Hi! I'm An Scott. I'm a happily retired 70 year old woman with my “golden years” on the horizon, living the “good life”, whatever that is on any given day, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella. Now that my husband Jeff finally retired from his long career as an award winning Architect, we are finally moving from SW Florida, in the good old USA to Nice, France to live out our “golden years” on the sunny Mediterranean coast of southern France, in Nice France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country is no small “project”. Through my videos, we’ve been taking you through the process, sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs. This is probably going to be our last video, here in the USA, sharing our preparation. From this point forward, we’ll be sharing our new life in Nice, France, as we navigate the process of settling in and adjusting to the French way of doing things.

Thank you for your inspiring vidéo! It is such a pleasure to see both of you happy and ready for your new marvelous aventure. I would suggest taking a little plastic médication dispenser to inject some water in Bella's mouth when in Frankfurt. By my expérience, my cat refused to drink but looked dehydrated. So à little water in her mouth would be helpful. I would'nt give her the second dose if she is calm and quiet. Waiting for your new vidéo! Bonne chance!

Thanks, for the idea. I do have a little collapsible bowl for her that we'll bring in our carryon and use and she'll have a little tiny cup or bowl (have to see what I find), in her carrier with a tiny bit of water if she's "awake". All the best to you!

Too late now but there are services where you can send your photos to be digitized and either put on a CD or stored in the cloud.

Yes, I've used those services for our old Super 8 movies from when I was a child I didn't want to spend the money to do 100's of photos. It's just as easy for me to scan them when time allows.

    🍎 An and Jeff,
Beautiful, fabulous, spectacular day in our part of the world! Hope it is for you all as well.
Fabulous news about Monaco that's very close to where you guys live. It's only 11 miles from Nice. It's the second smallest independent country in the world. Population is a little over 36,000 and over 12,000 are millionaires. Are you planning on going there in the Summertime to show us one of the most beautiful, fabulous, hidden little paradise country in world? Better yet, I'm sure you can find the best champagne in the world there known to man and woman if you prefer! Waiting to see these millionaires on your video of Monaco.
    Ciao! 🌴

Hello, thanks for your note. Yes, we have been to Monaco. We took the train to Monaco back in December during Christmas season.Check out my past videos from maybe a month or 2 ago to see our visit to Monte Carlo and the Casino. I am sure we will go back to Monaco again sometime. We have some friends coming from the US, next month, who want us to take them to the Casino, if time allows. Aside from that , for the moment we don't have it on our radar. We are very anchored to Nice for the time being, dealing with furniture deliveries, waiting for Internet installation and our boxes from the USA to arrive so we can fully unpack and get settled-- and adjusting to our new life here . We have other family and friends visiting this summer so I don't know if we'll be doing much traveling and sightseeing outside of Nice, till closer to fall. We hope to be back online this week, so look for a new vlog next Sunday...if all goes well.

Yes, I'm sure the reality of not having a car will set in with us in due time. The good news is we've heard we can rent one for around 9 Euros a day at our nearby Carrefour. So, there's that. It's too bad it is so expensive to ship a car and then just to find cheap parking in Nice...ha ha ha! Unheard of. Good luck to you.

So excited for both of you! The first time I flew with my dog she was perfectly behaved and calm. You may be pleasantly surprised. I was concerned at first but she had become accustomed to riding in her carrier while in my car so that may have helped. She has since flown five times and is always comfortable and sound asleep. However those have been relatively short flights between Sarasota and Boston. Hope Bella enjoys her first flight!!

Thank you Ann and Jeff , Always for clearing details. It is very helpful.
I was wondering, Did you know how safe it is for that company to scan your mails , Which are credit cards& banking&perhaps social security letters?
Ann since you have been in France many times, Have you been in city of Reim?
If you have been there, What do you think about US citizens retire in that town?
    Wish you smooth move.
    New exciting beginning 🎉
Thank you again to put all these details in the middle of your move!
You are reliable , Which is great quality.
You treat your site like a job.
    I really appreciate it.

The company we are using has been in business for more than 10 years, their staff all has to go through background checks and is monitored 24/7 on CCTV and most important, it was recommended by other expats who have posted on various forums. They also have a high score with "Trustpilot". They have excellent reviews. 99.9% of our mail is junk mail that won't be going to them. The post office doesn't forward junk mail. We have changed our mailing address on our bank account and credit cards. They don't automatically scan anything unless we ask them to open and scan it. However, we don't receive any bank statements or credit card statements in the mail.
And all Social Security correspondence in the US is online for me. They send me a text or email telling me there is a message for me on their site and I log in to read it. So nothing importannt ever comes in the mail for us. Everything is online. We are simply doing this for the odd pieces of hard mail, like a replacement credit card, something that we forgot to change the mailing address on that we don't get often (not even sure what that would be), a card or letter from friends or family or maybe a check Jeff forgot was coming from a client. So, we have 0 concerns about using this company. Regarding Reims, I have never been there. Jeff has been there many years ago for a day trip with an ex. I don't think he was there long enough to decide if it would be a good place to retire. I think you have to make a list of what your priorities are in a town you want to move to? What MUST exist in that town? What do you need? What's your budget? And then go spend a few vacations there for a week or more and research the costs of living there and see if it has everything you need. For us, I can say right away it was too far from a warm climate. We also wanted to be close to a major airport and a train station that can take us to Italy and the rest of Europe. I guess Paris' airports are somewhat close. We wanted a walkable town where we no longer need a car, lots of expats, lots of doctors, good hospitals. We didn't consider Reims. It's too far from a beach. But make your own wish list, then do the research. Good luck to you!

We went with a fairly basic plan through Mondassur that met the requirements for our long stay Visas and covered hospitalization emergencies up to 100,000 Euros, in addition to repatriation. It doesn't cover any other day to day medical expenses or preexisting conditions. It is called " Europe Access Extension".

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears ty 4 taking the time to share the info, An! Insurance is so frustrating ! So many have said it's so cheap, but we are only getting expensive quotes. Spent 2 weeks in Ireland scouting, sadly it's a no go. The roads are a deal breaker and the weather affected us more than we thought. Landed in Paris last night, today it took 1 1/2 hours to drive out of the Paris area with motorcycles speeding past between cars and one of them getting into an accident. Crazy! Now I know why people say to take the train. Last time I went by bus. Really miss having our house, sold it in 2 showings and out in 30 days. 1st time since the 90s we haven't had a house. Feeling really out of sorts. How's your 1st week in your apt? How's Bella adapting? Our 2 Malteses are doing well, but really high maintenance. They have EU passports now. Delta was much better than Air France. Never again on AF. Hugs, Wendy

I enjoy following your adventure. I would like to suggest you watch your videos to see how repetitious your presentation is. You sa the same thing several times. Also, the intro section is too long. Don’t mean to criticize, but to make you aware f it.

    • @postcardsfromourgoldenyears
      @postcardsfromourgoldenyears  2 месяца назад +2

We appreciate your thoughts. However, I have to admit it's "all about us" . We don't just do the videos for you all to watch. We do them for us, as a video memory of our journey. And we're "old". LOL. Sometimes, I guess we say the same things a couple of times to emphasize them. That's what us older people do. If you're not old yet, be advised, one day someone may tell you you repeat yourself. How will you feel? And, we like the intro. The great thing about watching a RUclips video is that you can fast forward through any part you don't want to watch. So feel free to fast forward right to the "good stuff". You won't insult us. We appreciate that you like the info we share. That's the most important part. All the best to you... See you in our next video!

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears I was 80 last October,so I think I am older than you. I spent my college years in Europe and you have given me a yearning to return. For now I am doing it vicariously through you. But I tell my husband if he dies first, I am moving to Nice. As for your presentation, you are both charming and thorough, whereas I like “getting to the point”. Enjoy your adventure! And being old is a privilege and enjoying it in good health is not granted everyone.
