The fact that he is making his own birthday cake is amazing. I love when he questions the tablespoon to teaspoons conversion. “How sure are you? There’s a lot at stake here!” I absolutely love that. My husband has a hand full of meals that he knows how to do and I LOVE LOVE LOVE when he decides he wants to cook dinner. They are far in between but highly appreciated. He knows how to do one dessert and makes it maybe once a year. Which is completely okay. I’m not a huge fan of sweets. He has the sweet tooth in this house. It’s not only nice to not have to do it but having him just in the kitchen with me is nice. I too do all the cooking and preserving so I know how lonely it gets being alone in the kitchen for what seems like forever. It’s nice seeing Josh in there with you! ❤

Becky, a suggestion for when you are adding cream and milk, if you are using the same measuring cup/glass, add the cream first, then pour the milk into the container that you had measured the cream in, because the milk will help get the rest of the cream out of the container you had used.
Love to hear Josh refer to his ingredients as materials! 😂 it’s great that he is enjoying learning to bake, and being experimental with different fats, etc.. That’s truly the way to becoming a great baker. Happy birthday, Josh!

Here I am 53 and the past 2 years I’ve been doing fluid art. It relaxes me and brings so much joy to my heart to see other’s enjoy it as well. It’s kinda the same with cooking/baking. Hi Becky! I started cooking again about 6 months ago after 30+ years! 😂 I'm 62, & come from a long line of fabulous southern cooks (all who have passed). I am having so much fun in the kitchen for the 1st time ever. I have a lot kitchen knowledge & am more intuitive than I realized. You are probably the 1st person I began watching at the beginning of my new journey. I love your videos!! Hi Becky everything looked amazing. You remind me of myself, I'm 70 and one of the joys in my life other than my children was making large meals and feeding everyone. I have a large Italian/French family and I love to cook and bake since 10 yrs old. My children are now living far from me so I don't have the large meals.that often but oh what a joy it was. Just a tip. Mix the cheese in with the sauce before adding to pasta. It will just help protect the pasta from being smashed❤
The next time you have a very large dinner, you could move all the furniture in the lounge into a back room so you can have all the tables in the same room like a mini restaurant. Its nicer when you can all be together and be able to chat together. You could also put all the tables together around the room and have a ctr table or two to hold all the food❤❤❤
We always do all the food and stay together but i never dress up the table like you do. Your tables are always so pretty❤

Seeing you using your precut onions made me smile. About a month ago, I found myself with a bunch of onions I didn't really need, so I pulled a Becky and prepped, diced and froze them. This morning I used them to save some time and effort. Thanks for the efficiency examples!

I wouldn't be able to sleep about a month before because of worrying about it and the stress on the day would be too much to cope with! I am late to the birthday party so belated Happy Birthday to Josh. I just wanted to comment that everything turned out beautifully and is that not the best? To see your vision come alive and you get to share that with your family and closest friends. That is what life is about. Love, celebration and a great meal! Becky I have to tell you, a few months ago you posted the triple layer chocolate and cheesecake cake and I was so mesmerized by it I just had to give it a try! Well I ended up making that cake as my wedding cake back in January! All of our guests loved it! It was so delicious and so fun to make! We also had a very tight budget so all of the DIY projects were done including making our own food/cake and it was so fun!

I'm so excited to see you guys using your Bosch. My mom used her Bosch all my life when I was a kid, and now I use mine all the time, too. It's the best for making bread, cookies, whipped cream, shredding meat, everything! I have a Kitchen Aid that was a gift, but it's in storage because the Bosch has so much more power and is so versatile and I never make a mess with flour flying everywhere. Very fun to see you guys use it!
Becky, like you, I used to host parties up to 50 people, I loved it. Age has limited my ability to do very much hosting now. Thank you for sharing your festivities with us….. love it! Happy birthday Josh!

I lived in a small SoCal house, for Thanksgiving we took the furniture out of our living room after our time chatting and moved in two long tables and everyone helped set up. Really good memories.

Becky, we like using lemon sugar too. I use it for cakes, scones, and cookies. I just fill a large deli container to within 1 1/2” of the top, and add the zest of 4 lemons to it, and mix thoroughly. The longer it sets, the more like lemon it tastes.

Looks awesome! My mom always said to season the ricotta! We always added salt pepper garlic & onion powder some nutmeg sugar and and egg. That way that layer was also seasoned and with the egg would swell up a little to fill layer or manicotti noodle. Just a suggestion. This is how I was taught! We learn from seeing others do. There are so many ways to have a wonderful outcome! Find what works for you. I enjoy seeing simpler ways. They all have their different tastes. I say try them all!!! Find what works best for you!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSH WITH, you did a great job! With my Bosch, I just dump and mix ingredients, no need to dirty extra bowls.
When I make bread, the Bosch cleans the sides, so after shaping loafs, I just throw in cookie ingredients in and mix up. ( Also I can make 1 loaf bread, a few buns, pizza crust, and a few Cinnamon Rolls out of same recipe)Since I have the oven heated, I bake the cookies after the bread items.. Easy clean up Takes no time to have a weeks baking done in 1 1/2 hr.

When creaming butter and sugar, we were taught to get a little bit and put it in a glass of water. When its creamed right... it floats.. If it sinks...keep beating.. Love this video and love the fact that Josh is wanting to make his own cake or even just cook in the kitchen.. way to go!! @@joandavis8818 Yes, the sugar would be largely dissolved by that stage, allowing the mixture to become lighter as the 'creaming' takes effect. This creaming process not only alters the beginning weight ratio but also traps a little air throughout the mix which together results in the mixture floating and not sinking.
