@@suunbee Thats so cool!! There are plenty of great songs to use for PMVs! The question is, what do you want your story to be about? That’s going to influence your song choice a lot! But if you’re just looking for some great music to inspire you, I’d check out artists like Glass Animals, Modest Mouse, Jack Stauber, The Crane Wives, or The Oh Hellos! Those are some of my favorite bands/musicians that tend to tell stories through their songs :)

Hey, the best way to develop drawing skills is to work hard at practicing! maybe you could work on a warriors story and use it as an opportunity to improve? I know that working on these videos have *absolutely* helped me improved my art!

Same as OP but it’s motivation for me mostly (and learning to animate and storyboard with only having FlipaClip and procreate to work with on my iPad; aka something that doesn’t give me back pain as much with hunching over and drawing for hours on end.. as my permanent license doesn’t work for the mobile ver of CSP ;-;)
Its funny hearing someone speak of their characters they love dearly and their process. It really is hard for me to keep motivation so hearing you speak and how you kept your motivation truly makes me smile

Edit: I just had a horrible idea. What if when Mudpaw gets his full name, he's named after his mentor because his clanmates looked up to Wrentail like you said and they thought he would have too? Just a thought I had.

I can't get over the fact that we create lore for our OCS the exact same way. I haven't heard anyone talk about creating ocs in that way, and I think its awesome we do the same thing! I've recently gotten into art and trying to draw some of my ocs, (Trying to learn how to draw digitally/animate in the future if I can figure out procreate haha) But I've been writing lore for OCS for years, and 3 years ago, I started with warrior cats. I'd listen (and still listen) to music probably 15 times, closing my eyes and trying to envision a story. Your art is incredible and is such an inspiration for me to start drawing. Thank you, and I hope you have a nice day! :D (Also, let me just add I did indeed have this on while drawing!!)

First off, this is almost exactly how i pictured you to sound! Second, im just realizing how similar Mudpaw and my oc Orius are! They both are mistreated by someone that they shouldnt be mistreated by (in Orius’s case, its his dad and brother) and they both end up killing the person who really mistreats them! (Except in Orius’s case, he kills his brother, not his dad who mistreated him a lot more. Also i swear im not stealing your ideas, i came up with this before i even found out about you haha!) Orius was originally also going to be a villain who killed his brother and took over his pack, but when i was coming up with that idea, Orius wasn’t the main character. This video was really cool! I love learning about how people come up with ideas for storylines and videos! Also, i can totally relate to the part where you said you were playing Johnny on repeat! I do the same thing haha!

Aah, this video made me smile and laugh so hard because of how relatable this is! The whole process of finding a song and fitting it to your angsty characters is something that I do all the time. I also love your mindset and how you decided to start with one small step and not put too much weight on the project as a whole. I also really enjoy your style and the stories you create, so I can't wait to see more of your inspirations in the future! ^-^
You should do more videos like this! I love hearing your process and as someone looking to make animatics as well your thoughts are quite helpful.
Also! I’ve personally never heard of anyone else who plans things by listening to the song over and over and it comes vividly in their head, it’s the exact same way I do things I’m so happy to hear you do it too!

you script the exact way I do lmao! Using the lyrics rather than just multiple in a part pfft. Although, I cannot animate and the style I draw doesn't do my OCs justice so I just script and color bases to simplify my OCs lol.
It def makes scripting more difficult, but it's a much bigger seratonin dose when you find that song where every. Single. Lyric. Just

Finally got to watch this!! Very enjoyable, talking with the music in the background seems like it would have been hard. Also this video helped me realise how much I love the way you draw paws.
Riley, I know a few songs that might work for any sequels to this:
Coyotes (Modest Mouse) - (hehe the usual deal, about same story as The Garden, you may know this song.)
Sinners (Lauren Aquilina) - (same stuff, again.)
Human (dodie) - for this one you could do a version taking place after the death of Mudpaw's mentor, and give him an ally/friend. "I'll be you best friend" (a lyric in the song, matches with this)
Lilo (Lauren Aquilina) - For this one, it could take place after the death of Redtail, when Mudpaw is going through regret, grief, and other stuff (aka the 'oh sh*t I really did that' kinda stuff (excuse my language.)) lyrics from the song that match: "So push me on a lilo out to sea~ Watch me float away, never to be seen... Again..." (skip a bit)" And look at all the chaos you've escaped... "
Skeleton Song (Kate Nash) - (Lol same stuff)
I'll keep looking for more and add onto this comment if I can find more. You do not have to use any/all of these, animate your characters for the songs only if you wish!

Are you asking how to find songs you want to use for animation? Or are you asking about how to download them?
For selecting a song, I tend to use music that I already enjoy listening to!
For downloading music, that’s going to depend on what programs you use, and what device you’re using! Google will be your friend there. Just make sure you do it in a safe, legal way! There are some websites with free to download, copyright-free music that you can use in videos if you want :)

I use the "clean sketch" brush, from the Jingsketch Basics brush set! The basic set is free to download on their website :)

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you develop your drawing style? It’s very cool and I’d love to know about the process!
It’s not a very helpful answer but honestly it just took time and a lot of drawing 😅 I tried experimenting with a lot of different ways of drawing and basically just incorporate what I liked best into the style! That being said, I try not to set my style in stone? It’s still changing day by day, and sometimes I’ll do pieces that are a major departure from my usual work, just to keep things interesting haha

Also yeah, I’m a mostly a visual storyteller as well, it’s why some backstories for my ocs can slightly from what song I choose, and am very picky about what songs I choose, but also help put together stories from different songs, it helps me create things
Also what do you use to storyboard/animate/whatever on iPad? I’m currently stuck with procreate and FlipaClip… and procreate I can’t hear the audio frame by frame which usually helps me a lot, and FlipaClip isn’t the best in general.. unfortunately. (Motivation is also another Achilles heel for me, as well as some other stuff like angles and etc etc)
Also on procreate what aspect ratio do you use for art? )like the one in the video :0, I’ve been experimenting with different sizes and whatnot, but I mostly settle on 2000 x 2000 ish but that limits my frames for creating ;v;)
I put together all my videos in iMovie! It's not great for frame by frame, since that's done in procreate and you can't listen to the audio in there, but it's pretty good for simple keyframes!
On Procreate, I use the canvas size 1920 x 1080 for videos! It's the size needed for a standard 1080p video on RUclips :)

I’ve always really wanted to draw- I mean, like, well. I love writing stories, and I wish I had the artistic talent to actually bring them to life- to make them be visual, if that makes any sense. I try, but I usually don’t do very well, and I easily get.. what’s the word for it? Not confident. Confident in reverse. Confidence go bye bye. Is there any way you know to help me keep being motivated? Or any tips on drawing?

Getting discouraged when you first start out with art is a very common experience! I would go so far as to say it's an essential step in the learning process. You know enough about art to know what good art LOOKS like, but you don't know enough yet to know how to MAKE art that looks good to you! That disconnect is what usually gets people to get the "confidence go bye bye" lol. The answer to getting past that is to really just... push through, I guess! You're gonna start off making things that don't meet your own standards, but that's normal! It's ok to suck at something when you're learning :) lord knows I was terrible when I first started out drawing haha
For advice on learning how to draw, there's lots of way to practice! Drawing things from real life, whether that be something physically in front of you or just a photograph, is generally thought of to be the best way to practice. The idea is, once you know the "rules" for drawing something, you can then learn how to break those rules in a stylized way! But honestly, lots of people learn to draw specific things by copying other people's artstyles and using that as practice. I learned kinda backwards, where I started drawing by copying other people's art that I saw online and incorporating interesting things from other people's styles into my own, but when I got older I had to go back and unlearn a lot of bad habits in order to learn how to draw things from life!
For something simple to start with, try practicing drawing simple volumes; cubes, spheres, pyramids, rectangular boxes, etc! If you can get good at drawing simple shapes, you'll find that most things in life are just. Lots of simple shapes stacked together to make a more complicated shape!
I hope this is actually helpful, I know it's not great to hear "yeah you just gotta. keep going." But that's genuinely how I get through things when I'm learning to draw something new! I hope you can stay motivated!! If nothing else, just know that I believe in you!!

@@RileyG Thank you! This helps a lot. I never really thought of the simple shape.. things. Yes. I worded that perfectly. Now my overthinking brain is going into overdrive. Anyways, sometimes I just look at other peoples drawings (my friend’s, animators, RUclipsrs that like drawing and are incredibly good at it, cavemen) and I get discouraged. But I already went over that. I get this big idea in my head, and then I try it out and I’m like oooo no. I do like trying to copy others for.. learning. I forgot the word for it. Obviously I won’t say ‘Oh! This is mine! I totally didn’t copy it! I just suddenly got extremely good at art!’ I just say, ‘Yeah, I copied it from my friend, but I added my own unique flare to it, and I’m proud of it.’ That’s why I’m going to Mudpaw and Whitepaw, making them everrrrr so slightly different so that you can barely (Barly? Barlie? Barely? Barbie?) tell the difference, and claim I only copied a tiny bit, because.. yes. No reason. Just.. I can think of any more witty things to say, just rest assured I won’t do that.
(One day I’m going to make this an animation. ‘Riley-I-think-I-spelt-that-right is scrolling through.. an app. I don’t know. And suddenly.. she sees that weird fan who tries to be funny and is weirdly obsessed with Whitepaw and ooo Whiteblaze after nose? Or Whitestorm? Or Whitepool? Or- Riley got distracted. She focuses her eyes and her heart shaped mouth and tongue like on the crap-I-forgot-what-its-called-its-the-little-picture-thing because that very obviously accurate and GASP its.. Dirtandwaterpaw! By that fan! And uh, then it fades to black. Oh! One more thing! I probably shouldn’t have included this in the I-try-to-make-people-laugh-part but how do you even make the animations in the first place? Where is that art thing you used to draw Mudpaw because it’s easier drawing virtually then in real life? I know you said iMovie, but for- wait I just realized. Never mind the first question. I’ve only ever used the trailers so that’s what I was thinking of. So, bye, I guess! I’ll go ahead and give you another essay when I have another simple question!)

Since procreate doesn’t take audio for animations, what do you use to animate your PMVs? Or do you use procreate- if so how?
I use Procreate for drawing/animating, and then I put everything together with the audio in iMovie!

one question, how long did it take you to draw cats like that? I love your style and im a beginner artist, i really want to draw cats but when it doesn't turn out the way i like, i get angry an stop drawing for days, sometimes months. Any tips or advice would be helpful lol
Aaa I definitely understand the feeling!! One of the great hurdles of starting out in art is this stage of being like “I know enough to know what good art looks like, but I don’t know enough yet HOW to make that good art” and it can be really discouraging!! But it IS only a stage of the learning process! The fact that you get frustrated with your current abilities only shows just how much you have already learned :)
Some advice for learning to draw cats specifically, I would recommend tracing some images of real cats. Normally people might tell you not to trace things for art, and that’s usually a good rule to follow, but for LEARNING to draw (not for artwork you decide to post/upload), I’m all for tracing! It helps you figure out the proportions and shapes that make up a cat, and from there you can start trying to free-hand drawing! Once you trace enough leg-shapes, you start to realize “ok so front legs are just a squished oval with a tube here...” haha
I also recommend copying the things you like that other artists do! This doesn’t mean outright copying some else’s style, but if you decide you really like how this person draws ears, or that person draws eyes, or some other person draws paws, try doing it yourself!
Beginning drawing is one of the hardest parts of the learning process, but it’s really cool that you want to keep working at it and improving!! Once you get over this first obstacle, I’m sure you’ll do amazing!! I hope this helps :)

I really want to get back into drawing and actually get to a point where I genuinely like my work, especially with cats. I also want to actually find my own style. I’ve been struggling with both for as long as I can remember… Do you have any insight on this?

I think one of the biggest hurdles in art is getting to that point where you like your own work! It’s hard, especially in the beginning when you’re still figuring things out, because you’ve gotten to the point where you *know* what good art looks like, but not to the point where you can *produce* it yet. That disconnect can be really discouraging!! I think it’s one of the biggest reasons people quit trying to make art. BUT it’s just a stage of the learning process!!
It’s usually not the answer people want to hear, but practicing is your best friend when it comes to improvement! Try drawing things from real life/photographs, try breaking down images into base shapes, heck, try copying other artists who’s styles you enjoy (not to post/upload places, just for practice)! Keep at it, and I’m sure you’ll improve with time :)
As for figuring out your own style, I would say to try out lots of different techniques! As you work, you’ll find things you like better than others, and from there, an art style begins to develop naturally! I would say to not worry too much about making a recognizable art style, because art styles are always changing anyway! My own style is constantly changing in little ways, and it’s great to leave yourself the mental room to change things up when you want :)

All in all the video was amazing and I love it, but one thing, you never explained when Wrentail saves Mudpaw and his pupils finally appeared. WHAT WERE YOU TRYING TO SHOW IN THAT SCENE AHHHHHH, I genuinely thought that you would elaborate more on that but you never did and I just want to know about that, so if you do end up seeing this comment pleeeeeease answer it, thank you :)
Hi! I mostly chose to leave that part unexplained so that viewers could pick up the detail by themselves and interpret it how they liked :)
but if you gotta know, my general thought behind it was that, through all the videos at that point, Wrentail was seen by Mudpaw as an unreachable figure, less of a *person* and more of a force to be avoided and feared. By saving his life, it was enough for Mudpaw to see him as something more than a bogeyman; Mudpaw is able to acknowledge, on some subconscious level, that Wrentail is a person too and not just a walking nightmare. In the end, it doesn’t change the ingrained instincts and knee-jerk reaction Mudpaw has toward Wrentail, and he still kicks him off the edge, but it’s the sort of thing he thinks back on and feels conflicted about after the fact.

What programs do you use? Im atempting to make an atamatic of my oc Noah but can't fugire out how
I work using my iPad, I use the app Procreate to do all my drawing, and I use the app CapCut to edit! CapCut is free to download, but Procreate costs about $10 USD. I think it’s definitely worth the price though!!
If those don’t work for you, you could try searching up good drawing/editing applications for whatever device you plan to use!
