, not the 64-bit crap ones), then GF2MX wins. Its slightly faster, has more modern tech and was slightly cheaper. That is where the fight was decided, at the mainstream, and that's where Voodoo4 failed.

    • @warrax111
      @warrax111 3 года назад +1

      @@Lady_Zenith well, you cannot compete without T&L with T&L cards, voodoo5 would fall behind Geforce 2 GTS and Ultra, even in 16 bit. Problem was, programers was lazy to optimalize all games to crappy Glide, which was good decision.

    • @warrax111

      @@Lady_Zenith dude, voodoo4 was slower than voodoo3 3000. The only advantage was more memory and 32-bit rendering, at which it was very slow. Unfortunately I don't have any Voodoo cards; so I'm running my rig with a GeForce 3 (Non-Ti).

      Could be a contact issue with the slot. Which could be a motherboard problem. It could also be a issue with the soldering on the graphics chip. @Lady_Zenith 3 года назад +2

      It was not buggy, it ran pretty well. It was also the first chipset to support FSB133 and AGP4x. The issue was RDRAM was super expensive so OEMs pushed intel to make conversion chip that would allow I820 to work with SDram instead. This chip was buggy and it also made the whole thing slow, slower than the old 440BX. But I820 working with native RDRAM is pleasure. I840 is the same as 820 it just has 2 memory channels. PIII cannot take advantage of that bandwidth, it was there mostly for capacity reasons for server purposes.

Voodoo 4 is a Voodoo 3 3000/3500 with 32bit but doesn't have enough power for games of their era and lost compatibilities due to old drivers incompatibility. Voodoo 5 almost the same. The only reason to buy one is nostalgia or if you want to play Glide games at 1600x1200 with AA with high details (Unreal 1 is a clear example). Anyway if I were you I would use Windows 98SE instead of Windows XP. 3DFX cards are more realable with it.

      Also 10x more voodoo4 cards would be sold, so it would be great retro card today, cheaper and better. So sad, they screwed it, voodoo4 was biggest dissapointment from 3dfx. With 180nm, they would clock it much higher.

    Should use the v5/ v4 on a first gen pentium 4 with a x2/x4 AGP. Or IF you can find one a Athlon XP on a VIA333 board with 4x AGP. I have run my v5 on a athlon xp 2800 and holy jesus was it fast as hell, running UT99 at 140fps 1024 x 768. I do have a video on the V3 3500 running on the athlon xp 2800, 1024 x 768, ruclips.net/video/TOlY1WAfIIE/видео.html

      the motherboard supports AGP 2x and 4x, so 1.5v and 3.3v mode. It has universal AGP slot.
      Although, the reason why it runs in AGP 2x mode is, because voodoo5 works in AGP 2x mode, because it has 2 chips. Voodoo4 should work in AGP 4x mode though, but not all cards, there are AGP 2x only, and also AGP 2x/4x versions, as far as I know.
      there is a way how to run voodoo5 in AGP 4x mode

      Obviosly, cards have notches on AGP connector for 1.5v signaling, so they have to work in AGP 4x slot.

    Voodoo4 was terrible as hell. Would be nice to see geforce 256 ddr and geforce 2 gts, how much they demolished 3dfx
