    I enjoyed so much with my last AGP card and that was ATI Radeon HD 3850 from Sapphire. I even finish Crysis 2 with very playable 30-40 fps at 1280 x 720 on it. Before it i had HD 2600 XT and X1650 Pro before her. Also many, many more ATI cards because in my country nVidia was and still is very expensive.

    GPUZ is sometimes reading the ram bandwidth as double of what it actually is, like on the 6600GT's. It should be 14.4gb/s

      I also notice a couple of those 7800GS boards should really be GT boards. They have the same spec as the PCIE 7800GT. It is curious that Gainward would market them like that. The other 7800GS and the BFG verient were all 16 shader units and not 20. Though I think the 20 shader AGP units have fewer ROP's and vertex units? I don't really remember.

      @@wishusknight3009 had a Leadtek Winfast factory overclocked 7800 GTX 512mb with twin fans. It was top of the range & Very expensive new according to my mate who I bought it from (in around 2007), I think.
      The fastest AGP card I’ve owned is a 6600GT.
      Do you recall the ‘bad’ ti4600 cards by Gainwood in around 2004/5 I think? Quite possibly before this time as I had a ti4200 AGP card @ 300/600 iirc ?
      I could be mistaken but that Gigabyte card looks identical to the 6600GT I had!!

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 3 года назад

      @@benrogersdevon The GF4 series TI chips were sold as chip and ram together from nvidia. So for a company to supply a ti4200 with 300mhz capable ram they would need to ditch the ram that came in the bundle.
      nVidia did that to 'dis-incentivize' companies from just taking binned 4200's and matching them with faster ram to cannibalize 4600 sales.
      The 4200's were usually supplied with 500mhz (effective) ram for 64mb versions and 444mhz (?!) ram for 128mb versions. And the ram was often of very low binning. I recall a few companies selling overclocked 4200's at the same price as 4400's though.. lol.
      The 4200 128mb I had was never able to see its ram hit 500mhz no matter how hard i tried.. And the chip seemed to putter out around 270ish. My brothers 64mb 4200 was an OEM card and could hit 4400 clocks pretty easily. (275/550) It might have been able to do a bit more but unsure.

    • @benrogersdevon
      @benrogersdevon 3 года назад

      @@wishusknight3009 I can’t remember if my ti4200 was a 64mb or 128mb example. I remember clocking it to 300/600 though with riva tuner.

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 3 года назад

      @@benrogersdevon I have no doubt that some could and more. The 64 mb ones were better overclockers as well because of the higher quality ram. I just had a bad example and was rather disappointed with it. I previously had a gForce2 Pro, so the 4200 wasn't quite as big of an upgrade as it was hyped to be. At least I felt that way. It got replaced with a 9700 Pro All-in-wonder almost as soon as it was available and I ran that one for a good 3 years or more.
      My brother kept running his 4200 for some time though. He didn't replace it until the 9800Pro's were in their twilight and in the discount bin. It seems like that little bit of extra clock made all the difference. His 4200 also upgraded a TnT2, so it was a huge gain for him. lol

    That Gainward 7800 GS 512 vs Leadtek 7800 GS 256 comparison in Doom 3 is unfair, since the Gainward is in reality a 7900GS with its 20 pixel pipes. Those 4 pipes give more boost than the doubled VRAM.

      I've got some cool cards. Two Voodoo IIs that work, two that don't work. A working Voodoo3 3000 AGP, a Voodoo 5 5500 that doesn't work. A Riva TNT, a Geforce 2 Ti Engineering Sample (!), I have the same 6600GT from 8:06. A Radeon 9250 PCI (excellent card BTW, even though it's only PCI). But yeah I have a bunch of boring old PCIe cards. Actually I have a pair of 8800 GTS 512MBs that I want to SLI in a Socket 775 build some time (for Crysis!). I currently want to get a Voodoo1 build working, can't decide whether to go for Pentium II or Pentium MMX though. And I fancy a Riva TNT2 Ultra! Current build is SLI 1070s. Had XFire R9 280X's before that and XFire 5850s before that. Look after these things guys! They don't make them any more and one day they will be rare. :)

    I'm amazed at how much mileage i got out of my 6600GT back in the day. It also was more a case where anything from ATI was basically unusable because the drivers were that bad.
    I still pine for an agp geforce 7950gt, if not at least a 7900 non-gs. I just can't trust anything from ATI/AMD past x1k because the drivers are a three ring circus act to get working. Even now with the last possible drivers that are supposed to have all the possible bug fixes.

      I just finished my dream 2006 build with dual 7950 gx2 cards in quad SLI, I love those cards. I used to have an AGP 7800, but the damn PCIe-to-AGP bridge chip failed on me. Ever since then I've stuck with native AGP only, none of that converter nonsense (none of the cards made after the 6000 series were real AGP, and in fact, a lot of the 6000 series itself used the bridge chip)

      Most of late motherboards with AGP slot had socket 478 and with some Pentium 4, already 7600GT was bottlenecked, so making even better AGP GPUs makes no sense. MBs with sc 775 (or AM2) for dual cores had already PCI-e always. Combination of sc 775 and AGP slot is rare and weird.

      It was rare but such MBs existed. I think it existed only because of people with late AGP GPU didn't have money for whole new PC and they wanted use at least GPU, but it was very stupid for the future bying such motherboard. But late AGP card were very bottlenecked with socket 478 so with some C2D, you still could play modern games with AGP until maybe 2009.

    Just for reference, those Asrock motherboards are trash for those CPUs.
    I had 5 of them different models none of them made those CPUs perform well enough compared to other brands/chipsets.
    Once i installed an Asus PQ5(P45) with the same CPU(Intel C2Q Q6700) i kid you not i had +20 FPS on Witcher 3, then added an Asus sound card to take the load from the CPU because the CPU was getting 100% loaded so heavily in that game back in 2015 and i got a massive +15 FPS.
    Before all this, i have that CPU with an Asrock 4CoreDual-Sata2 but it has an Nvidia 650i chipset, and with integrated sound card i was getting around 16 FPS, so after the motherboard and sound card upgrade i went to 50ish FPS that is absolutely nuts!
    GPU at the time was a GTX 660.
    I am not even gonna mention the fact that, that asus mobo, before i killed it because i am a moron, it allowed me to get a 24/7 3.785GHz on that CPU which made the system so much more snappier and even Witcher got 8 more FPS.
    I could reproduce the results any time and i tried to confirm them and it was happening all the time.

Why do not you test for exampte - CoD4 mw or even better CoD MW2, Dead Space, Tomb Raider 2013, Stalker (either cop or soc) on DYNAMIC lighting renderer, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Amnesia the dark descent, Alice madness returns, or lets say - Condemned (uses fear engine buy far much more details on maps). Those are only small part of the games a usualy play to test MY AGP cards on my favourite P4 641)
    Yes, i never use anisotrophy, eny smoothing, or even trilinear filtering, some games i play in 640 x 480 but i always have all the shaders ON, textures set to HIGH and at least Medium shadows on. This gives the prety sharp picture and high performance, even on 6600 128mb for most of the games.

    You could only overclock that CPU to 3,3 GHz? I guess the motherboard is pretty bad.
    Asus Commando, BIOSTAR TPower I45, or some DFI boards could take this CPU to 4,0 GHz I think.

    nvidia 7950 gt agp really was the last AGP card for me, HD 3850 AGP was just silly as it would choke on complex rendering scenes because of the AGP socket.
